devy··on Qwen 3.8 27B available on Cerebras at 1500 tokens/s
Exactly, it burns the tokens 3000x faster, which means the budget ($$$$$$) runs out so faster it will stop super quick, not able to perform long-duration work. At 27B parameter size, the intelligence is not able to accomplish work within a short amount time. Consequently, it become not usable.

Amodei is NO Saint!!! He's the most savvy in drumming up the AI doomsday scenarios and haven't yet to apologized his failed forecast of Claude taking over 90% of the coding jobs.

devy··on Using Cloudflare Workers and reCAPTCHA v3 for a Static Site Contact Form
Google has reduced the free tier limit for reCAPTCHA v3 from 1 million down to 10,000 assessments per month as part of its mandatory migration to Google Cloud. [1] So basically it's NOT a viable anti-spam mechanism for many use cases any more because that 10k asessment is easily breached. Let alone the fact that you can't use recaptcha v3 unless you signs up for Google Cloud as well.

Cloudflare Turnstile is a valid alternative though. [2]

devy··on The ChatGPT/Codex app bundles a full copy of LibreOffice
Now someone please use ChatGPT/Codex or Claude Code to rewrite the entire LibreOffice source into a single Rust binary already! Just like Jarred Sumner did for Bun [1] or Carmine Paolino did for Fastpotify [2] - granted there are some rough edges for sure, but the slim diet trimmed down and performance gains were wrothy.

devy··on Refurbishing a Tektronix TDS7104 Oscilloscope
Flebay has some used ones around $1.5k. I wonder how much this model MSRP brand new? Either way, $300 is a steal!
devy··on The End of Programming
Don't conflate the existing SOTA and the future SOTA.

When OpenAI released ChatGPT 3.5 in late 2022 as free a research preview as the SOTA at the time, the model wasn't good and with a ton of hallucinations. There was no harness, context windows was small and token speed is slow. Plenty of folks said what a joke, no one can do serious work with it.

4 year later now looking back, can you imagine what AI capabilities are now? Can you imagine what AI would be capable another 4 years from today?

Keep in mind, AI improvement is not stagnant as everyone is working on Recursive Self-Improvement and trillions of dollars pouring into it. If you are betting the future on the current understanding the AI capability, I bet you will lose.

devy··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
Glad that France built it out now. From now on the fibers price will rise significantly like HBM, NAND chips, power line transformers due to the AI boom.

devy··on Google has stopped pushing Git tags for some Android source code
GPL doesn't require them to publish the source in git. FWIW, Google can be compliant and publish the source in Physical Medium too if they opt too.

Also, the OP did mentioned that Google also squashed the git commit to a single commit for whatever reason.

Did Gemini created this Silicon Valley TV show episode script? Makes so much sense...
devy··on Oracle cut its Always Free ARM limits to 2 OCPU / 12GB, enforced Aug 18
Yep. It's NOT possible to sign up OCI without a payment method now. I signed up late last month and observed the same.

Additionally, it's next to impossible to spin up a free instance even if you provision it under the limit. Every single availability zone in the U.S. have all been constantly "emitting out of capacity" errors for free tier resource allocation. Ironically, if you provisioning beyond the free tier, they are ALL success.

So it looks like Oracle shawdow banned the free tier (or only allow a fixed set of free tier resources that are completely saturated all the time (unless someone spin down their free tier instances).

devy··on Waymo CEO explains why Tesla’s camera-only self-driving falls short
I've been a Electrek reader for almost a decade. It's interesting to see its editor Fred Lambert from super pro-Telsa/Musk when fighting EV vs. ICE cars to anti-Telsa/Musk when Musk got into politics.

Of course Musk knew multi-modality would win true Level 4 autonomous driving. It was a calculated tradeoff to work on vision first when LiDAR (components cost 10s of thousands and unreliable for continuous functioning) and Radar (components cost thousands) when Telsa was battling production hell and has real threat of not making it.

Millions of Tesla on the road and 100s of thousands supercharging stations later, LiDAR becomes more reliable and affordable (just like how Tesla made the lithium batteries affordable).

Could Tesla re-incorporate LiDAR + Radar into their sensing stack in the future. I think so! After all, just a few short years ago, Telsa threw away of their 300k+ lines of C++ initial AI software stack based of MobileEye OEM in opting in their own Deep Learning based neural network model. Now, they might still there are still room for camera/vision only assisted driving technology.

Waymo's modified Jaguar model costs $150k-$200k apiece fully loaded with 3 modalities. Tesla Cybercab production cost is below $30k. They are on DIFFERENT segment. Comparing them is like comparing Toyota Corolla vs. Feferrari for their engine output, absurd!

So, this article feels like another emotional biased hit piece of Lambert jabbing at Musk which is daily occurrence now at Electrek.

devy··on Show HN: Ex-Deloitte auditor open-sourced the whole SOC 2 method for your AI
Is this how every auditor does though or just you/Deloitte? SOC 2 is a set of guidelines, not mandates, there is one size fits all and every org may design their own security controls based on their unique systems. Is that the same philosophy on the auditing side as well?

devy··on A walk through of the DeltaNet family of linear attention variants
Doubleword AI is conducting a classic textbook marketing trick called newsjacking.

Writing a detailed technical post behind the news of Kimi K3 and KDA algorithm with an audacious title like "You Could Have Invent Breakthrough It too" they are pre-filtering out the ones who couldn't comprehend with quick read (myself included) and attracting the ones who agreed with the blog post. At the end with a strong CTA to promoting their 10x cheapter open weight model AI inference and hiring too.

Good job Doubleword, I see what you are doing there.

devy··on Linux 0.11 rewritten in idiomatic Rust, boots in QEMU
Docs full of emojis, this is another AI slop?!

Tangential note: there is already a community effort[1] to rewrite GNU commandline tools into Rust and Canonical shipped the rust version of the /bin/utils in Ubuntu 26.04 Resolute Raccoon by default[2] in their "oxidizing" initiative.[3]

PS: Linus Torvalds has confirmed that the existing Linux kernel will never be fully rewritten in Rust.[4] Let's see how well that statement age.
