dfc··on OpenMPTCProuter: Aggregate and encrypt multiple internet connections using MPTCP
I've never heard of XRay or V2Ray. It seems like a niche thing?
dfc··on Australia/Lord_Howe is the weirdest timezone
Thank you. I was a little surprised by the price but I guess I naively hoped it was a change of heart from big standards.
dfc··on Australia/Lord_Howe is the weirdest timezone
Does anyone understand what was meant by "This is because almost every standard (except ISO8601, whatever) is just a file, and you can read it." Initially I thought it was because the PDF of ISO-8601 is not a file commonly distributed with operating system. But that's not unique to ISO8601, you won't find IEEE 1588-2019 or NMEA 0183 v4.11 on your computer either. For ~20$ I think I can buy a PDF of the standard from ISO. Is there something special about ISO8601 that is not contained in the standard?
dfc··on Transitioning the Use of Cryptographic Algorithms and Key Lengths
NIST does a lot of really neat work outside of crypto standards. Judah Levine and all the other metrology folks are awesome. It's unfortunate that they get grouped together by comments like this.

dfc··on TCAS averts possible head-on collision in Austin
Are you referring to the 45 year old Cessna when you say private jet? It looks like that plane flies a lot around Louisiana and Texas. Weird to jump to a conclusion about F1 money and an entitled pilot.
dfc··on Show HN: What happens if you make a crossword out of Reddit r/gaming
It happens on puzzles 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20.
dfc··on Show HN: What happens if you make a crossword out of Reddit r/gaming
Why is there no 1 across on the puzzle? There are clues for 1 across but not on the "board".
dfc··on Amazon reveals first color Kindle, new Kindle Scribe, and more
It sounds like they did both:

dfc··on Amazon reveals first color Kindle, new Kindle Scribe, and more
I got the kindle oasis because of the next/prev page buttons. I don't know why they discontinued it.
dfc··on Amazon reveals first color Kindle, new Kindle Scribe, and more
I've been a kindle user for so long I'm embarrassed to admit I don't have any concept of what it is like to get ebooks outside of the Amazon ecosystem. Was the change easy to make? Do you feel like you have access to as much content as you did with a kindle?
dfc··on Turn your Android phone into a modern ham radio transceiver
So just assume your Baofeng battery is also managed. Tada! Two battery free solutions.
dfc··on Turn your Android phone into a modern ham radio transceiver
How is this battery free?
dfc··on Video Surveillance with YOLO+llava
I just recently got frigate up and running. How do the other two compare?
dfc··on Wigle.net: All the networks, found by everyone
It's kind of crazy to see how prevalent MYChevrolet and/or myGMC are. There are more MYChevrolet / myGMC SSIDs than attwifi. I have to think this is because so many people are doing the stumbling from inside of a vehicle.
dfc··on Whence '\n'?
I can't find a reference now. But from what I remember the logo is supposed to be on top facing the user when plugging a device in. This was part of the standard that defined the size/shape/etc of what USB is.
dfc··on MusicBrainz: An open music encyclopedia
If you want a awesome tool to manage your music collection check out beets: https://beets.io/

It makes heavy use of MusicBrainz. If you are OCD about your digital music collection it is a must have.

dfc··on CNN and USA Today have fake websites, I believe Forbes Marketplace runs them
Which of these authors have LinkedIn profiles documenting their employment history?
dfc··on Attacking UNIX Systems via CUPS
But it seems like User Interaction is required.
dfc··on Attacking UNIX Systems via CUPS
I agree that Alice just needs to print anything but that seems like user interaction required. Its also not clear if Alice has multiple printers defined does it matter which printer she selects?
dfc··on Attacking UNIX Systems via CUPS
The original CVSS score on Twitter indicated that user interaction was not required. However reading the RCE chain on the page says:

Wait for a print job to be sent to our fake printer for the PPD directives, and therefore the command, to be executed.

If Alice never hits print it seems like a print job will never be triggered. Am I missing something? I'm not questioning evilsocket, I'm trying to check my understanding.

dfc··on Comic Mono
I use fantasque sans. I forget what made me choose it over Comic Shanns. It's worth a look if you like this style.

dfc··on Defend against vampires with 10 gbps network encryption
Thank you for your reply. I have had some weird issues with Linux bridges in the past and now I'm wondering if this could have been the culprit.
dfc··on Defend against vampires with 10 gbps network encryption
> I wonder if their setup achieves the same degree of transparency, because afaiui, that's just not possible involving a 802.1Q-compliant (Linux) bridge.

Can you elaborate on what is not transparent about 802.1q bridge in Linux?

I hear you on the system tuning. Whenever I change sysctl variables I always include a comment with what the default was and why the new setting is better. I don't trust sysctl copy pasta w/o decent explanations.

dfc··on Firewall rules: not as secure as you think
I appreciate the response but I think you misunderstood my question. OP mentioned a "software-only, zero implicit trust overlay network". In my head all overlay networks are software only (and from your answer your conception too). I was trying to figure out why OP mentioned "software only"? Was it redundant or was it a useful way to distinguish between another category of overlay network.
dfc··on Firewall rules: not as secure as you think
Are there overlay networks that are not software only?
dfc··on A $10k stipend is available for anyone moving to Cumberland, MD
Cumberland is equidistant (~2 hours) between Pittsburgh airport and Dulles.
dfc··on The Erie Canal: The man-made waterway that transformed the US
I'm from Syracuse (East of Rochester). My gf and I just went back to visit and spent a lot of time riding/running along the canal. It must have been wild to see a pedestrian bridge floating down the canal. I don't think I have ever seen anything bigger than a kayak on the canal.
