diegoholiveira··on Notes on structured concurrency, or: Go statement considered harmful
The post advocates for structured concurrency, but it compares a language primitive with a library abstraction. In Go, implementing the same basic nursery concept is straightforward with `golang.org/x/sync/errgroup`:

  g, ctx := errgroup.WithContext(ctx)

  g.Go(func() error {
    return task1(ctx)
  })

  g.Go(func() error {
    return task2(ctx)
  })

  return g.Wait()
If you don't care about error propagation or cancellation at all, the standard library also provides `sync.WaitGroup`.

The author also seems to argue that structured concurrency is always preferable, but I do not think that is true. There are valid use cases for unstructured concurrency, particularly for long-lived or independently managed tasks.

I remember that. It was the first time I heard about Scala.

I saw a lot of RoR companies/users thinking “should we do the same?” without even realizing that they do not have the same twitter scalability problems.

After one year using Apple Mail and iCloud+, I did migrate to another client and provider because of this issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/256028878

diegoholiveira··on iCloud Mail has DNS misconfigured?
The only issue that I have with iCloud+ with my custom domain is about two gmail accounts which I don’t get mail from. It’s super weird.
diegoholiveira··on Ask HN: Is there an equivalent of Cursor for Vim?
I don't think there is something close to Cursor but I'm using `claude.vim` for almost an year and it's pretty good, imo.

Well, USD is used too. For decades. Even with too many regulations and security controls implemented by financial institutions around the world.

News technologies will require more and more energy.

It's possible to ban bitcoin?

diegoholiveira··on Ask HN: What's something you're 100% certain will be around in next 10 years?
The Catholic Church.
diegoholiveira··on Legalized online gambling in Brazil is leaving more people in debt
Gambling has been a huge disaster for the country as a whole. If it were up to me, I would have already banned all gambling platforms in the country. But to make matters worse, the government is studying a state-owned gambling platform.

> However, there are many rules and mechanisms in place to stop fiat being used for crime

Yes, but even with those mechanisms in place, crime was doing ok without crypto.

> Lastly, fiat is indispensable in running a modern economy.

Not sure about this.

> An equally strong argument can be made that WW2 never actually ended.

I already saw this argument to WWI, and on this case, the person consider that WWI and WWII was one war. But I never saw this argument about WW2.

diegoholiveira··on Ask HN: Could Brazil's Supreme Court IT team track VPN usage on X?
The restrictions apply to X, so you can use your vpn to anything else. I use it daily on my job (it’s being hard to resist the temptation of take a look on X).

Also, I saw many people saying that a read only access is fine, but posting could be more problematic.

diegoholiveira··on Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil
> What i said is that Elon expect that a right wing government would block, difficult or delay this single Chinese company from buying Sigma Lithium to help him to buy it instead..

My point is about this: Musk's expectations will most likely not be met, even with a right wing president. Brazil and China are strong trading partners (and friends nowadays, with Brics became a reality).

diegoholiveira··on Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil
nah, Bolsonaro criticizing China is the same as Lula criticizing the US: they are sending signals to their supporters.

Both know that Brazil is not in a position to refuse to do business with China and the US.
