An idiot with authority is a bad time for everyone.
You tell me how many dogs, blacks, children, wtf-ever. is required before it's OK to 1) Earnestly hold police and the system accountable and 2) To have a healthy wariness, if not outright distrust, of cops and LEOs in general.
Seems to me like we've passed those thresholds and then-some a while ago.
All the resources in the world but absolutely glacial progress.
Again? They've been comatose for years. Look how they keep screwing up w/Youtube.
Everything is an algorithm problem to them and when something goes wrong it's always "oops, crazy technology blah blah algorithms". Which is 100% a cop out. Google has been resting on its laurels for a while now. Like Steam, they've shirked all responsibility for their service/platform. Must be nice to do f-all and still print money...
Because chaos.
Even with family as law enforcement, I've never trusted police. As a vet I'm disgusted by their lack of training and quickness to shoot first and ask questions later. Last I checked the average is 32 dogs shot by US cops a day. I don't even need to delve into the refusal to wear body cams, race issues, etc. etc. American police have not given Americans any reason to assume they are ever on the same side.
Eighteen year old infantrymen, who have an infinitely greater chance of danger, have more resolve and professionalism than American cops. I'd trust that 18 year old ground pounder over a cop any day over any thing.
I've been a HEAVY youtube user since around 06/07 and I'd still love to see them knocked off their perch.
Something something, a good craftsman doesn't blame his tools.
If nothing than just getting a pound of flesh from twitter.
PR will come up with all sorts of reasons said acquisition will benefit both company's customers but I've yet to see it.
python-based version for tabular data processing & management, ecom oriented mostly (so basically op's product), myself.
If you can't keep data secure you don't need to be in business.
IRC with persistence? Oh that’s acana, slack, hipchat, whatever this year’s VC-backed boondoggle is. I haven’t seen anything new after IRC beyond ICQ. Just like movies now. Same meh, new packaging.
As a son of a cop and former service member myself, the whole thing makes me sick. And the COMPLETE lack of repercussions makes me furious. God forbid some idiot doesn't get his "gold watch." The thin blue line will rally around that idiot to protect him.
I remember contributing to BigCommerce's crappy software just because I needed it to actually do it's job (despite the fact that my boss was paying their enterprise rate). I got shitty responses from their devs and nothing got fixed when I forked and submitted patches. I kept and then hid my working fork and never looked back.
Yeah, a company can fix it's own problems. Open source, perhaps... Helping a profitable business for nothing? Never again.
I guess Medium is one more domain to mentally filter out.
