Visiting the different countries would be a nice payoff for enduring all that communal time. But after a while, I'd expect a lot of the experience to become really tiresome.
As someone who has live/worked on a compound, and visited other compounds, I can say that there is a lot of atypical psychology in how people interact when they know everyone they meet is in passing.
