denysonique··on Sony Android TVs waste 25W in standby due to built-in Google Chromecast
A generic plug consumption meter is around $10 on eBay
denysonique··on RavynOS – Finesse of macOS, freedom of FreeBSD
There used to be Infinitaly that somewhat helped with that.

If you find your fonts rendered to thin compared to macOS you may try changing some of the freetype settings, such as:

    FREETYPE_PROPERTIES="truetype:interpreter-version=35 autofitter:no-stem-darkening=0 cff:no-stem-darkining=0"
denysonique··on Sol: Open-source Alfred/Raycast alternative for macOS
It would be nice to see this ported to Linux desktop.
denysonique··on React v18.0
https://packagephobia.com/result?p=react actually shows React 18.0.0 to be larger in size than 17.0.2 (despite the removal of support for IE)
denysonique··on Firefox 98 Release Notes
It is nice that they gave the option to move the address/search bar to the bottom, hower the most important missing feature for me is that ability to increase/decrease font size on any website like in iOS.
denysonique··on UK rejects opening borders to Ukraine refugees
The application is made online, then you book and attend an appointment at a Visa Application Centre in one of the following locations: Budapest, Hungary Chisinau, Moldova Warsaw, Poland Bucharest, Romania Paris, France

Flights in Ukraine have been suspended, you will have to travel through one of these cities anyway.

denysonique··on UK rejects opening borders to Ukraine refugees
There is a visa scheme for these cases, please see my other comment.
denysonique··on UK rejects opening borders to Ukraine refugees
In the light of recent events the UK has recently introduced a Family Scheme Visa for family members of UK resident Ukrainians[0]. For immediate and extended family members.

denysonique··on Melatonin may decrease risk for and aid treatment of Covid-19
What if it is not melatonin itself, but the fact that it helps to get more sleep which generally boosts the immune system and has anti-inflamatory effects.

Sleep length/quality should have been taken into account.

Have scientists rediscovered the importance of sleep?

denysonique··on Thieves Nationwide Are Swiping Catalytic Converters
This is a wordwide problem. Europe has also seen increase in Catalytic Converter theft. This is most likely related to the economic impact of the pandemic.
denysonique··on Micro-front ends in Webpack 5
Does it finally work magically out of the box like Parcel does?
denysonique··on Chinese Money in the U.S. Dries Up as Trade War Drags On
Same in the UK. Thank you eurocrats.
denysonique··on Windows 10 is getting a Microsoft-built Linux kernel
Only a third party application called MacType was able to get Linux/MacOS quality font rendering. Since Windows 10 MacType no longer works as Microsoft changed the underlying font rendering API.
denysonique··on Windows 10 is getting a Microsoft-built Linux kernel
I hope Linux font rendering will also become a Windows feature. Currently Windows font rendering is painful to the eyes on low DPI displays.
denysonique··on Windows 10 is getting a Microsoft-built Linux kernel
2030: Windows is now a fully WinAPI compatible Linux distribution.
denysonique··on Why there’s so little left of the early internet
With the new Terrorist Content Regulation by EU there will be even less left of the internet we currently have today, here is a recent open letter from Vint Cerf, Jimmy Wales, Bruce Schneier, EFF regarding the matter. http://www.politico.eu/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/TCO-letter...
denysonique··on A guide to threads in Node.js

denysonique··on Code is not a foreign language, and high schools shouldn't treat it that way
As long as coding is optional and not compulsory. While attending primary and secondary school I was forced to learn certain subjects, this has resulted in an aversion towards certain subjects, which today I begin to find interesting. However I still have some of that old feeling.
denysonique··on Germany to make it a crime to run a Tor node or website
@ben_w, @chmod775 It is incorrect to say that United Kingdom would be worse off privacy wise after leaving the EU.

The mentioned privacy invasive bill was ruled by the English High Court to be incompatible with the ECHR.

EU membership is unrelated to United Kingdom being party to the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR).

The Council fo Europe is a distinct organisation from the EU.

Please check facts before spreading misinformation.

denysonique··on ESP8266 gets its game on with open source engine
Sadly ESP8266 may become banned in EU https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/03/11/eu_directive_ban_rf...
denysonique··on Why I Write CSS in JavaScript
While Styled Components, Styled JSX or Linaria (which doesn't require a JS runtime for production) are nice solutions, the fact that I can no longer use the colour picker and other tools to live edit CSS from the styles pane in the Elements tab in Chrome Dev Tools, sometimes makes me want to go back to plain CSS to get this functionality back.
denysonique··on Brendan Eich Writes to the US Senate: We Need a GDPR for the United States
I don't want it to end up in annoying dialog boxes and degraded UX on every website like it currently is in Europe.
denysonique··on PyQt5 Tutorial: Create a Python GUI in 2018
For a JavaScript alternative to pyQT I recommend proton-native[1] - a React environment for cross platform native desktop apps.

denysonique··on Apple Will Start Paying Back Taxes to Irish Government Next Month
Higher taxes are always passed on to the consumer, businesses are greedy.
denysonique··on Repair cafés waging war on throwaway culture
There is no such thing as 'throwaway culture' instead there is economics. In developed countries it simply is cheaper for the consumer to purchase a new LCD monitor than simply pay for a skilled engineer's labour which would arrive at the same price in addition to the uncertainty and time this takes.

In less economically developed countries, it is exactly the other way around, electronics are rarely being thrown away, in this case the repair engineer's time is significantly lower than the price of most western electronic products.

denysonique··on Slack outage: Connectivity issues

denysonique··on Amazon paid just £15m in tax on European revenues of £19.5bn
Companies are greedy, taxes are ultimately paid by consumers - should a tax become higher for amazon or any other company, they will immediately raise the prices of their products to compensate the profit losses.
denysonique··on Countdown to timestamp 1,500M

denysonique··on $718K penalty against M.C. Dean for blocking Wi-Fi devices (2015)
I don't really understand why you cannot fully be in control over electromagnetic radiation that occurs solely in your own private property? Logically it doesn't make any sense, unless of course there is leakage of that radiation affecting someone else outside of your private property.

Will we soon be banned from using red light bulbs at home, because their wavelength is illegal?
