djvdq··on GPT-5.5 hallucinates 3x more than MIT-licensed GLM-5.2
I'd say that as OpenAI employee he's kinda biased on the topic
djvdq··on Show HN: StartupWiki – A Free Alternative to Crunchbase
I see quite outdated data. Anthropic listed with valuation 18B and latest round at 4b? Just to compare, their real latest round was 65b with valuation 965b.

Maybe on their pricing page?

djvdq··on Notes from the Mistral AI Now Summit
It's yet another time when EU is killing our own possibilities to build real competition to US or Chinese tech.

And yet another time they will be thinking aloud in few year "what happened that we are fully dependent on USA?"

djvdq··on Notes from the Mistral AI Now Summit
Also, new Medium 3.5 is far more expensive than previous Mistral models, and much more expensive than e.g. Deepseek
djvdq··on Germany news: Childfree adults to pay more for elder care
People who don't ride trains also pay taxes for rail.

People who are not flying are also financing airports from taxes.

This is why butthurt "childless pay taxes for schools but not using them" is super stupid

djvdq··on Skip the Tips: A game to select "No Tip" but dark patterns try to stop you
> Did you ever work a job or were friends with people who did where tipping is a big part of the income?

In the EU people are paid fair salaries for their work, they don't have to beg for money from clients

Then you are assuming it wrong.

I just don't like AI generated stuff, that's it

djvdq··on Anthropic made a mistake in cutting off third-party clients
This sounds like way too much for me.

I wonder when they will add another level and talk to LLM how to talk to another LLM how to talk to another LLM

djvdq··on Show HN: Ferrite – Markdown editor in Rust with native Mermaid diagram rendering
I missed this disclaimer about it being 100% AI-generated.

In one second I went from "looks cool" to "I don't want to touch it"

I fully agree with you.

I love the idea of open source, but we shouldn't say that something is bad just because it's closed source.

djvdq··on GPT-5.2-Codex
So you can, but don't want to.
djvdq··on How I block all online ads
You can just use Tailscale or similar service and not fight with setup of Wireguard. It's as simple as installing the app on devices and starting it
djvdq··on PS5 now costs less than 64GB of DDR5 memory. RAM jumps to $600 due to shortage
I wanted to build a gaming PC around summer, to be able play with my son, but I postponed it for no real reason. I built this PC a 2 weeks ago, so instead of paying 250 pln (~$70 usd) for 32 GB RAM, I paid 899 pln (~$250). Now, exactly the same RAM costs 1099 pln (~$300).
djvdq··on Next month, saved passwords will no longer be in Microsoft’s Authenticator app
I don't have this problem. I'm using passkey probably on only 1 website (github) but it's working without any issues on all my devices. Maybe it's a password manager issue? I'm a bitwarden user
djvdq··on Lessons from Building a Translator App That Beats Google Translate and DeepL
As always.

- I built a new super-app!

- You built it, or is it just another GPT wrapper?

- ... another wrapper

djvdq··on Lessons from Building a Translator App That Beats Google Translate and DeepL
It's a bad idea. It makes a lot of mistakes and might totally change the meaning of some sentences.
djvdq··on WriteFreely: An open source platform for building a writing space on the web
VPS I'm using (1GB RAM/10GB disk) cost me 75 PLN a year, which is something around $19.
djvdq··on Banach–Tarski Paradox
I don't know if this will explain your questions, but years ago I watched this video from Vsauce about this very topic, and IIRC it was explained quite nicely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s86-Z-CbaHA
djvdq··on Timeline of the xz open source attack
Nothing will really change, sadly. Remember log4j? There were also a lot of talking why people working on FOSS should be paid. And after one month almost no one remembered these voices exept for small minority of people.
djvdq··on It's time to stop using SMS (2021)
Signal doesn't have also too many users.
djvdq··on Ask HN: What Are You Learning?
Tbh I don't have any specific path how to do it right now as I started doing this just recently. Currently it's something like: "oh, I don't remember how to do this, I'll check it on wikipedia/yt/<some random page found in google>". But this way I can't relearn things that I simply forgot that it exist.

Thanks for the link!

djvdq··on Ask HN: What Are You Learning?
Basic math. I'm amazed how little I remember 11 years after finishing high school.

I also want to learn some frontend.

I started learning Rust some time ago.

I really need to remind me a lot of basic IT topics.

The problem is how much I'd really learn.

djvdq··on Gemini AI
> targeting the American tech companies specifically, without explicitly naming them in the law

No, it's targeting all big tech companies, not only American.

You can stop this pathetic lament that the evil EU is attacking innocent American corporations. It's typical american ignorance.

djvdq··on Show HN: Beeper Mini – iMessage client for Android
Ok, I get it.

It's what EU mandated and from March '24 all major chat apps have to be able to communicate with each other.

djvdq··on Firefox on the brink?
US gov't supporting monopoly instead of fighting it? I'm not surprised.
djvdq··on Show HN: Beeper Mini – iMessage client for Android
> A universal chat application would be amazing

You mean like WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and dozens of different chat apps available for both Android and iOS?

djvdq··on The Seamless Communication models
I love when people use this pathetic extreme examples, when they don't have any meaningul arguments.
djvdq··on Show HN: Trains.fyi – a live map of passenger trains in the US and Canada
> In the UK and Europe

UK is part of Europe. It's like writing "In California and the USA", or "In Mexico and North America".

djvdq··on Whisky: Wine supercharged with the power of Apple's game porting toolkit
I tried one really old game, that you could run on cheapest Windows PC without any problems. On my M1 Pro I had about 6 FPS.
