dbdjfjrjvebd··on Show HN: Visual Studio Code for Chromebooks and Raspberry Pi
Crouton changes this. Modern Chromebooks with Intel chips make a very reasonable dev environment.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Don’t Get Clever with Login Forms
Would it not be easier/more legal to scrape them using leaky login forms?
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Don’t Get Clever with Login Forms
And how are such lists constructed?
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Google Docs gets an API for task automation
Hangouts. But chat and the new video solution are a fairly seamless transition. So seemless that I've used the new video call solution for months and not noticed its name yet.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on CCPA Will Hit Dev Teams Harder Than GDPR
OP needs to be not just a lawyer, but your lawyer. I.e. someone who is accountable to you if their advice is wrong.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on What it’s like to pursue a dream for 30 years and fail
Patent trolls market themselves as exactly this.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
Between this and the property tax I can't see the current local government holding onto power.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
I know no one commuting on an electric bike...
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
They are not many bike paths. For example there are non on my commute.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
Temperatures here are rarely under -5 but rarely above 0. The key is that they hover just below zero and the ice stays on the ground.

Ice is very different to snow to cycle on.

dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
Oslo is anything but flat.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
FYI the Danish would spell Copenhagen København.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
Holland is flat and the winters are mild. Try getting a cargo bike up a 200 climb in minus temperatures. It is not something I do every day.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
They just spent millions of kroner on a new underground parking garage for the Parliament...
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
Meanwhile in the real world outside of this PR piece most journeys in Oslo are still by car, the air pollution continues to be terrible and the local government is deeply unpopular. Property prices in the center are lower than around the ring road as people with families are forced to move out of the center.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
The city government is deeply unpopular. Largely because of these changes.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
It comes above ground quite close to the city center. There is plenty of pollution from the motorway by Frognerstrand and the massive road junction by Gamlebyen.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
Virtually no one bikes here in the winter.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
Why would this be downvoted? Is absolutely correct. For example average sub zero temperatures mean that snow eventually turns to ice rather than melting.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
There is snow and ice on the ground continuously for about 6 months of the year. Rain in winter here is rare and when it does happen it is often undercooled i.e. it freezes on contact with the ground. The climate in Amsterdam is not even close to comparable. Cycling on ice is totally different to cycling on a couple of cm of fresh snow.

Oslo has very steep hills. I know people that climb 100's of meters per day during their cycle commute.

So yeah very different.

dbdjfjrjvebd··on If 5G Is So Important, Why Isn’t It Secure?
Didn't the UK prevent SMS encryption when the standard was developed?
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Brexit Deal Fails in Parliament
May is prime minister. Practically this role is similar to president and majority leader combined. Essentially she is finally responsible for everything.

Unfortunately for her there are essentially three groups. (1) Brexit on WTO terms, (2) cancel Brexit and remain, and (3) those that largely support her deal. These groups are more certain what they don't want than what they do want. This means that 2/3 of the MPs oppose this deal. But 2/3 will oppose any option.

dbdjfjrjvebd··on Field notes: London, England (2018)
Can't you buy the half fare card on the spot and then use it?
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Field notes: London, England (2018)
Those 'kerb grips' aren't for traction. They are to help blind people.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on To protect kids, don’t send report cards home on Fridays
I didn't downvote (and wouldn't have). I suspect that you are being downvoted because you are no longer a kid. You are an adult. You do now have agency to make you own decisions. Personally (and I am not a doctor so I could well be totally wrong!) I think it sounds like your lack of drive/ambition could be worth speaking to a doctor about.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Article 13 is almost finished and will change the internet as we know it
Surely the case for English as a working language is now stronger. Previously it could have been seen as unfair to use one member state's language over another...
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Bash 5.0 released
Yep. IPython lets you execute bash.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Is Your Cat 6 Cable a Dog? (2013)
I have costed it. The cable itself is indeed a rounding error. I would suggest getting plastic piping installed with the cable inside and some strings. Then you can pull more cable when need to.
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Mickey Mouse and Batman will soon be public domain
The rest of the western world sees the death penalty as morally wrong and more similar to murder than justice. By their standards you are essentially saying "The government has only murdered a few people recently".
dbdjfjrjvebd··on Gatwick drones pair 'no longer suspects'
> at least if the prisoner himself so chooses

This is the key.
