The play is, like what others have said, it's your expertise and providing consulting services to others struggling with cloud spend.

They do this because no one wants to work at their startup. How do you see this being solved then?
If anything, a sweaty startup offering just the install for a nominal fee would do really well here.
Not everything has to be a gimmick, right?
Then, cracked software becomes free advertising!
I think there are parts of the process that people enjoy over others and that's based on many factors, personality, company culture, managers, coworkers, process and tooling, etc.
You don't have to enjoy every aspect of it. Just like enjoying cooking, and not enjoying doing the dishes.
The important part is being professional, doing what's asked, not being negative about it, and look for opportunities to improve that part of it.
If I worked there, I would have more issue with a place charging $7 for a drink and not paying it's employees fairly.
I think there are a few things at okay here. First, probably not super accurate reporting on all levels; infections, deaths, etc. Second, there may be something where impoverished nations suffer less because their immunity maybe is stronger. I need to do some digging to see if there's some correlation at the very least.
Some are more difficult to figure out than others:
- Cost per tenant/customer
- Cost by environment
- Cost of/by change (i.e., introducing changes to app or architecture)
- Projecting costs into the future
- Margins, once factoring in other OpEx costs (huge implications given fast rising cloud costs and companies market cap being reduced as a result of increased costs)
- Pro forma capitalization can also be useful, if not required by some finance teams.
I could go on about this for days...
