Most of those people either a) commute a long distance to scrape by and lose a significant chunk of their earnings on gas because they own a 30 year old hoopty of a truck or b) live off of welfare. That’s how a lot of these small communities continue to exist. People can’t afford to move out and obviously don’t want to commit suicide (nor should they).
Having come from a small town, I don’t think these people will move even if it’s paid for. Many rural folk have these warped views of more populace towns and cities because of the warped political rhetoric and constant bombardment of negative news coverage.
It’s an extremely difficult problem that I don’t personally believe has a solution because you have to have willing participation (some will, but most won’t).
The other 10% are the scam “get solar for free” ads.
Do you need a personal vehicle to carry a few sandwiches, some water and a first aid kit? If you are going camping can’t you rent a vehicle, how often do you realistically go camping that it justifies the cost of ownership over renting when you _truly_ need it?
If you really do need a car, that’s totally acceptable! But how many people don’t actually need it for anything other than weekend grocery shopping and work commutes? Hint: a very large portion of the population.
The Discover feed has been helpful for me to discover libraries I can use or projects to contribute to. I approve of it much more than the profile badges (which seem abandoned?).
To the author: believe it or not but open source is a community. People need help and others want to offer help, just because a new discover feature isn’t for you doesn’t make the company the ruin of all software programming.
My house was built around the time the automobile became common, meaning long long long before parking requirements or even driveways and I have a yard… I highly suggest you take a look around - even within the US - at older neighborhoods and see how nice and quaint it can be without loud, smelly, space wasting cars.
