dicknuckle··on Olmo 3: Charting a path through the model flow to lead open-source AI
It's a way to validate the LLM output in a test scenario.
dicknuckle··on OpenAI may not use lyrics without license, German court rules
Does what a US court rules really matter?
dicknuckle··on Tiny electric motor can produce more than 1,000 horsepower
Do you not have personal experience with people under 40 in America? I would bet $20 over 95% of them don't know how to balance a check book.
dicknuckle··on Show HN: Run – a CLI universal code runner I built while learning Rust
How much time are you saving for each invocation? My 10 year old laptop invokes /usr/bin/env in less time than an HTTPS handshake.
dicknuckle··on Privacy Badger is a free browser extension made by EFF to stop spying
completely untrue.
dicknuckle··on Teardown of Apple 40W dynamic power adapter with 60W max
The issue seems to be with Chrome based browsers.
dicknuckle··on A receipt printer cured my procrastination
keepassxc does great with TOTP codes, but the default client isn't the easiest to add them with.
dicknuckle··on Launching RDAP; sunsetting WHOIS
I don't understand why people aren't using fake addresses for registering domains. I've had a few registered to 1001 Main St in my local town and a made up phone number for over 10 years now with no issue. Main Street will never be over 40 addresses for the foreseeable future and I can just update the record if need be.
dicknuckle··on Peer-to-peer file transfers in the browser
have you tried Otter Browser?
dicknuckle··on Alice Hamilton waged a one-woman campaign to get the lead out of everything
There's something extremely wrong with that iron. I've had a Tenma soldering station to that once, caused by a bad thermocouple that was lying to the controller.
dicknuckle··on Payments crisis of 2025: Not “read only” access anymore
Nitter etc are locked out as far as I know. That was likely a huge load on the site.
dicknuckle··on Order Declassifying JFK and MLK Assassination Records [pdf]
Edgy comments without any substance sure do make it seem that way.
dicknuckle··on Steam Brick: No screen, no controller, just a power button and a USB port
The issue is usually with the graphics card itself in my experience.

This is easily "fixed" on a DVI port by plugging a resistor of the correct value into two of the tiny pin sockets. The diagram is very easy to find online and you don't have to open the computer. That's become a thing of the past as far as I know.

dicknuckle··on Solaar is a Linux manager for many Logitech keyboards, mice, and other devices
It's a manager for the device's extra features, and pairing of dongles since that's not handled by the OS. It replaces a few of the typical Logitech applications that normally do this.
dicknuckle··on Solaar is a Linux manager for many Logitech keyboards, mice, and other devices
Agree. It's rare to find a failed Logitech mouse.
dicknuckle··on Dumb TVs deserve a comeback
The TV I bought 2 years ago and never connected it to the Internet. Not even for setup. Zero issues.
dicknuckle··on Dumb TVs deserve a comeback
My LG does none of this.

It's also never been connected to the internet, and my router also has a static IP reservation to give the TV an IP that is not on my subnet in case someone in my house ever tries to connect it to the internet.

dicknuckle··on 2400 phone providers may be shut down by the FCC for failing to stop robocalls
What a weird generalization. I've had no issues receiving email from plenty of other domains.

On the flip side, it only took me a few days to fix my friend's business domain so they could send emails to Gmail users.

dicknuckle··on 2400 phone providers may be shut down by the FCC for failing to stop robocalls
It doesn't play any kind of greeter. Seems to be an online database of spam numbers, I receive calls marked as Spam with a big red exclamation mark. it's not as simple as blocking any calls that aren't already contacts. I could never use that professionally.
dicknuckle··on The Bluesky firehose viewed in the style of a Windows XP screensaver
Works fine on Kiwi Browser on Android, although I'm using a fairly powerful ASUS phone.
dicknuckle··on The Onion buys Infowars
More likely to be a case of not being familiar with US politics and events. We're not the world, and plenty of Americans forget that.
dicknuckle··on Cognizant found guilty of discriminating against non-Indian employees
Migrated from self hosted Atlassian to cloud Atlassian.
dicknuckle··on Wp2hugo: Best WordPress to Hugo migrator (written in Go)
That's what I do, and he happens to be a machinist and welder. The static site is generated from Local WP, pushed to a GitHub repo, which is connected to Cloudflare Pages, which hosts it for free with SSL. I even set up a website monitor in GitHub Actions, but still have a separate website monitoring service with alerts. All for free.
dicknuckle··on Nomad, communicate off-grid mesh, forward secrecy and extreme privacy
blockchain can be cheap (power, compute etc) and not crap. Doesn't mean every project that builds with it takes that into consideration.
dicknuckle··on Show HN: If YouTube had actual channels
Get Plex. There's a ton of free live streaming channels for a ton of tastes and genres. Some of them I think to myself "This should have been a steaming channel years ago".
dicknuckle··on Zoraxy: Open-Source, All in one homelab network routing solution
never heard that in my life.
dicknuckle··on On reddit: Someone in IT trolled me for over a decade
I find it hard to believe the story, mostly based on the description of the new IT guy finding all of that within a week.

Not to demean IT folks, as many of us have worn that hat at some point in our lives) but in the first week, a new IT worker is finding obvious things like "why do we only have 30% of our network gear in the monitoring system" or "shouldn't we change the hard drive with a blinking error light on the server?"

dicknuckle··on DBeaver – open-source database client
Agreed, I've had mostly the same experience. There was about a month where I wasn't able to run a particular query on Oracle SQL but that's fixed now.
dicknuckle··on Deploying fiber in the home
Depends on the ISP and the teams doing the install. I used to work middle mile fiber along roadways from town to town and every bit of that was spliced on-site. There were very few exceptions where we would spec a pre-term cable for cell towers and certain buildings but we would often be splicing inside a building.
dicknuckle··on Bypassing the WiFi Hardware Switch on the Lenovo X201 (2023)
It's typical techno-babble from fear-mongering media entities like Bloomberg and Daily Mail
