dirkk0··on We've raised a $5.6M Series A from Union Square Ventures and Flybridge
Thanks for the link, I didn't know about this story - I just received an email from James and now I feel even more honored. I am doing quite a lot with Firebase these days and this makes me want to use it even more.

Come to think of it, this surprises me.

dirkk0··on 'Play by your own rules' - How Gowalla lost the race against Foursquare
Thank you for your comment. I was just posting it, I am not the author. In this thread I found out this was posted before and I hope Josh reads all of this.
dirkk0··on Why I spend my precious spare time with emscripten
While I fully endorse emscripten ( see http://web3dblog.wordpress.com/2012/11/19/news-on-bananabrea... ) I started to play around with https://github.com/rogerwang/node-webkit which is a precompiled chromium that loads a HTML/CSS/JS-Zip file - no compilation at all. If you are in the WebGL/Three.JS field this might be another way to go. I will follow both paths.
dirkk0··on ViziCities Dev Diary #1: Visualising Cities in 3D using WebGL
This is exactly what you do in ThreeJS.

   THREE.GeometryUtils.merge
does that.
dirkk0··on ViziCities Dev Diary #1: Visualising Cities in 3D using WebGL
Sure. Mail sent.
dirkk0··on ViziCities Dev Diary #1: Visualising Cities in 3D using WebGL
I am working on something similar with the prospect of getting CannonJS physics to work so that one can walk the city (in my case procedurally generated): https://twitter.com/dirkk/status/309024330115842049

I also tried a multi-device approach for visualisation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TiZzovx5YE

Any chance of collaboration?

From this thread I reckon there are quite a few people working on something similar. I guess it would be extremely cool if we could join forces.

dirkk0··on GitHub playable version of The Conception (browser-based 7-day roguelike game)
Come to think of it, one can nearly consider this a 'serious game' (though I don't like the term much) or it could be enhanced into this: after all it describes the ... process in quite an entertaining way.

It even explains why sometimes losing is a good thing. :-)

dirkk0··on GitHub playable version of The Conception (browser-based 7-day roguelike game)
It really took me some time to find out what this is about but it becomes obvious when you are near the target :-). Great job!
dirkk0··on Google is about to learn a tough lesson
Exactly.

Axing the reader makes my private and professional life/work way more complicated. That is the first time that a Google believer like me feels they pulled the rug under me.

I just mailed Shawn, and this was his response: Q: "and I wonder - did you try this out in the 'field' (ie class room), already?" A:"Yeah, I have, I have been playing this for 2 years with students. The response has been amazing, both for guys and girls, they are really into it."

dirkk0··on A Short Rant About Working Remotely
You are absolutely right IMHO.

Same problem (seems off-topic but i am not so sure it is) is for someone who doesn't smoke. I don't and I thought about starting (or at least getting myself chocolate cigarettes) to join the colleagues outside during the break to stay in the information loop.
