dlkmp··on DeaDBeeF – A modular audio player for Unix-like systems
My story is basically the same (except iTunes was mpd in my case) but I'm seriously considering moving back because of the music quality. I don't consider myself anything close to "audiophile" but the dynamic range of streamed music (at least for spotify) makes for a terrible experience when played at rather high volume over speakers. The difference to CD-ripped mp3 is immense.

Messing with the few options offered by the spotify client didn't help either. I'm mostly looking for a solution to use my music libary with a streaming service as drop-in for missing tracks.

dlkmp··on Backblaze Privacy Update: Third-Party Tracking
Even the title suggests that it's just a heads up on some minor functionality. Not really what I would expect from a company that puts "Trusted Storage Cloud" in their <h1> and encountered an incident that completely eradicates that trust.
dlkmp··on Don't End the Week with Nothing (2014)
If just was as easy. Although I agree with your sentiment.
dlkmp··on In Praise of the Unambiguous Click Menu
Atlassian software is definitely the champion in creating unexpected behavior within their apps. I'm using Tridactyl to use vim motions in my browser and they've made it entirely impossible for me to search within a page as they capture '/' to open the issue search.
dlkmp··on FairEmail: Open-source, privacy friendly email app for Android
I'm using the FDroid version of K9. What do you like from FairEmail over K9?
dlkmp··on Bit (1.0) – a modern Git CLI in Go
The git CLI definitely leaves room for improvement and thus for projects such as this one but I personally feel that the git plugin for your preferred shell and a custom set of git aliases adjusted to your personal workflow will get you most of the benefits an improved git CLI can provide. This also yields a better understanding of git itself which will be beneficial if you have to use git in an environment without any extras.
dlkmp··on A solo journey to $100k in sales
Might be just me but once I saw that "x tips to get better" ebook, the offer lost credibility in my eyes. It just feels more believable to me that there might be some guy who knows so much about colors and the corresponding theory that he can actually can come up with a theme worth 100 bucks than that there is a guy who can do this _and_ give me tips on random semi-related topics.
dlkmp··on Zsh Tricks to Blow Your Mind
I am a happy Fish user, too. The first downside that comes to my head is that if you want to share a script you wrote that you have to translate it to bash first. Much less of an issue if you're using zsh.
dlkmp··on Do Adults Really Not Remember School Sucked?
The first point is almost exactly stated by the author. For the second point, he does not question why schools exists, he merely claims them to be inefficient at this target. Which is supported by his personal anecdotes and he does not offer an alternative, so always an easy claim to be made.
dlkmp··on Preparing to Issue 200M Certificates in 24 Hours
It's TB though, per unit.
dlkmp··on Show HN: Espanso: detect a typed keyword and replace it while you're typing
I use QMK macros/ tap dances for the same thing as a 100% platfrom independent solution (albeit being also a 100% hardware dependent solution).
dlkmp··on Generative Bad Handwriting
We use the exact same term in German. There seem to be some universal attributes to the handwriting of medical professionals.
dlkmp··on Ask HN: Your Favourite HN Comment?
Oracle code base and test cycle description: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18442941

I've referred to this comment a couple of times in discussions with people I've worked with. It is a great example for many problems of old code bases.

dlkmp··on Getting rid of the Google cookie consent popup
Even if you do, it will kill navigation flyouts and similar if done naively.
dlkmp··on Nessie – Lightweight Web Browser
They do, taken from the above github page:

"As you may have heard Microsoft Edge no longer uses Chakra. Microsoft will continue to provide security updates for Chakracore 1.11 until 9th March 2021 but do not intend to support it after that."

dlkmp··on First Impressions of GitHub Codespaces
From the blog post I understand that my vscode configuration is somehow stored within my browser, not connected to my github account. Is it also stored per project or globally?

Because either choice brings its own problems. I want the vim plugin to behave the same on all instances but language-specific plugins or similar only make sense in the context of a specific project. How does this work currently?

dlkmp··on Show HN: Vim-Like Layer for Xorg and Wayland
For people based in Europe who might be interested in an Ergodox or similar, I can recommend a visit to falba.tech.

I've ordered two Redox from them by now (for work & home) and am very satisfied with the product so far.

dlkmp··on Show HN: Vim-Like Layer for Xorg and Wayland
I've done a similar thing at the hardware level using a QMK layer. The main benefit for me is being able to use VIM movement keys in every text input.

As I'm using a dual boot setup, it's also pretty handy to have the mapping directly embedded in the keyboard firmware.

dlkmp··on An update on our security incident
Did they tweet directly from the admin tools? My impression was that they used the admin tools to reset the password and then take over the account, ultimately tweeting like any normal user would do.
dlkmp··on Can an extreme low carb diet be used as medicine?
I have been on keto for three months now, for me it's mostly about the mental clarity, free from the ups and downs you experience when eating a lunch high in carbs.
dlkmp··on Windows Explorer Through the Years
You can also type "wt" and have Windows Terminal open your default shell (presuming Windows Terminal is installed). This makes it really convenient to access WSL wherever you need it.
dlkmp··on X410 – X Server for Windows 10
I don't fully understand what this is capable of. Can I use this to run a window manager like xmonad? If so, does it work only for linux gui apps run through WSL or also for windows programs?

I really love what WSL has been doing so far and this would really take it to the next level. I'd actually consider switching my private computer to Windows.

dlkmp··on Decades-Old Computer Science Conjecture Solved in Two Pages
It's interesting to read and extremely accessible to the point that nothing can be learned about the actual problem and its solution.
dlkmp··on Raspberry Pi 4
I'm not so sure about this on a large scale but my first thought after reading this was to replae my parents' PC with a Pi 4.
