dbacar··on Evolving OpenAI's Structure
Majority of people on earth don't solve hard, unique, but well-defined problems, do we? I dont expect AGI to to solve one of Hilbert's list of problems (yet). Your definition of AGI is a bit too imposing. Saying that I believe you would get answers from an LLM better than most of the answers you would get from an average human. IMHO the trend is obvious and we will see if it stalls or keeps the pace.
dbacar··on Evolving OpenAI's Structure
It is already here, kinda. I mean look at how it passes the bar exam, solves math olympiad level questions, generates video, art, music. What else are you looking for? It already has penetrated into job market causing significant disruption in programming. We are not seeing flying cars but we are witnessing things even not talked about around campfire. Seriously even 4 years ago, would you think all these would happen?
dbacar··on Redis is open source again
Thanks, maybe this will be exemplary behavior for Elastic and Mongo.

Even the infrastructure switch and testing should take a lot of time, yet the application level tests etc.
dbacar··on All four major web browsers are about to lose 80% of their funding
Billions on a web browser. So many billions. I am trying to grasp that.
dbacar··on MinC Is Not Cygwin
In my observation, cygwin is so slow to be usable.
dbacar··on MinC Is Not Cygwin
yes but you get what you pay for, a real linux environment that you can install any tool. Vmware is kinda problematic as I observe on my windows 11. And I had problems with hyperv . Even for wsl2 i had to do reinstalls till I get it working but now it is pretty cool. It takes around 5-6 seconds for initial vm startup. If you close the terminal the vm shuts down in a couple of minutes. But if you want it always up, I use the tmux trick to make it always stay up.
dbacar··on MinC Is Not Cygwin
Yes it is in a VM but beautifully handled.Your C drive is mounted and slower than a real linux because it is NTFS but works much better than those cygwin, or git bash tools.
dbacar··on MinC Is Not Cygwin
I used Git Bash also but it is kinda slowish, does not act like a true terminal always but it is OK. WSL2 is much better in my opinion, and fast.
dbacar··on Open-source interactive C tutorial in the browser
They host lots of other languages as I see. https://www.learnshell.org/ https://www.learnjavaonline.org/ ...
dbacar··on MinC Is Not Cygwin
With all respect, why would anyone bother to use these tools when you have a full-blown linux distro at your command with WSL/2?
dbacar··on Meaning Machine – Visualize how LLMs break down and simulate meaning
:) kinda works I guess. "ValueError: This app has encountered an error. The original error message is redacted to prevent data leaks. Full error details have been recorded in the logs (if you're on Streamlit Cloud, click on 'Manage app' in the lower right of your app)."
dbacar··on Busy Bar
What a beautifully designed toy.
dbacar··on How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia?
"I encourage you to note assume that every Asian worker is a slave. " The tone of this sentence, I dont know, a bit disturbing.

dbacar··on Gene Hackman has died
It is strange that I thought he was dead long ago and was surprised to know that he was still alive. Sorry to know that now he passed away for real. Great actor. My favorite Lex Luthor.

dbacar··on Microsoft GW-Basic User's Guide and Reference (1989) [pdf]
God how much I time I spent on my computer programming with this in secondary school. Didnt have the any reference book, just some months of a basic computer course and a low level 8088 cpu computer. But i LOVED my time. I plotted polar coordinates, did a basic aswd based drawing program which could save and load pictures, tried some gaming but didnt have the notion of threads so my shoot em bullets would stop the world :)).

Still have the same joy :).

dbacar··on Show HN: I made an ls alternative for my personal use
Categorization and hashes seem to be good ideas, yet you could do all of these with other tools already. You could be knowing the tool 'exa', a similar ls alternative. Just wanted to mention.
