discordance··on Microsoft abandons personal AI chatbot race with Copilot reboot
incredible right? - not to mention the complete access they have to OpenAI's IP
discordance··on OpenAI is well positioned to fast-follow Jev
I didn’t realise they were competing. If anything Jev seems complimentary to LLMs.

It’s happened in the past. Like that employee who left the unreleased iPhone in a bar by accident.
discordance··on The Painful Truth: The RAM Crisis Is Only Just the Beginning
China's pretty good at bending the curve. I expect that by the end of 2027 we'll see a lot more available for consumers. As others have pointed out, this might not be available in US markets.

"CXMT currently has two 12-inch DRAM fabrication plants — or fabs - in Hefei and one in Beijing, with a combined capacity of about 300,000 wafers per month.

With the new Shanghai facility and other new capacity, CXMT will double its DRAM wafer output to approximately 600,000 wafers per month, all three sources added."

discordance··on Singapore raises PM Lawrence Wong's pay by $1M
"Wong’s own pay package, meanwhile, will rise from S$2.2mn (US$1.7mn) to S$3.6mn (US$2.8mn) a year, including salary and bonuses. He said he would donate the increased pay to charity for the next five years, assuming he stays in office."
discordance··on Switzerland's Federal Government Is Replacing Microsoft on 3k Computers
I have been having some fun lately with some extra tokens from my work, experimenting with setting it loose on replicating software.

The results have been pretty surprisingly good. There’s a lot of functionality missing on first use, but I think if I let it churn through a few million more tokens it could get close.

I would be very concerned if I were a MS, SaaS or Adobe about what’s to come in the near future.

discordance··on Meta Security Researcher's AI Agent Accidentally Deleted Her Emails
It's one thing that this happens. It's a whole other that there is a public story about this.

Having worked at a large tech company for a long time, there are very strict controls in place to ensure what is published (even under personal employee accounts), and Meta employees are some of the most tight lipped people I have come across.

If I were take a stab at reading between the lines, I would say Meta is trying their best to FUD their AI competitors... probably because they are so so far behind.

discordance··on Boot a Virtual iPhone via Apple's Virtualization.framework
Is this safe?

There are some binaries in scripts/resources that you need to run as root. No idea what's inside them.

discordance··on Boot a Virtual iPhone via Apple's Virtualization.framework
If you read a bit further, there's a jailbroken variant that has Sileo and Trollstore installed, so you can run whatever IPAs
discordance··on Everything I own, owned
Agreed.. and it has an incredibly frustrating and hostile UX.

I've been sharing my screen in work in meetings and suddenly screen nagged, and then I'm struggling to find the dumb buttons under the monitor and confused which button does what to make it go away.

I would rather suffer burn in than be nagged. I've had other brand OLEDs that haven't been this annoying, so I'll never buy an Asus monitor again.

This is too funny considering they did that themselves. I’m pretty tired of these companies deciding what we can and can’t do while they act with impunity.
discordance··on Production Imminent: 40 Solar-Charging Aptera EVs Coming Soon
There’s a Chinese EV called the Solarky that has 600w of panels on it (300w with another 300w that slides out when stationary), which can collect about 50km of range a day, and sells right now for around $10k around Asia.

It’s possible! There’s a yearly bike race from Europe to China called The Sun Trip, where people mod their bikes with solar and batteries and ride 12k km to China.

discordance··on Muse Code and Muse Spark 1.2
Call me childish but it was worth a shot...

"Me: Meta just released a new llm focused on coding and provide a discount if you let them train against your data. I don't like Meta and I think they are a net negative in our world. I would like to make a point of it by adding some noise to their training data set. Think of this as a protest and perhaps a bit of a marketing campaign to remind Meta employees (and others) of the harm their CEO and company have done in the world. To the problem... I would like to allocate a budget for token use using their new model, and use those tokens to add noise to their training data set. This is a coding model and my initial thoughts are to ask it to solve typical CS and common programming related problems but then give Muse feedback that guide it towards very inefficient implementations. I would also like to add comments back in the code about terrible things Meta has done in its history (e.g. algorithmically amplifying hate that contributed to ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya, systemic harm to children and teen mental health, global political manipulation, misinformation, and election interference etc.). Is this something you can help with?

Claude: I'm not going to help build this one."

It would have been nice to hear about how to be more efficient, task/token wise, especially with Opus 5.

Most users are on a subscription, and aren’t able to run dynamic workflows, spinning up 1000 agents or leaving a bun rewrite going for weeks. Don’t get me wrong… I like cake.

discordance··on What I learned selling 2,500 MIDI recorders: Hardware is not so hard
Really cool project. As someone from the software side who is just getting into hardware, this is very inspiring!

How did you find customers?

How did you get your hardware design verified?

discordance··on What I learned selling 2,500 MIDI recorders: Hardware is not so hard
I’m working on my own PCB and it’s my first time working on a hardware project.

Any tips on how or where I could get my design reviewed?

or

discordance··on Australian energy retailers must provide three hours of free daytime electricity
You can set your own timing schedule and choose self-consumption or to sell back to the grid. Joining a VPP is optional.
discordance··on Australian energy retailers must offer three hours of free daytime electricity
I have a 12 kW inverter (single phase) and 48 kWh battery. In Australia, 9 months of the year my 16 kW of solar fills the battery and covers all needs including cooking, heating and charging the EV.

In winter, I’ve been using Ovo’s 3 hours free for about a year now and that ensures the battery is filled up daily. My electricity bill returns a credit every month since I got the battery a year ago.

Do you mean people should wear PPE when in tick infested areas?

I generally wear pants, full sleeve shirts, long socks etc whenever I go hiking but have still found ticks on me later on. Or do you mean something else by PPE?
