deepuj··on Instacart has raised another $200M at a $4.2B valuation
Similar experience here. Walmart is also terrible at this. Amazon Fresh/Prime Now is reliable 90% of the time. But I've had them cancel deliveries just 1 hour before scheduled time once. Would never trust any of these services for any important items. Not to mention the ridiculous markup on some items.

deepuj··on Atlassian acquires Trello for $425M
This is depressing. Trello is a beloved software for a lot of people. It's sad that Trello decided to sell off to Atlassian. I can't believe the same company that makes Jira is going to run Trello. SourceTree is the only software that they make that doesn't suck.
deepuj··on Wal-Mart Proves Open Source Is Big Business

Netflix will have a positive effect in countries like India. Their entry will help force ISPs to upgrade their infrastructure and increase average speeds. The benefits will hopefully trickle down to all internet users!

deepuj··on Tsunami alert as Chile hit by powerful earthquake
Signed up, and even an hour later haven't got the confirmation link by email. Not very reassuring for an 'Earthquake Notification Service'.
deepuj··on Jeff Bezos Responds to the Amazon NYT Article
Amazon's attrition rate is among the highest in the industry. So, despite how he makes it sounds in the memo, the news should not have been of much surprise to him.

In a nutshell, he fails to acknowledge that there is a problem, and passes the risk of reporting to employees.

deepuj··on The Internet is running in debug mode (2014)
The more readable and accessible data is, the more "future-proof" it will be. Unless you have a specific requirement for performance, it is never a good idea to sacrifice accessibility. JSON has won the developer community primarily because it is simple, readable and easy to implement.

This is really nice, but wouldn't it be much more performance focused to simply use a gif?

The TCS numbers in the Infographics are wrong by a factor of 10. And how did IBM miss the list?
deepuj··on The Expressive Web – CSS3 and HTML5 features showcased by Adobe
I remembered seeing this a long time ago - and just verified that it's vintage 2011.

India's demographics is extremely skewed. There are some states that have had higher life expectancy and sex ratio than countries like the US. The higher overall numbers can be attributed to the poorer states doing better over time.
