diegoholiveira··on Ask HN: Why is Gnome so inceridlby, insanely, bad?
I use to like Gnome 2. Simple, clean and efficient. When Gnome 3 was launched, I was already using a mac book, so didn't try it.
diegoholiveira··on Ask HN: Which movies did you watch multiple times?
Batman. Any Batman movie but specially the cartons.
diegoholiveira··on Suspicious data pattern in recent Venezuelan election
> Please please please read academic books about the political history of Brazil or contemporary politics in Brazil instead of listening to a rando like me on the internet!

LOL

diegoholiveira··on Show HN: Create diagrams of complex data flows in software systems
Super cool. Huge potential.
diegoholiveira··on Ask HN: How to build software to last 20 years? 50 years? 100 years?
software change because the job that is does, also change. example: moving money around today is not like it use to be 20 years ago.

an analogy with constructions makes no sense, IMO.

diegoholiveira··on What Makes Politicians Popular?
> What makes politicians popular?

Their ability to lie.

diegoholiveira··on Brazil data regulator bans Meta from mining data to train AI models
with half the fine, Meta buys the entire Brazilian supreme court and suddenly: no fines, no jail and everyone will be happy.
diegoholiveira··on Ask HN: Well architected React and Node repos?
IMO, shared utils must be a library, like:

    features
        auth
            login
    libraries
        dates
        strings
        ...

I don't like to have a package / library called `utils`, `commons`, `shared` and other generic words that does not indicate me what's the context of this folder.
diegoholiveira··on Noam Chomsky hospitalized in Brazil after stroke
> Valeria Chomsky said via email that her 95-year-old husband is in a Sao Paulo hospital, where she took him on an ambulance jet with two nurses once he could more easily travel from the United States following the June 2023 stroke.

He came here using an ambulance jet from US. Or did I get it wrong?

But yeah, in general you right, SUS is a great public health system, specially for such cases. But rich people don't use it, so it's not relevant to people like Chomsky. But it's super relevant to people like me.

diegoholiveira··on Noam Chomsky hospitalized in Brazil after stroke
He is in one of the best private hospitals of the south hemisphere. Didn’t understand your point here.
diegoholiveira··on Paulo Freire: The Brazilian Philosopher Who Revolutionized Education

computer science is a big field. can't agree with this statement.

YNAB. They use to be a desktop app, but converted it to a SaaS, unfortunately.
diegoholiveira··on Tracking Illicit Brazilian Beef from the Amazon to Your Burger
> Give Brazil time. Things will improve again.

What mechanisms were put into action that indicate improvement?

I'm Brazilian, living in Brazil and I don't share your optimism.

diegoholiveira··on Neoliberal economics: The road to freedom or authoritarianism?
> "I strongly opposed deregulation of finance, in part because I understood that 'freeing' the financial sector would make us all less free in the end," Stiglitz writes in his book.

LOL

> He blames financial deregulation for contributing to the 2008 financial crisis.

Some economists says that it happened due to regulation and monetary policy [1]

diegoholiveira··on No One Should Have That Much Power
It’s amazing (or scary) to see how much power any government in the world has this days.

diegoholiveira··on "My last post": Edward Perez, ex-director for civic integrity at Twitter
> As an ex-Dir of Product Mgmt at Twitter, I care about mitigating harm associated with speech.

I would love to see real examples of tweets that this guy considered “this will cause harm, let’s censor it”.

The Catholic Church use to do something similar during the middle age.

diegoholiveira··on Just bought a new PC, it won't let me use it unless I create a Microsoft account
He didn’t buy windows, he bought a new PC. Or did I get it wrong?
diegoholiveira··on Brazil's Authoritarian Rise

In a isolated and secure VPC, for sure.
diegoholiveira··on Bitcoin mining used more water than New York City last year
I didn’t say it will become cheaper overtime.

New technologies that require massive amounts of bandwidth and CPU/GPU power are expensive. And those will not became cheaper overtime.
