dekobon··on Code Complexity Hooks for Agents
This project allows you to create hooks in your coding agents that will get triggered when your complexity numbers exceed a threshold and will prompt for a refactor.
dekobon··on Nginx introduces native support for ACME protocol
I did a google search for the desync problem and found this page: https://my.f5.com/manage/s/article/K30341203

This type of thing is out of my realm of expertise. What information would you want to see about the problem? What would be helpful?

dekobon··on Nginx Unit – Universal web app server
It isn't documented, but if I recall correctly UNIT supports JSON with comments.
dekobon··on Nginx Development Guide
Regarding #1, NGINX has created a project to make ACME integration easier. It is quite new, so I doubt it will replace your use of Caddy, but it is worth consideration.

Proxy WASM appears to be supported thanks to a project from Kong: https://github.com/Kong/ngx_wasm_module

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising.

Data from these numbers is protected by HIPAA and callers can voluntarily be anonymous.
dekobon··on Nginx Modern Reference Architectures
Disclaimer: I am one of the authors of the project.

I do wish that NGINX made LetsEncrypt as easy as to use as Caddy does. We are all big fans of LetsEncrypt and are quite happy to see NGINX donating to the project.

In this project (MARA), LetsEncrypt support is integrated via [Cert Manager](https://cert-manager.io/) for Kubernetes. This is nice because it supports certs from a variety of issuers like AWS, Google, Vault, Cloudflare, etc in addition to Let's Encrypt.

dekobon··on Using Nginx as an Object Storage Gateway
Author of the article and project here...

SeaweedFS and this project have different purposes. This project is intended to show off how to configure NGINX to act as a S3 proxying gateway by using [njs](https://nginx.org/en/docs/njs/). If you look at the github for it, you will see it is just a collection of nginx config and javascript files. This all works will standard open source NGINX. All it does is proxy files like a L7 load balancer, but in this case, it adds AWS v2/v4 headers to the upstream requests.

As for caching, that is totally configurable to whatever you want; the example configuration is set to 1 hour but that is arbitrary. In fact, one of the interesting this is all of the additional functionality that can be enabled because the proxying is being done by NGINX.

Regarding read and write, that can be enabled for AWSv2 signatures, but it is more difficult to do in AWSv4 signatures. I have an idea about how to accomplish it with v4 signatures, but it will take some time to prototype it.

What is "asynchronous write back"?

dekobon··on The LZ4 introduced in PostgreSQL 14 provides faster compression
If you are going to be using PostgreSQL with ZFS, be sure to set:

wal_init_zero = off # zero-fill new WAL files

wal_recycle = off # recycle WAL files

Otherwise, you will see some intermittent performance issues.

dekobon··on Ask HN: How can I help the Coronavirus situation?
Do you have suggestions for:

Deal with your circulatory issues. Hands, feet, nose and ears get shorted first when you have circulatory issues.

dekobon··on Ask HN: How can I help the Coronavirus situation?
I encourage you to write your local politicians to encourage policy changes that would encourage people to self-quarantine or to seek treatment for infectious diseases. I wrote the following to my state senators:

Many people currently are concerned about the corona virus outbreak. I believe that Washington state can take the lead in medical policy decisions that would help to mitigate the effect of the disease on the most vulnerable members of our state.

There are two key legislative gaps that prevent people from seeking proper care for infectious diseases:

1. A lack of legislation protecting peoples’ jobs when taking leave for treatment or diagnosis for an infectious disease.

2. The high potential cost of medical care when seeking treatment or diagnosis for an infectious disease. Although many people have health care in Washington state, many have high deductibles that are so high that they may choose paying their rent over treatment.

I am not a medical professional nor a medical policy expert, but an ordinary citizen of your district and these gaps are frightening. Please help Washington be a national leader in infectious disease policy.

dekobon··on Bus Lane Blocked, He Trained His Computer to Catch Scofflaws
I have a friend who was an armored truck driver. When they build a lightrail/trolley in my city, they put the track on the road near the only "secure" route out of a mall within the city. Technically, they are parking illegally, but the police look the other way and there doesn't seem to be a political or engineering solution. Now, the trolley waits behind the armored trucks twice a day.
dekobon··on Dropbox saved almost $75M over two years by moving out of AWS
Nowadays, you don't need to do that yourself to run a cloud because you have companies like Joyent offering fully managed private clouds at a fraction of the cost of AWS. They will rack and stack, manage the cloud software, provide escape plans so you aren't locked into them as a vendor and provide architectural guidance to your app teams.

DISCLOSURE - I am a Joyent employee.

dekobon··on The Building Blocks of Japanese Cuisine
Well, it is kind of like using the word ketchup to refer to only premium ketchups in some other language. Whenever a person who speaks that language says they enjoy ketchup, you wonder - what are they talking about.

As for artisanal, if there isn't an apprentice program for producing the good, then it probably isn't artisanal. Interestingly, by this definition there are artisanal soy sauces.

dekobon··on The Building Blocks of Japanese Cuisine
> The finest artisanal Japanese soy sauces are becoming known abroad as shoyu.

Good soy sauce is being called the Japanese word for soy sauce - shoyu (which includes good and bad soy sauce)? If this is true, let's not encourage this language to spread. This is too confusing.

dekobon··on Unikernels are unfit for production
I don't think the posting had anything to do with Joyent's strategy in the market, but everything to do with him being goaded on Twitter into writing the article: https://twitter.com/bcantrill/status/690215406317875200
