dkroy··on How to name your startup: A 9 month first-hand journey through rebranding
I understand that it may be difficult over the phone, but that would be just about the only confusing moment. Although considering they found your phone number, they already know your name. If they find it on the internet your SEO rating is helped by the name a little. If you are talking to them in person, they will have your card in hand or some visual. Also, if they have confusion with the name, you have an excuse to hand it to them. I no issues with this name.
dkroy··on The $500 Startup
That sounds like a good deal for both parties. I wasn't sure if you guys would be taking equity in the businesses for the $500, which is why I asked. Thanks for clearing that up.
dkroy··on The $500 Startup
What do you get in return for all of this? As I read it the person who signs up gets to work with you two, plus they get the $500 in credit at tweaky.com, but I do not see what you guys are getting out of this relationship. I am not trying to troll, I am just curious.
dkroy··on Design Freebies
Really, really nice. Thanks!
dkroy··on Bootup.js - cache and load static files from local storage
Yeah, it could have been the best project ever, but the license is the first thing I look at. So I saw that then closed the page.
dkroy··on My entire entrepreneurship story in 10 minutes
I didn't know they sold Kiko on Ebay. That is crazy, I didn't realize people were in the market for that type of item on there.
dkroy··on Fog Creek is about to go down
I have been following the podcasts, and when you guys mentioned this failover for the relocation of your servers the impending hurricane didn't even come to mind. That is some amazing timing, it is a good thing you had to change data centers over there in NY. Also, it is a good thing you didn't move your servers over on a bed dolly.
dkroy··on The 5$ SaaS
Or even BitBucket.
dkroy··on Automated home brewing system
Yeah, it seems to me it would be much easier just to buy one. He should start selling pre-assembled kits.
dkroy··on 'AOL squatter' takes wraps off new startup, Claco
So if I illegally speed does that make me a criminal. Would you classify me by that one action, or the many other ones I do each day? By your definition a great number of the people that live on this earth would be classified as criminals.
dkroy··on 'AOL squatter' takes wraps off new startup, Claco
Ever since that first story showed up on HN, I have loved reading about this guy. When a guy with ambition has a work ethic like this, it is great to see them do well.
dkroy··on New Apple maps app under fire from users
As a developer this kind of update makes me happy since it might result in Apple giving up some of its mobile phone market share to Microsoft and Google. I would much rather develop in Java or C#, instead either struggle through Objective C or use a third party developer tool to avoid doing so. Although, as an iPhone user it makes me sad. The UX with the iPhone has been amazing. I chose to use this phone even though I dislike all that is apple, just because to me when it came to my user experience it was leaps and bounds ahead of any other. Now that one of my most used apps has been pushed out temporarily it kind of makes me nervous. I have even heard who have applied iOS6, have lost all of their photos, luckily since I rely on a few jailbroken apps had not updated.
dkroy··on Show HN: My first try at a WordPress plugin
Yeah if you could get the supported browsers for IE back to IE7, I could see that improving the usefulness of your plugin.
dkroy··on Guy Points a Gun at Google Streetview Car
Haha, you ruined the article for me. I wonder if the guy driving the car even noticed, or was otherwise distracted by counting the minutes till he could get done with that area.
dkroy··on HTML5 webcam to canvas stream (Demo + annotated code)
Really cool, keep up the good work. It works in Google Chrome 21.0.1180.89, on Windows 7 just fine.
dkroy··on New Metasploit 0-day exploit for IE 7, 8 & 9 on Windows XP, Vista, and 7
Resistance is futile. It is time to assimilate, download chrome.
dkroy··on The and-httpd server has a $2,000 "security guarantee"
How did this get to the front page when the last update to the source was 6 years ago?
dkroy··on GoDaddy Apology or Advertising Ploy?
The main reason this angers me is because it is no different than the spam mail I get from them every week. It is just a thinly veiled attempt to make more sales by making people think they could never get this discount otherwise. This is no real apology, a real apology would be reimbursement for past trouble, not necessary, but it would at least feel sincere.
dkroy··on Realtime Web Messaging over Animated Gifs
That is extremely clever, this just goes to show that if you know how something works inside and out you can come up with clever hacks.
dkroy··on Anonymous Donor Pays for College of Every Student in Kalamazoo
I am very jealous of these students, I entered my post college life in the hole like many other students. Luckily, the tech world is in a completely different state than the rest of the job world when it comes to looking for a place to practice your profession.
dkroy··on Fresco - A Beautiful Responsive Lightbox
Or you could download http://www.jacklmoore.com/colorbox and set the height and width to a percentage. That has always worked for me. You can choose to put pretty much anything in there, not to mention that it is licensed under the MIT License.

Still great work though, you got my vote, hope you sell a bunch of licenses!

dkroy··on Lessons for uncultured web developers
I have never heard of the 360 Secure Browser before, but I have found the link for it http://se.360.cn/. I was going to download it to see what it was all about.
dkroy··on Show HN: We got tired of asking 'What browser are you using?' and created this
I actually prefer the one you linked, over this new one. I like the layout, and sharing options better.
dkroy··on Russia in color, a century ago
Honestly, even those in the link are impressive to me. Just think of where technology was at that point in time, and what ingenuity it took to create pictures of this quality.
dkroy··on Show HN: Tampon - an open source Buffer app
Thanks for the link, I haven't really looked into it too much, I appreciate you sharing your findings.
dkroy··on Show HN: Tampon - an open source Buffer app
What is sad is the fact that this is a pretty useful app, yet most of the discussion is about the name. I would like to see more discussion about the app itself, but that could be just me.
dkroy··on "100% of our production system is now running Go"
Alright, thanks for the clarification on "free", I realized that is what you might have meant after posting.

That last bit about your logs is surprising, thanks for that bit of info. I may need to go do the same. Either way I use a storage wrapper so I am accommodating both types of users.

dkroy··on Show HN: Most Wikipedia articles lead to the same loop
Are there any major articles that don't loop?
dkroy··on FB new low (18.23), down 52% from 38 IPO price
You are right, I guess I was embellishing a little. Though it is quite a drop.
dkroy··on FB new low (18.23), down 52% from 38 IPO price
At what price is everyone else going to be tempted into buying some shares?
