dishsoap··on macOS becomes iOS: Safari video controls
Seems to be an insurmountable task for anyone apart from engineers at apple, let alone mice
dishsoap··on Yt-dlp: Upcoming new requirements for YouTube downloads
Have they not done this for years and years already?
dishsoap··on Apple A19 SoC die shot
Well I see the 'die shot,' but not the 'analysis'
dishsoap··on Apple: SSH and FileVault
In the past it used to work the way the parent comment is describing. The confusion is understandable. Apple basically got rid of macos and replaced most of it with things from ios in 2020, a lot changed.
dishsoap··on Show HN: The text disappears when you screenshot it

dishsoap··on I designed my own fast game streaming video codec – PyroWave
10ms is quite long in this context.
dishsoap··on Performance and telemetry analysis of Trae IDE, ByteDance's VSCode fork
or it wouldn't even need to use any sort of dns. bit of a silly discussion.
dishsoap··on Modifying an HDMI dummy plug's EDID using a Raspberry Pi
True, although the i2c controller that the dimms are connected to is an entirely separate device from the i2c controller in the gpu that's connected to the display ports. As long as you know what you're doing the risk is not significant.
dishsoap··on Modifying an HDMI dummy plug's EDID using a Raspberry Pi
Fun tip: the same process works to modify the edid stored on a typical monitor or laptop screen. Sometimes you can even change various settings on the tcon by writing to other i2c addresses. You also don't need a raspberry pi, any computer works.
dishsoap··on I still like Sublime Text
Yeah this, it's annoying to find a specific open file if you have tons of windows. Absolutely love sublime text apart from that.
dishsoap··on Show HN: I made an open-source laptop from scratch
What in the world, almost half of the comments here spelled his name wrong.
dishsoap··on Apple Photos phones home on iOS 18 and macOS 15
You can't even turn on and use a new apple product unless you phone home and ask apple for permission. I'm not sure why this is newsworthy. Apple products are known to phone home more than just about anything else. It would be more surprising if apple photos didn't phone home.
dishsoap··on That's not an abstraction, that's a layer of indirection
Did you even read it?
dishsoap··on Grayjay Desktop App
This used to be true. It is, in fact, not true anymore!
dishsoap··on Canvas Fingerprinting
The thing is it's not just a few parameters. Modern browsers provide thousands.
dishsoap··on Adobe's new image rotation tool is one of the most impressive AI tools seen
Yes, and the OP did acknowledge as much.
dishsoap··on iPhone 16 Pro Storage Expansion 128GB to 1TB [video]
I wonder what the reasoning is for grinding off the old chip instead of desoldering properly? Maybe the heat would damage something?
dishsoap··on Bricked iPhone 16 Can Be Restored Wirelessly Using Another iPhone
Wow, you have completely missed the parent poster's point!

Whether or not the specific app used as an example happens to be a webapp holds no relevance to what he was saying overall.

dishsoap··on Warning: DNS encryption in Little Snitch 6.1 may occasionally fail
Can someone fill me in on this? What hoops have to be jumped through? The last time I used macs, there were no issues downloading and installing older OS versions, but I have not used them recently.
dishsoap··on PSA: Eget That Executable from GitHub
You probably already give Microsoft RCE on your computer (or Apple, or the maintainers of your linux distro, etc).
dishsoap··on The "email is authentication" pattern
TOTP is not really something that would be sent to your email. The entire point of TOTP is that you can generate the auth code yourself, from the current time and a pre-shared secret.
dishsoap··on The YouTube like button glows when you say "smash that like button" [video]
This has been happening for at least a year, probably more. I always assumed it was something the creator had to manually mark, never considered that it might be automatic.
dishsoap··on Show HN: Attaching to a virtual GPU over TCP
For anyone curious about how this actually works, it looks like a library is injected into your process to hook these functions [1] in order to forward them to the service.

>Is this some new usage of the word "chrome" that I'm not familiar with, or does it use chrome libraries?

Neither.

dishsoap··on ChatGPT Is Bullshit
This is a wonderful and very refreshing read.
dishsoap··on Apple's On-Device and Server Foundation Models
I don't see anything wrong with that at all. They've created a branding term that allows consumers to get an idea of the sort of pixel density they can expect without having to actually check, should they not want to bother.
dishsoap··on Recovery after HP tech support bricked my father's laptop
That's very surprising that the image from the firmware update alone is sufficient to boot the machine. On the overwhelming majority of laptops, the update capsules don't contain the NVRAM sections (so no set or default values for any settings) and typically this is enough to prevent the firmware from booting the machine.

It's also interesting/impressive how much work the author went through to reinvent the wheel with his own custom microcontroller setup for reading and flashing the EEPROM when there are so many cheap off the shelf solutions available (that can read and program hundreds of times faster than it sounds like his did).

dishsoap··on SPI Flash
If you didn't pay upwards of $20 per piece, they were likely fakes. I have had the same experience as all the other commenters here: Pomona clips are the only ones I've found that actually work well, while all the cheap clips are just about unusably bad.
dishsoap··on It's always TCP_NODELAY
Most games use UDP.
