deepfriedchokes··on White House Says Access Is a 'Privilege' in Court Filing Defending Media Ban
Seems like it’s easier to lose our rights than defend them. It shouldn’t be.

The way Trump has exercised power and ignored the law should be a real wake up for everyone. Imagine if we had a competent dictator? We’d be in real trouble.

deepfriedchokes··on The Price of Intelligence Is Falling Rapidly
Strongly agree. Perhaps an economy shouldn’t be organized around money.
deepfriedchokes··on US Revokes Limits on Power Plants' Climate Pollution
If everyone votes, this will be overturned in a couple years.

deepfriedchokes··on Anthropic CEO Says It's Time to Slow AI Model Advances
This is all just more IPO hype. The suits eat this shit up because they don’t use the tech heavily themselves and thus don’t realize the limitations. Reminds me a lot of the Dotcom boom.
deepfriedchokes··on How Poor People Buy Cars
Is this sarcasm? Serious question. At least half of HN is autistic. Anywhere there’s friction there’s a market opportunity. Everyone knows that. So this must be sarcasm.
deepfriedchokes··on The Death of Shame Is Tearing Us Apart
That’s more about power than shame. When people feel powerless imposing on others is one of the only ways they can take a semblance of power back.
deepfriedchokes··on iPhone Duo
This is really nice for people who read books and want to ditch carrying around a mini tablet or e-reader, I just wish it had the camera array of the iPhone Pros.
deepfriedchokes··on US to ban Canadian dairy, alcohol, motor vehicle imports on September 29
> Why are we doing this again?

Because Donald Trump is mentally ill, and it’s time we start talking about it as a Nation.

deepfriedchokes··on Corporate political donations shatter record at $646M so far for US midterms
Any fix needs to start with impeachment and removal by Congress. I’d love to see bribes treated as treason.
deepfriedchokes··on US sanctions Italian hosting provider Autistici Inventati
You know the answer. There’s a reason the state considers antifa a threat.
deepfriedchokes··on US sanctions Italian hosting provider Autistici Inventati
They don’t hate their parents. Their parents defeated fascism but brought some of the war home with them.

Emotional suffering is a memetic disease, an information disease spread by behavior; it makes people sick. The output of one integrated system becomes the input of another, like LLM distillation. Think of a war, or any emotional state, as a packet of information, that spreads like a virus, and infects and modifies the structure of the limbic system, thus transferring the emotional state, the structure of the limbic system, or LLM, from one system to another.

War made the Greatest Generation sick, and because they didn’t get treatment after fighting the sickness of fascism, they brought it home and it made their kids sick. When people are emotionally sick they don’t feel good, and that makes them emotionally inward focused, to the point they don’t have the capacity for much empathy towards others. This makes people appear selfish. It made a whole generation selfish. Because the virus affects the mind, it affects perception of reality and self; people don’t realize they’re sick.

Same thing is happening in Palestine; a group of people who were treated inhumanely are treating another group of people inhumanely. It’s a sickness. An actual sickness.

deepfriedchokes··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
As they say, “power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Perhaps humanity shouldn’t have absolute power over the planet. Perhaps we should check our own power to save ourselves. We’ve done it with government, to insure stability and longevity, why not the planet?
deepfriedchokes··on The Future, Made in China
I think the “end of history” idea was sold to the public in the same way and for the same reasons they were sold trickle down economics.

Totally agree on the racism. I do hope the West doesn’t learn that lesson the hard way.

deepfriedchokes··on GrapheneOS Defends Data-Wiping Function That Blocked US Border Search
If police can lie to the public because free speech then the reverse should also hold true.
deepfriedchokes··on Trump Media to sell instant access to 'market-moving' social posts
“Rules for thee but not for me” is the narcissist’s core value.
deepfriedchokes··on What does privatization of the US Postal Service mean?
Privatizing the USPS would disproportionately harm those who vote for the politicians who are advocating for privatization, which would track.
deepfriedchokes··on Polaroid just dropped the most iconic anti-AI ad of the year
Props to their marketing team. Here we are talking about it just like they wanted.
deepfriedchokes··on ICE Tracks Down Woman to Force Her to Delete Instagram Post
She should sue and get a ruling on this kind of intimidation in order to protect the free speech of others in the future.
deepfriedchokes··on Zuckerberg's war on whistleblowers
What you are describing is Narcissistic Personality Disorder behavior. It is psychological abuse.
deepfriedchokes··on Tacky men with ridiculous glasses want you to wear them too
This stuff is probably inevitable since economics will drive data collection. What we really need is a digital bill of rights to protect everyone. Recording in public without consent also needs to end.
deepfriedchokes··on I design with Claude more than Figma now
It’s some Sun Tzu shit. Create a sense of inevitability such that they win the war for financial capital without any fighting, then hope the tech catches up before Capitalists realize they’ve been fleeced. The Dotcom bubble was the same scam.
deepfriedchokes··on Private equity bought America's essential services
You are correct ESOP was what I was thinking of. Thank you for the correction. Worked great for Bob’s Red Mill I believe. Glad to hear it’s been a success for you and your company.
deepfriedchokes··on Private equity bought America's essential services
We should be encouraging employee stock purchase plans with tax incentives. [0] It’s better for the businesses and better for our communities than PE.

deepfriedchokes··on Tell HN: I'm a PM at a big system of record SaaS. We're cooked
A lot of this AI stuff seems to be about creating a feeling of inevitability along with FOMO among investors who don’t know any better, while hoping the tech catches up to the expectations before everyone realizes it’s not quite there yet. Reminds me a lot of the Dot-Com bubble where everyone could see the potential but the ideas were too early for both the culture and the tech. Unfortunately dark gpus have a much shorter shelf life than dark fiber.
deepfriedchokes··on Steve Bannon Proposes Using ICE in Elections
This is a systems problem, not a human problem. It was inevitable that any weaknesses in the system would eventually be exploited. We should focus on fixing the system so this cannot happen again.
deepfriedchokes··on Data centers in space makes no sense
The most likely outcome is that no one will be punished for anything in the Epstein files.
deepfriedchokes··on Data centers in space makes no sense
Probably this bit on page 4, which parent comment addresses: “More efficient cooling architecture taking advantage of higher ΔT in space.”
