dinosaurdynasty··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
You still have to practice arithmetic to be good at it, and a lot of mathematicians don't
dinosaurdynasty··on Japan’s population drops by half a million in 2022
Yeah I already know I live in the USA.

However: seeing an "AI" (you think this will end with chatbots?) >>>>>>>>>> not seeing a real person

I have to wait over a month to see a registered dietitian to _hopefully_ deal with SIBO. This is not unusual for healthcare.

Refusing to automate the "human" parts of healthcare will do nothing but kill people due to delayed or expensive care. Imagine a world where everyone had a doctor with all current medical knowledge available 24/7!

dinosaurdynasty··on Capabilities of GPT-4 on Medical Challenge Problems
Most doctors are not good doctors. ChatGPT may very well already be better than the rapid 60-second barely-listen-then-dismissal, maybe here's some medicine vaguely associated with one word you said, sessions that most people get from most doctors.
dinosaurdynasty··on ChatGPT will revolutionize the economy. We need to decide what that looks like
If it's better at taking care of my health than the American Healthcare System, sign me up!
dinosaurdynasty··on Affordable device will let anyone connect their brain to a computer
I'm sure you could Ship of Theseus it (upload a % of your mind at a time)
dinosaurdynasty··on Affordable device will let anyone connect their brain to a computer
I'm hoping for mind uploading... my body sucks, I crave the power of bits
dinosaurdynasty··on Emulating Pokemon Emerald on GPT-4
As someone who is currently dealing with a sudden worsening of a chronic illness and a healthcare system that can be described as "a brick wall with a flow chart", AGI please replace us already, we are incompetent and undeserving and I would much rather live a fun "meaningless" painless existence than the hell I live in now.
dinosaurdynasty··on Ask HN: What are we even chasing?
Oh, I've definitely figured it out. My family holds relatively little importance to me and I absolutely loathe the mere idea of raising children, and no amount of additional life experience is going to change that (to the point that "having children" is easily one of the worst "realistic/reasonable" things I can imagine happening to me).

Not all of us want to be good little replicators.

dinosaurdynasty··on Ask HN: What are we even chasing?
Why should we achieve X and then be content forever?

It's not like we eat a really good meal and are never hungry again!

dinosaurdynasty··on Some gut bacteria appear to communicate with the brain
It's common to take a 2 week course of something like Xifaxan (an antibiotic that works in the small intestine) after a positive SIBO test, which is not something you can do without a doctor/gastroenterologist prescribing it for you.

-- someone who tested positive for a hydrogen/methane breath test and just finished a 2 week course of Xifaxan

dinosaurdynasty··on Quitting the rat race
And in the US it is rare to be able to get health insurance without working full time. Good luck with that.
dinosaurdynasty··on The Spaceballs Argument for Unconditional Basic Income
So we should let those who can't work die?
dinosaurdynasty··on Taking over a Dead IoT Company
People have to go on vacation sometimes
dinosaurdynasty··on Production Twitter on one machine? 100Gbps NICs and NVMe are fast
You don't need k8s for that, teams have been doing that for decades before k8s was ever a thing
dinosaurdynasty··on Rising rent, not poverty, is the real driver of homelessness
Making month-to-month 60% more expensive is effectively refusing to allow it to go month-to-month
dinosaurdynasty··on Coworkers are less ambitious; bosses adjust to the new order
How many US enterprises are monopolies or pseudo-monopolies?
dinosaurdynasty··on Algorithms to Live By – The Computer Science of Human Decisions
Turing machines don't have to be deterministic (though it doesn't let you in principle calculate things you otherwise couldn't): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nondeterministic_Turing_machin..., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probabilistic_Turing_machine
dinosaurdynasty··on Algorithms to Live By – The Computer Science of Human Decisions
Isn't that just using the subconscious's algorithms instead of the conscious's?
dinosaurdynasty··on Hard truths I learned when I got laid off from my SWE job
There's a big difference between telling (third-party) recruiters and employers these things.
dinosaurdynasty··on Life Is Short (2016)
Well it'd be the last thing I see either way
dinosaurdynasty··on Life Is Short (2016)
There are way more things to do than "raise kids" and "tap on screen"
dinosaurdynasty··on Life Is Short (2016)
I (not OP) want to see the death of a supermassive black hole, so 10^106 years or so. I'm sure I can figure out what to do in the meantime!
dinosaurdynasty··on Staring into the abyss as a core life skill
Does that matter for the fish?
dinosaurdynasty··on The End of Programming
Modern ML models (the kind used in GPT) are Turing-complete afaik
dinosaurdynasty··on Let's Encrypt now supports ACME-CAA: closing the DV loophole
https://dnscrypt.info/public-servers

Lots of servers out there support DoH

dinosaurdynasty··on Let's Encrypt now supports ACME-CAA: closing the DV loophole
It requires DNSSEC to prevent MITM between the CA and the domain's nameservers.
dinosaurdynasty··on Ask HN: How to do that you need to do but not motivated at all?
Try eating healthier. And I really mean healthier, not just a salad occasionally, you have to change what you eat on a daily basis. It helps a lot, anecdotally. If you're eating something terrible like the Standard American Diet you aren't giving your brain the nutrients it needs to work ideally, and that can cause motivation issues.
dinosaurdynasty··on Astronomers just confirmed the most ancient galaxies ever observed
The article doesn't make it obvious but that's not the size of the galaxy, that's the size of the part of the sky they looked through. They make it sound like they looked through 100,000 galaxies in that sliver of sky and found the 2-4 older-than-anything-we've-seen-before galaxies.
dinosaurdynasty··on Not-so-great features coming soon to Windows 11
Both AMD and Intel have open source drivers upstreamed into the Linux kernel (and are the vendor recommended ones, outside of certain enterprise use cases).

It's really only NVIDIA that's proprietary.
