devb0x··on Three 20-year-old programmers build a working Obamacare website in just days
A working website.. .and then you read that it "doesn't try to do the more complex operations that the government site will offer - such as actually applying for insurance coverage".

Nice PR for the guys, Im sure it'll help with their day to day. but really, its just a few click thoughs aint it.

devb0x··on Ask HN: How are you authenticating rest service clients
following on bmeltons question, the user must still log in, so the username / password is only entered once and this token is then returned? What about session expiration, how is that determined, and what about a user logging on from different devices - a token for each device ?
devb0x··on Ask HN: How are you authenticating rest service clients
thanks, so basically you're hashing a token a each time a request comes in you decode.. do you increase the session expiration date or keep it as is?
devb0x··on Ask HN: How are you authenticating rest service clients
gees thank you for all that Junto!
devb0x··on Ask HN: Which recurring tasks have you automated?
ooh plenty

resizing images i'd receive from clients for their websites to a standard size. it just runs through the folder and resizes.

image manipulation to add borders

automating a continuous integration environment, built a website where developers could enter ticket details and a front end component they require delivered to the lab, which then kicks off the build, makes the components and uploads to the client's server and sends mail

db2 package creation by looking up files on a unix filesystem and providing them to the dba's packaging tool

and everything i install i typically have a bash script for.

devb0x··on What are the Windows A: and B: drives used for?
haha oh to be old and have seen these things in real life!
devb0x··on Ask HN: Graphical OSS code editor for Linux?

devb0x··on Ask HN: Why MariaDB and not Percona
I actually just read a slide about why. Because Percona is still downstream of Oracle

I love answering my own questions.

devb0x··on Ask HN: Secure and minimalist linux distros?
just run 2 browsers man
devb0x··on Ask HN: The best Internet browser for young children?
I am not letting my daughter go mad on the net when she's 5, I think she'll need guidance and therefore, my browser and my attention will be hers when she starts netting away
devb0x··on How to never forget one's laptop power cord again
do what i do, whereever I am. Be paranoid and look around and say "what have I left here, because I dont want to come back to get it."
devb0x··on What do you think of the current state of Linux media players?
I use VLC and it plays anything. But its cross platform... I use PMS - playstation media server - to serve video and it works nicely too
devb0x··on Rewire Your File-Transfer Routine
a cross over cable, sure I've got one :)
devb0x··on Ask HN: Do any netbooks still exist?
Get an hp mini. I have a 210 and i love it. Running ubuntu in case you want to know.

I'm writing this comment on my mini.

devb0x··on Has the front pages of r/technology and HN become shockingly similar?
you can also pick up similar submissions on pinboard
devb0x··on Ask HN: How/where should I host my personal site?
looking at your comments you also want to play. so you need to get shared hosting that allows python or a vps where you can do what you want.
devb0x··on If programming doesn't make me happy, what does?
It's a vocation. A career, a job. Sometimes it sucks, sometimes its a challenge.

but dont let it define you.

devb0x··on Dedicated Server vs. own server, suggestions?
change hosts, go with a company with history and longevity in mind.
devb0x··on Ask HN: Is it okay to accept work in a language you haven't done before
Take the gig, get the specs, make it happen.

Else you will not grow brother.

devb0x··on I got offered a full-time web developer position.I am unequipped for it.How?

devb0x··on Canada's Start-up Visa

Is it easy to get a VISA as a developer?

devb0x··on A simple GUI to set up virtual machines for PHP development
when i saw the link i was like 'not another one'

but the site is neat. i wouldnt call it a GUI tho, it makes it sound like another app i need to install.

And i agree with the comment that it should be cli. that would be really neat.

devb0x··on Ask HN: Instagram says I'm infringing on their name
I would not have bought that domain name. Instagram is a made up word and any assocation - whether there is or not - by use of your domain name could be misconstrued.
devb0x··on Eclipse Kepler 4.3 released
This would have been more useful if you told us what it was, what it could do.
devb0x··on Ask HN: How to focus and work on something that you hate and disgust
Break it down into pieces. And then do that again. until it is manageable. Then kill those tasks one by one
devb0x··on Why companies only show jobs and not career paths on their websites? Any idea?
Yeah you aren't gonna be there that long. They know it. And you know it. So why pretend like you'll move to management when they already have managers? From Engineer to Sales? Not unless you suck, then they may move you around - I've seen that happen to some people a few times
devb0x··on Ask HN: Does US law apply to AWS data-centers located outside USA?
TOS mention jurisdiction? Im sure its US soil somewhere
