der3k··on Donate to the ACLU to fight government spying
In the wake of the recent revelations about the NSA's unprecedented mass surveillance of phone calls, the ACLU filed a lawsuit charging that the program violates Americans' constitutional rights of free speech, association, and privacy.

Help us in our fight to end unconstitutional government spying and all civil liberties violations today.

der3k··on Zynga Shuts Down OMGPOP One Year After Acquiring It For $200M
"We need to take our industry back from the leeches." Hence, my recommendation to create his/her own company as an effort to "take back the industry."

I never mentioned or implied that one would need to be an entrepreneur in order to criticize others in this field. And if you are going to criticize others, do it constructively, which the original OP obviously didn't do. Thanks.

Start your own company then and set an example instead of criticizing others.

Edit: Thanks for all the upvotes/support. To those who see this as legitimate criticism, really? The OP elaborated on nothing - no constructive criticisms were made. Instead, it just sounds like pure anger and naïveté on my end, alluding to all entrepreneurs trying to make it/who have made it as "leeches" and "near-sighted execs" that have "networks of cronies." Stay classy.

der3k··on Ask HN: How do you choose the next place you want to work?
Go with wherever you "feel" is right. In the end, we all die.
der3k··on Why Yahoo Buying Tumblr Is Not Great For NYC's Tech Scene
I actually agree with you. Bloomberg is a tech company, and a very very successful one at that :). I was just pointing out the perception.
der3k··on Why Yahoo Buying Tumblr Is Not Great For NYC's Tech Scene
Cool story? I don't see how that negates my point that 90% of HN don't consider Bloomberg to be a tech company.

Seriously. I feel like sometimes people argue not in regards to the content but actually to be right. They WILL split hairs just to be right.
der3k··on Why Yahoo Buying Tumblr Is Not Great For NYC's Tech Scene
You're obviously correct, but as Michael Arrington not long ago said, "Oh come on, Bloomberg doesn't count." And I feel like 90% of HN would agree w/ that sentiment.

"I don't get your negativity here."

I didn't get the negativity. He was just stating a reasonably deduced thought.

der3k··on Official: Cellphone service shut down in Boston to prevent remote detonations
I do believe public emergency transponders and radios use a different spectrum (independent of the spectrum used by the general public for cell phone calls, etc), but am unsure if that's still the case for making a 911 call. I don't believe it is... Thus, if cell towers are disabled, and hence, your phone doesn't work -> you won't be able to make emergency calls. Someone please correct me as I don't want this to be true.
der3k··on Official: Cellphone service shut down in Boston to prevent remote detonations
What's the legal justification behind doing this? Not surprised that it's done, but am surprised that there's a legal mechanism in place to shut down cell service for an entire major metropolitan city.
