Search for Noise. I believe Copperhead OS is working on a fork that's compatible, but doesn't rely on Google Play Services.
deusum··on Borneo Lost More Than 100k Orangutans from 1999 to 2015
Palm oil production is also a major detriment to elephants. It shows up subtly in a lot of processed products.

There are some responsible producers, and if you check the packaging they'll typically label it proudly.

deusum··on Amazon will launch its own delivery service to compete with FedEx, UPS
Sounds like contract work done by the lowest bidder. No coherent chain of a command, just get stuff to people's houses no matter what or lose your contract.

Universal Basic Income sounds like a convenient way to prevent the various ways to create inequality and centralize wealth. Very curious how the experiments in progress will turn out.

Taking hints from a 2D page and presenting as an interactive 3D structure doesn't sound far-fetched.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo has life changing philosophical implications when applied outside of simple home life.

Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu is a classic text on harmony and humility.

Yes, but difficult to get a date.

Sad that you don't defend the innocent because you deemed them hypothetical.

Should that be meth use and addiction, or math use and addition?

Well said.
deusum··on Ask HN: How have you successfully simplified your life?
Phone specific:

Delete as many apps from your phone as possible. If you can do it on a computer, ditch it.

Turn off notifications. Check apps when you're ready, not when it tells you it needs attention.

Personal hack, using Tasker, the phone stays in monochrome except for a few apps. HM and websites feel more like newspapers. Simpler in a cognitively relaxing way.

Should have stressed that it was sarcasm!
deusum··on America has a monopoly problem
Honestly, I searched for the definition expecting to disagree. I posted it when I realized parent was right, and figured I'm not the only person who hasn't studied feudalism in a while.
deusum··on America has a monopoly problem
feudalism

n.

A political and economic system of Europe from the 9th to about the 15th century, based on the holding of all land in fief or fee and the resulting relation of lord to vassal and characterized by homage, legal and military service of tenants, and forfeiture.

Exchange 8 for the X and TMo refurbs and resells, perhaps.
deusum··on Is spam email still a big deal
I got locked out of a Yahoo account years ago that I used solely as a spam account for signups. It was getting hundreds a day and I just looked for that one email confirmation as necessary. Sometimes I wonder if it's still active. It might have a million emails waiting (were Yahoo to allow unlimited messages).
deusum··on Linux on Samsung Galaxy smartphones
I spy a Virtual Box, no? The kernel looks too new for Android, as well.

I'm guessing users here don't want the emu penalty, just extend what's already there a bit.

deusum··on Intel Delivers 17-Qubit Superconducting Chip
I found this video on quantum mechanics helpful.

If you measure the qubit prematurely the function collapses. In classical computing it might be analogous to breaking out of a for loop before it has run its intended course and then you're left with an incorrect (or incomplete) answer.

deusum··on Intel Delivers 17-Qubit Superconducting Chip
Over at the Wikipedia it's reported that the latest D-Wave products have 2048 qubits. So, I would hope that announcing a processor with only 17 means a fundamental shift.

Of course, it could be marketing running away with it.

deusum··on Corporate Gibberish Generator (2004)
I'm reminded of Hemmingway,

"Poor Faulkner. Does he really think big emotions come from big words?"

Didn't get any of that in Firefox Focus

deusum··on South Korea’s dystopian nightmare
What's comical is your weak argument. You're equating basic income to an authoritarian state.
deusum··on Are We Experimenting on Our Children with Soy Formula?
It's less common knowledge that this is a myth.
