dkarbayev··on Street by Street, Amsterdam Is Cutting Cars Out of the Picture
As someone who’s interested in living in Amsterdam, I wonder what are options to commute other than by walking, cycling or taking a public transport? As far as I know, electric scooters are illegal in the Netherlands. I fancy motorcycles but I’m not sure if they’ll be banned right after cars (at least those that use ICE).
dkarbayev··on Exotic Physics Phenomenon Involving Time Reversal Observed for First Time
If the time does not exist, such measure as speed wouldn’t make any sense, would it?
dkarbayev··on Primitive Technology: Adobe wall (dry stacked) [video]
Well, somehow aboriginal people have survived without sealing up in their RVs. Also, as far as I know most of the Australian wildlife won’t attack humans unless feel threatened.
dkarbayev··on MacBook Pro Keyboard Drives Me Crazy
Huh, left Cmd button on my MBP 2018 has the same issue. Also double t’s. Also sometimes not working left Shift unless you press it harder. Also partially not working Touch Bar (about an inch of it has turned black and doesn’t display anything).
dkarbayev··on Adults learn language to fluency nearly as well as children: study
Does anybody have a link to the quiz?
dkarbayev··on Up to one million species are on the verge of extinction, U.N. panel says
One thing that I fail to wrap my mind around: aren’t all those corporations executives, politicians, and poachers living on the same planet Earth as all of us? Don’t they ever think that they’re actually destroying our planet and there’s no other place to live? I can imagine that they don’t believe pro-climate change people, but they could simply hire an independent group of researchers, don’t they? And I mean actually independent researchers, not those who will produce any outcome you demand from them.

dkarbayev··on I’m 14, and I quit social media after discovering what was posted about me
Feels so fake, to be honest. I don’t know, may be she surely is that gifted or developed, but internet made me skeptical and doubtful about everything.
dkarbayev··on McClatchy upgrades CEO’s housing stipend to $35K a month amid buyouts
$2.04M
dkarbayev··on Notion – All-in-one workspace for notes, tasks, wikis, and databases
Well, then we should create open-source analog of notion. I actually was itching wondering what could I create in OSS realm. Probably will have a look at this task :)
dkarbayev··on Windows Sandbox
This. I cannot use docker on my gaming rig to use it as dev machine sometimes because I need VirtualBox on it.
dkarbayev··on Inventor May Have Cured Motion Sickness Without Drugs
Exactly opposite in my case: if I try to play HL1, I’ll probably throw up in 5-10 minutes, but playing games on source engine causes no issues.
dkarbayev··on Extending optionals in Swift
Your approach seems to be a completely wrong use of optionals (have you been writing in Java or any other language with implicit nullability?) since you’re giving up type-safety of Swift. Do you use implicitly unwrapped optionals for delegates too?
dkarbayev··on Show HN: TabNine, an autocompleter for all languages
I just installed it in Sublime Text 3, TabNine seems to expand the first autocompletion only if the character to the left of cursor is not a whitespace, i.e. if I'm typing "let v = |" (where | is a cursor) and TabNine shows me a list of autocompletions, I press Tab key and then \t is inputted instead of first suggestion.
dkarbayev··on Google's interview system: it's not about solving the problem
I went through (and failed one part out of 3) onsite interview at Booking and afterwards they provided me a nice feedback with topics that I should strengthen. I totally agreed with the feedback as I felt I’m failing questions on those topics during the interview. Oh, and the recruiter even suggested to reapply when I strengthen those weak skills.
dkarbayev··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2018)
Do you consider hiring international candidates?
dkarbayev··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
The worst part of my rejections is that I cannot even pass recruiters - apparently I cannot sell myself good enough despite that I’m somewhat confident that I’ll do good at technical interviews. Looks like a common problem to introverts.
dkarbayev··on JavaScript Pattern Matching Proposal
Wow, importing the whole lodash to use just one function? There’s es6 way of getting an array with a range of numbers:

    [...Array(100).keys()].map(v=>v+1)
A little bit longer but no dependencies.
dkarbayev··on Marrying Vega and Zen: The AMD Ryzen 5 2400G Review
But that’s not a desktop CPU. I would gladly buy it if it were.
