derekja··on Evidence of a nocebo response following a nationwide antidepressant drug switch
only slightly beyond that, 23andme doesn't cover all of the relevant SNPs but it does cover the ones that allow you to infer that you are less likely to respond to p-glycoprotein based drugs like citalopram and paroxetine. You have to export your 23andme raw data and use something like promethease to reprocess the data.
derekja··on Show HN: CodeSpeak, the beginnings of a web-based speech-to-code tool
Big fan of the attempt! It's a tough area, though. A couple links that might be of interest:

Best wishes for a successful project!

derekja··on Cheap and simple medical devices have to overcome deeply rooted biases
Very cool. Love to chat at some point. I run a makerspace in Victoria, BC and we have done some medical device hacking. Derekja at makerspace dot ca
derekja··on Indian technology talent is flocking to Canada
I'm in Victoria. There is a good, but small, tech scene here. Salaries are significantly lower than Vancouver in general, though.
derekja··on Ask HN: Are any of you IEEE members?
I am, but only because the non-member registration fee at a conference at which I was presenting was more than the membership + member registration.
derekja··on How to Hire
Hmm, I'd assumed Skiena https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9781848000698
derekja··on Show HN: The Program – A fictional podcast inspired by Hacker News stories
Listened to all 3. Nice job! Found it very engaging and well-produced, if perhaps slightly overdramatic in places. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
derekja··on Show HN: The Program – A fictional podcast inspired by Hacker News stories

derekja··on Shaper Origin: Hand-Held CNC Machine
We got one for our makerspace and it is a very solid tool. Amazing for parquet.
derekja··on Ask HN: Are there any online trainings worth paying for?
Agree. I have definitely gotten good value out of his stuff.
derekja··on Show HN: RemoteHacker.com – Find a project partner
Yup, that's what would put it on my daily radar.
derekja··on Tinc VPN: Secure Private Network Between Hosts
Ah, excellent! I have only used zerotier with them hosting. Would far prefer to self-host. Thanks for pointing that out!
derekja··on Tinc VPN: Secure Private Network Between Hosts
I also use zerotier. Is there an advantage to Tinc?
derekja··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (January 2018)
Seems like your links are broken, btw. Can find the listings by going to jobs.lever.co/karat/ though.
derekja··on Effective Engineer – Notes
Is a book review a derivative work? The author of the book is in here politely answering questions rather than crying "you copied!" so the nice summary of his ideas must feel ok to him...
derekja··on Ask HN: Any recommended books on developing mental models?
Big book of concepts by Gregory Murphy. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001KW0APW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=...
derekja··on What the elite expect and receive from an Ivy League education
I'm teaching an intro Web Development course at the University level right now. No exams, only projects and homework. All submissions in github, so it's likely some will be looked at!
derekja··on Ask HN: What do you actually use your biohack implants for?
Hi,

My BF is T1D and has an Animas Vibe with the integrated Dexcom G4. I see from an older thread that this is the setup you are using. Can you point me toward any hacking information on this? On the OpenAPS flowchart for the Vibe it merely says to call Animas and advocate for the addition of temp basal commands. If we cannot get him to a full closed loop on this pump, even an open loop system would be an interesting place to start. Thanks for any pointers!

derekja··on Nvidia robot reference platforms
Scanse.io lidar units are out now. I got my Kickstarter unit a few weeks ago, anyway.
derekja··on Choosing The Right Freelancing Niche [audio]
I really wanted to subscribe to this podcast in my RSS reader, it was a nice episode! Unfortunately, I could find no way to download the audio and my usual use of podcasts is to listen during a commute when I have unreliable internet. Without the ability to download it is unlikely I will continue to listen. There's even a link on the 100kfreelancing site that says "download mp3" but it doesn't work and just links again to the streaming web player.
derekja··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2017)
I think it is the first non-holiday weekday of each month that these go out.
derekja··on Matchmaker, find me a grant
Have to do a bit more of the work yourself but the non-profit I run uses https://grantstation.com

That having been said, we haven't yet been too successful with the opportunities we've found on there but it has given us some leads.

derekja··on Show HN: Subreddit classifier using scikit-learn and a high-performance Go proxy
Agree, nice article! Afraid other than your posts making it to front page, I don't see how to keep checking:

-- can't find an RSS feed for your blog -- ioloop.io has a blank homepage -- ioloop.io/blog gives a 404

So where's the best place to keep checking?

Thanks!

derekja··on Researchers reach human parity in conversational speech recognition
Ah, you finally made a hackernews account! Congrats, XD, that's a great milestone you guys hit.
derekja··on Nero’s Rotating Dining Room [video]
Those are pretty neat. A decade or so ago I visited one being built on a 10' wide foundation ring of bearings. The motor to make the living room follow the sun wasn't installed yet so two us pushed this 30' wide flying saucer house around.
derekja··on PRU tips: Understanding the BeagleBone's built-in microcontrollers
Hmm, I wish HN had reddit's remindme bot! Sounds great.
derekja··on Our Handbook is open source: here's why
Nice, thanks for posting that! You all are doing things right.
derekja··on Ask HN: I don't need a big salary, how to avoid being deemed as lower quality?
form a company (not necessarily in Romania), pay yourself the $55k from there and allow the remaining value to accrue in the company. Of course there's a paperwork hit with that as well, but mostly outside Romania.
