The stuff about child support is actively gross and totally incorrect. Median child support in the US is ~$500/mo; vanishingly few people have the kind of money he's talking about.
If it were that easy, we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic. I get that the solutions for individuals seem straightforward, but something is affecting most of our population, and it's problematic.
Let's say that they're not be looking for "the perfect personal weight-loss diet," to sell, but working toward larger systemic changes that will reverse or halt the trend in the greater population (like mandating vaccines, but I doubt the answer here is a "fat vaccine").
When my twins were born, I knew pretty quickly that my daughter was different. While her brother was all eye contact and cooing, she was always in her own world. Without a neurotypical sibling, it might have taken much longer to spot.
This is really neat, and it will probably be very useful to some people, but it sets off some very loud warning bells in my head. Is s/o really for copypasta mining? Sometimes, I guess... but still.
Even if a child does not fully understand everything, the child DOES understand that when they type an instruction, the computer will execute it! This is exciting, akin to finally getting that the squiggles on paper are words and letters, even if you don't know them and can't quite read them yet. The next step is to build up concepts, like executing steps in a loop, or storing information and getting it later, or starting and stopping. This is all worthwhile, even if you can't quite see it from where you are standing.
This has been a super fun thing in our house: http://scratch.mit.edu/ It's also something a 7 year old can use on his or her own to learn concepts and make fun stuff.
I have ADHD and no tolerance for weed -- it ruins my headspace and makes me paranoid. I also hate ritalin/etc, so I manage myself using tools like lists, alerts (if I've been using my web browser for too long), calendars, and lots of visual cues around my workspace and home (color-coded stickies).
I really, really wish drugs worked better for me, because it looks so much easier.
"Excellent communication skills," is a meaningless throwaway line. Does it mean "not an asshole", or "fluent in <company language>", or "able to craft client emails", or "presents at conferences"? Why bother putting that in if you are not excellently communicating what you exactly mean?
For some companies the standards are not entirely meaningful. Must have 3.9 GPA from an Ivy League school, know [obscure library] in detail, have experience in Scala and Lua and OCaml and Julia, as well as a deep passion for cricket. Then, once this person is found, they put them to work building a Rails CRUD app... There is some hyperbole here, but not too much.
Come on, these are trained artists, not "illiterate dirt farmers." There's a way to have the globalization discussion respectfully, but this is not it.
I stopped getting so many calls after I gutted my LinkedIn profile. It's still there, but a keyword search for a specific technology isn't going to find me any more.
