What is new about that feature? Couldn't you add arbitrary IDs before?
dexterdog··on The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities
Reminds me of the similar one about Harvard with a hedge fund and a little school.
dexterdog··on Nvidia is the central bank of AI
Fraud?
dexterdog··on The smallest edge AI device for local LLMs
Maybe it's supposed to be less readable by AI but I really think it just makes it a little harder for humans to scrape it.

dexterdog··on Why Wall Street is ignoring big tech's debt [video]
Have you been trashing the non-replaceabe SSD with constant AI workloads? Do you have any idea how much electricity it uses over it those 4 years?
dexterdog··on Why Wall Street is ignoring big tech's debt [video]
But it won't last for life. It will probably last about 4 years so that equates to about 100/mo.

And there are far too few of them elected to have any real impact.
dexterdog··on The lost civic life of movie rental stores
I hope he had a license to be broadcasting that publicly. I wish I were being sarcastic about this.

Delivery food is worse everywhere I've ever had it.
dexterdog··on Back to Kagi

dexterdog··on OverpAId – Fire your CEO. Hire the future
In the startup world they're only really looking to bat better than 10 pct overall to mark success, right? Do we wonder why it's all just a crap shoot?

dexterdog··on Leaking YouTube creators' private videos
How is this remotely related? This is not a safety issue.
dexterdog··on Costco is the anti-Amazon
Order whole foods from them. They will pack 6 things in 4 reusable insulated bags. The problem is there is no way to send those bags back to be reused.
dexterdog··on Costco is the anti-Amazon
It might, but I go to Costco every 3-4 weeks. If I depended on Amazon for everything I'd be getting multiple deliveries per day because there is no disincentive to doing that.
dexterdog··on SearXNG: A free internet metasearch engine
I've been self hosting this as my default engine across all of my searches for a few years now. I can't recommend it more highly.
dexterdog··on Half-Baked Product
Sounds great until a hard decision has to be made.
dexterdog··on Virginia bans sale of geolocation data
Which is crazy because when I do 80 in Mostly PA and NJ I am getting passed constantly.
dexterdog··on Marfa Public Radio Puts You to Sleep
There are ad reads as part of at least half of the videos I watch. Fortunately sponsorblock takes care of most of them.
dexterdog··on Marfa Public Radio Puts You to Sleep
Paying for YouTube does not get rid of ads. Only using sponsor block does.
dexterdog··on Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads
Plus you can de-google those things in a few minutes and make them as barebones as you want. I have a bunch of them connected to all of the TVs that I manage for my family and friends.
dexterdog··on Want your images back? Sure... That'll be $5!
Not only that, but there is a cost for retrieval and transmission especially if you are in cold storage. It's much cheaper to just mark it for deletion than it is to get it back.
dexterdog··on Anthropic/OpenAI may be spending more than $1000 for every $100 you pay them
Not if they commit the kinds of market fraud that Musk's companies have.
dexterdog··on The perils of UUID primary keys in SQLite
The integer is a UTC time so it can be sorted. If you need the time zone you store than in a smaller field.
dexterdog··on The perils of UUID primary keys in SQLite
It's just s dumb as storing dates as strings, but people still do it.
