dirtylowprofile··on A rundown of the new Gmail
I don't know but web interfaces are not a thing to me anymore. I am using Airmail for both my personal and work email. Those new features are just meh.
dirtylowprofile··on It's time to head back to RSS?
Days ago I received an email from the makers of Airmail about their upcoming RSS Reader app called Cappuccino and invited me to their beta app. It still early but a promising app.
dirtylowprofile··on Uber Agrees on Southeast Asian Sale to Grab
I live in SEA and Grab is way more cheaper than Uber. Uber is just so damn expensive with the same service of Grab.
dirtylowprofile··on Spotify Form F-1
I quit Spotify just recently and transferred to Apple Music. Main reason is because of their new policy on Family plan. I paid for a Family plan since its inception. Recently they updated their policy where every member of the Family plan must have the same address. My brother is working in another town and that doesn't mean we're no longer fam. That is one stupid policy.
dirtylowprofile··on Migrating Slack's Desktop App to BrowserView
Wire just released Teams. I believe also all of their apps are really really native.
dirtylowprofile··on Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL announced
Android Nougat still 17.8% on the market.

I've been developing Android apps since 2011, and Android development is getting worse. The support I have to deal with goes back to Android 4.4 which is like 4-5 years ago. And the phones in the market here in Asia are still mostly on 6.0. I am no longer getting excited for Android releases anymore.

dirtylowprofile··on Spotify preps to go public with 60M subscribers
I love Spotify but their Mac app is so slow and won't load anymore.
dirtylowprofile··on Redesigning GitLab's navigation
They need more programmers because until now they still experience down times, a lot!
dirtylowprofile··on HN is my new Facebook
I just hope HN will have an official app in the near future.
dirtylowprofile··on Another Ransomware Outbreak Is Going Global
What company in the PH is this?
dirtylowprofile··on Ask HN: What Podcasts are you listening right now and why?
Damn! Thanks for the suggestions! Right now I'm listening to Masters of Scale for starters.
dirtylowprofile··on Uber Founder Travis Kalanick Resigns as C.E.O.
Here in Asia, Uber pricing is too much and our most popular rival is Grab. Now that Jack Ma is planning on investing.

dirtylowprofile··on Who is hiring remote workers?
Are the links provided in the comments applicable to other countries? I am in Asia and just wondering if you are willing to hire developers on the other side of the globe.
dirtylowprofile··on Ending support for Android Market on Android 2.1 and lower
Please include Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean.
dirtylowprofile··on Introducing Highlights
I don't care about this really. All I want is just a fluid, fast desktop app that won't make my MBP overheat. Is that too much to ask? =(
dirtylowprofile··on Essential Raises $300M
Is it me or investments like this should be better of some better startup ideas like solving global warming, crisis in other parts of the country. There are other parts of the world that needs more solutions than another phone.
dirtylowprofile··on Xcode 9
Have you tried compiling? I was wondering if there was any performance improvements on that portion.
dirtylowprofile··on Ask HN: Why shouldn't I leave Google?
SE Asia? Come to Philippines, there are a lot of startups here and so much to solve out here.
dirtylowprofile··on Ask HN: What web technology stack would you use?
A little more detail please. I will be compiling and researching and discussing with the team.
dirtylowprofile··on Facebook employs hundreds of young Filipinos to remove offensive material
I think if they do have automations, they wouldn't outsource it here to us. Plus employing an additional 3,000 is not giving me any belief that they do have some filtering mechanisms.
dirtylowprofile··on Facebook employs hundreds of young Filipinos to remove offensive material
We're not America. Some may work the same as 6 day work week, but still our rate is like 1/12 of how much you guys own in an hour. Shit, some gringos even asked me $400 to have them develop an app for them. That is like one day for an engineer from Silicon Valley.
dirtylowprofile··on Facebook employs hundreds of young Filipinos to remove offensive material
The pay is decent enough. But the job description for a kid straight out of college, filtering disturbing videos is not something I would recommend. And imagine doing this for 6 days per week with a quota. And you get fired for not getting the quota.

This terror, fake news, live disturbing videos has been going on for Facebook for years now, I think they should have developed some kind of machine learning to at least detect and reduce a sort of percentage than get this fresh college kids to filter them. Instead they prioritize releasing new emotions stickers and transforming their messenger to a Snapchat clone.

dirtylowprofile··on Facebook employs hundreds of young Filipinos to remove offensive material
I've been here for 31 years. Yet to see violence and dead bodies in person. I don't know where you got this. You need to stop reading news, get the fuck out of your chair and come here.
dirtylowprofile··on Facebook employs hundreds of young Filipinos to remove offensive material
I'm from the Philippines and 6 day week is frowned upon. I can't believe Facebook has tolerated this. As with other countries, we only work for 5 days. Corporate greed is taking advantage of the small rates here.

I know outsourcing is good here. I know a lot of small startups here who does not take advantage of the cheap talent rates here. But this is Facebook. They preach "work life balance" on their blogs but seem to tolerate modern slavery here in my country. This is wrong. I hope this gets to the front page of your blogs and newspaper here.

dirtylowprofile··on Android O Beta Program
This has been also my gripe with Android. I have been developing for Android for over 5 years, and slowly switching to MBP, Xcode and iOS development since last year. And not turning back to Android dev for the meantime. My iPhone5s is still using the latest iOS version, so I have all the next several years to use this as a test device.

While Android on the other hand, I have countless dead phones because either Android N is not coming on it, especially Android O. And the Pixel phones from last 2 years is gonna be dead within this year. I feel like Google has no hope on how to solve this anymore. My minimum SDK is still at 19. My Android code has a lot of Build code check for backwards compatibility. Compared to my iOS code, there is completely none. Google should have address this issue since Marshmallow. But it is too late now.

And there is no Nexus phones here, so the devs here only has Samsung, LG and low cost phones which has no Google support.

dirtylowprofile··on Open sourcing the Firebase SDKs
I'm just wondering if there is a feature on your future pipeline to include username as a sign up/sign in your SDKs besides only email and password?
dirtylowprofile··on GitHub Rewrites Its Desktop Client Using Electron
Dude, I live in a third world where upgrading specs in a computer is really an after thought. As a developer, you should also think other parts of the world. I'm just saying. Majority of the laptops sold here has an average RAM of 4-8GB.
dirtylowprofile··on One month with React Native
Why trust this framework when it can't even get a simple iOS navigation bar right. At one point you need to at least write a "bridge" in Swift or Java because RN did not cover even over 50% of the SDK.
dirtylowprofile··on GitHub Rewrites Its Desktop Client Using Electron
That's okay for now. Until let's say majority of apps run on Electron. What's gonna be left for memory then.
dirtylowprofile··on GitHub Rewrites Its Desktop Client Using Electron
I agree, what's up with all these Electron apps. Based on memory usage currently, Skype is using 245MB, Slack is using 312MB and Spotify at 233MB. While Telegram is only using 78MB. And I have more active chats on Telegram too.
