dbqpdb··on How Claude marks AI-generated content
I think we need a chain of custody system for content, but that would require browsers, software, websites, operating systems, phones, camera manufacturers, etc to all get on board. But each intermediary or source (optionally) cryptographicaly signs a piece of content that it either generates, edits, or passes along, and the end result at a destination, is that content is either 'trusted' if its cryptographic chain is solid, or un-trusted otherwise.
dbqpdb··on CERN releases report on the feasibility of a possible Future Circular Collider
Can you share the info about these other youtubers, or this subthread?
dbqpdb··on Does anybody know this fractal? (2012)
Another issue is that the conventional usage of the term 'fractal' implies some degree of 'self-similarity' across scale, which is a very nebulous concept and is not at all captured by defining the term with respect to sets and various measures.
dbqpdb··on Ask HN: What's the coolest physical thing you've made?
I've been working on this thing(https://entropyandsons.com/products/fr4xtal) for about 4 years and it's almost done. It's a video synthesizer that uses pixel shaders and complex analysis to make interactive art. My Instagram act (https://instagram.com/entropyandsons) has a bunch of media.
dbqpdb··on The Floppotron 3.0
This should honestly be in an art gallery
dbqpdb··on Are warp drives science now?
General relativity permits changes in the geometry of space time to propagate faster than the speed of light.
dbqpdb··on Harvard astronomer argues that alien vessel paid us a visit
The object was actually in the rest frame of our local patch of the galaxy, so in essence, we came to it via our motion about the center of the galaxy.
dbqpdb··on High doses of ketamine can temporarily switch off the brain, say researchers
So I'm no scientician, but 24mg/kg is like 1.5g for an average human. I'm pretty sure that this would not only turn of a humans brain, it may cause it to burst into flames as well.
dbqpdb··on Ask HN: Are we looking at a recession ahead?
There is a lot more going on here than people getting termporarily sick and permanently dead. The economy is being transformed, in a not good way, in front of our eyes, and its only going to get worse over the next few months. 6.6 million new unemployment claims last week? How many restaurants & small business are going to be able to continue to pay their rent for the next 3+ months with next to no business? How many people are going to have their homes forclosed on them because they dont have a job and dont qualify for unemployment? The economic impact of what's happening right now is staggering, in a way that is not just going to fix itself once people stop being sick.
dbqpdb··on Bloomberg bankrolls a social-media army
I dispute this logic entirely. Yes, he is not beholden to external special interests. But he is worth some 60 billion dollars, owns his own media company, is the single largest donator to the democaratic party(he owns Pelosi's super pac), and is deeply enmeshed in wall street. The guy literally is a special interest himself. You should all be terrified of a potential Bloomberg presidency. Everything coming out about him recently paints a picture of somebody with a lot of the exact same negative personality traits as Trump, but who is deeply competent. This is horrifying.
dbqpdb··on Philosopher Philip Goff answers questions about panpsychism
If you haven't already, I highly suggest you read Permutation City by Greg Egan, these kinds of questions are explored in great depth.
dbqpdb··on DKIM Demystified
It's almost certainly not your problem. DKIM is a cryptographic signature of various parts of the email, which is very commonly broken in all sorts of legitimate ways by mailing lists. This has been a known failing of DKIM & DMARC for quite some time.

However the issue is fixed by the new ARC protocol though, which is supported by most major email providers & in most mailing list software as of like this year. Theoretically, just a matter of time until they update their software & the issue is resolved.

dbqpdb··on “Qutrit” Experiments Are a First in Quantum Teleportation
This is correct, but this also doesn't really capture how significant and incredible of a feat quantum teleportation is. If we have a system in a quantum state A, it is 100% impossible to actually determine A with any precision. The best you can do is say that when you inspect A, you get will get this collection of classical outcomes with these probabilities. The state A itself, while arguably quite real, is fundamentally unknowable. However we can move this state A from particle to particle or system to system, with theoretically absolute fidelity. This is quantum teleportation. It really is quite incredible. This thing that you can't know can be moved around. This is kind of philosophically non-trivial. Theres a pretty solid philosophy of science argument which is basically if you can't actually know something via experiment then what claim does it have to being called real? At first glance this might seem to apply to quantum states, but being able to move them around exactly atomically even though you cant really glance under the hood kind, gives some serious weight to there being something "real" there.
dbqpdb··on Landfill is underrated and recycling overrated
One thing to understand here is just how cheap it is for us to send our recycling/garbage overseas. All of those shipping containers coming over here need to get sent back with something and its not like Vietnam is buying an excess of American goods. So we end up paying next to nothing for this.
dbqpdb··on Twisted graphene has become the big thing in physics
It seems to have a very real potential to help us learn a great deal about superconductivity.
