dbuser99··on Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf]
I would imagine these folks are being treated like gods at their companies. And having access to all the money/fame. It is not surprising they see themselves above all
dbuser99··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
It’s hard to give openai the benefit of doubt here
dbuser99··on Zuckerberg says AI agent development going slower than expected
Yea he only runs one of the biggest technology companies in the world.
dbuser99··on Big AI labs are hiring philosophers
I suppose they should. That seems like the right, or at least a related, discipline for some of the questions raised by ai developments. But i cannot help but feel completely unenthusiastic about the idea of the AI labs controlling the narrative around societal impact of AI.
dbuser99··on Today I've made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%
Not sure i would trust coinbase with any cyrpto from now on.
dbuser99··on Scaling PostgreSQL to power 800M ChatGPT users
I don’t get it. This whole thing says single writer does not scale, so we stopped writing as much and removed reads away from it, so it works ok and we decided that’s enough. I guess thats great.
dbuser99··on Fire destroys S. Korean government's cloud storage system, no backups available
Sometimes it is convenient that there are no backups. Just saying…
dbuser99··on The Real Story Behind Sam Altman’s Firing From OpenAI
So sam was getting paid - possibly in egregious amounts while lying to congress?
dbuser99··on Three Observations
AI has to be the solution to everything to justify the kind of investments going into it right now.

Sam’s a savvy businessman so he obviously understands that and goes few steps further. He promises exponential returns and addresses any regulatory and societal concerns. This piece is strategically crafted, not for us, but for investors.

dbuser99··on Why OpenAI's Structure Must Evolve to Advance Our Mission
Don’t think you will become as rich as musk, sam
dbuser99··on Founder Mode
100% agreed. If you read this piece from the lens of a SV executive or VC it makes perfect sense and serves the interests of all parties. Content? Who cares
dbuser99··on New AI Training Technique Is Drastically Faster, Says Google
What are you on about? They publish their research advancing the field. And gemini has caught up with openai and anybody else.
dbuser99··on Ex-OpenAI board member reveals what led to Sam Altman's brief ousting
Financial rewards. Money.

Investors could not take the risk of disturbing the value of their investment.

It is that simple

dbuser99··on OpenAI departures: Why can’t former employees talk?
Man. No wonder openai is nothing without its people
dbuser99··on Why Has Figma Reinvented the Wheel with PostgreSQL?
In this particular case of sharding a postgresql solution, in my opinion, the parent is right. Any major cloud provider would give companies of their scale assistance. This is their bread and butter. The posts likely hide the requirement of stay on aws, but we don’t know they did not talk about that. Likewise cockroach or yugabyte were also available options.
dbuser99··on Sam Altman's knack for dodging bullets with a little help from bigshot friends
That’s wildly inaccurate. Musk regularly displays a much higher level of tech skills compared to most CEOs, with the exception of a few, like maybe Jensen. You may not like musk, but musks way above someone like altman in technical skills
dbuser99··on OpenAI Committed to Buying $51M of AI Chips from a Startup Backed by Sam Altman
OpenAI is nothing without its people!
dbuser99··on We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO
Once again the house (the VCs) wins. I for one don’t trust openAI for one bit after this soap opera
dbuser99··on Sam Altman, OpenAI board open talks to negotiate his possible return
The kind of pressure microsoft is able to exert here is mind blowing. The hero worshipping they were able to cultivate, with so much media pressure, they truly control our lives
dbuser99··on "Et Tu, Ilya?"
They should not have expected the OpenAI staff to follow Ilya after Sams exit. Sam’s policies are a lot more lucrative for the openAI staff. The staff is acting in their own interest as well
dbuser99··on OpenAI board in discussions with Sam Altman to return as CEO
The talent also goes wherever the money is
dbuser99··on OpenAI board in discussions with Sam Altman to return as CEO
Obvious manipulation by microsoft. Its like 1999 again
dbuser99··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
They are obviously a duo that were pushing things together. But we will learn more over time.
dbuser99··on A guide to learning algorithms through LeetCode
Leetcode is not a good indicator of quality code by any means. It's basically a filter. If one can't solve these programming questions, there is a higher chance that they are not good at programming compared to one who can.
dbuser99··on Parallel Commits: A New Atomic Commit Protocol for Distributed Transactions
Would that include transactions for which the reads can query the whole database as opposed to a predetermined set of rows?
dbuser99··on Mark Zuckerberg: The Internet needs new rules. Let’s start in these four areas
Exactly. Facebook strategy is always let's generalize the problem so that our competitors are also affected, this way we can dilute the discussion, change the narrative (and also end up doing nothing concrete).
