davidkuennen··on Flutter 3.47
Thank you! It's been an excellent experience over the years really. Always easy to ship and always easy to keep up with flutter improvements which have come consistently.
davidkuennen··on Flutter 3.47
Been using it for six years with fairly high success: https://stockevents.app
davidkuennen··on OpenAI reduces Codex Model Context Size from 372k to 272k
I never felt that context size was any issue at all in codex. I don't know how their compaction works, but it just keeps on going as if it has no context limit at all. At least in my experience.
davidkuennen··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026)
From 50 to 5 seconds. The world's fastest and most up to date investment ai. It's powered directly through our database to ground the information and reduce hallucinations. Still in development though.

davidkuennen··on Six Years Perfecting Maps on WatchOS
How do you expect the developers to pay for the service? Map tiles alone are already very expensive and data heavy.
davidkuennen··on IPv6 traffic crosses the 50% mark
Setting up my own server (migrating off GCP LB) taught me so much about networking. I was especially surprised that providing IPv6 is such a performance boost for low bandwidth phones since they mostly only operate on IPv6 by now and IPv4 needs some sort of special roundtrip.
davidkuennen··on Anthropic downgraded cache TTL on March 6th
On slightly off topic note: Codex is absolutely fantastic right now. I'm constantly in awe since switching from Claude a week ago.
davidkuennen··on Employers use your personal data to figure out the lowest salary you'll accept
Write down 10 of your TODOs that generate income. As per natural law, it's likely that 1-2 of those TODOs will have 80% of the impact while the other 8-9 will have almost no impact. Now here comes the interesting part. You propably already know the 8-9 tasks that have almost no impact, but as per another law, those are also the easiest tasks (checking mails and such). On that list the TODO that feels like the biggest hassle and you least want to do will likely have the biggest impact. Sit down and just do it. Now, without delay. That already makes you more productive than 98% of your colleagues.

And just like that we just learned that parasites may have been good for us [1]

https://stockevents.app - You can subscribe to stocks and never miss out on important events again.
davidkuennen··on Novel hollow-core optical fiber transmits data faster with record low loss
This is actually much more important than the volume of data transferred. Having 33% lower latencies across the globe would be huge.
davidkuennen··on I tried every todo app and ended up with a .txt file
I also tried a lot of todo apps and ended up with a sheet of paper :D

An event based investment tracking app that is designed to help you keep track of important events around your investments.

davidkuennen··on OpenAI: Scaling PostgreSQL to the Next Level
They seem to be using physical replication. I'm currently thinking of switching to logical replication to reduce inter region egress cost.

Do you think that's a good idea? There seems to be many improvements to native logical replication since Postgres 17.

davidkuennen··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (April 2025)
Thank you so much! That's very kind of you. Good luck on your journey.

davidkuennen··on [dead]
This is a good take. For some queries you'd spend hours browsing and reading yourself, which in turn would cost probably much more power if you consider my desktop setup with a tower and big monitor as well as my own time and energy.
davidkuennen··on Show HN: I’ve made a cheaper SEO research tool
Thank you! This is great.

Do you happen to know keyword tools that specialize on app store and play store search?

davidkuennen··on Insatiable: A life without eating
I'm amazed Stanley Dudrick didn't win the Nobel Prize for inventing TPN.
davidkuennen··on Schiphol conducts trial with self-driving buses on airside
I was flying to Schiphol on Monday and use that airport as my favorite for long-haul flights, even though I'm from Germany. It's a really nice airport.
davidkuennen··on Ask HN: Alternative to Mint.com?
Account connection services are insanely expensive and you don't want to create all that yourself. That would be even more expensive to maintain. That's why there's services like Plaid. For every user it costs at least 1$ a month per user per connected account. That alone creates a huge amount of ongoing expenses.

That's why we don't offer the ability to connect accounts within our app. Users don't understand or don't want to understand that such a feature alone would easily double the subscription price. Without VC you cannot give users the ability to connect their accounts for free without losing lots of money.

davidkuennen··on Ask HN: How many of you are self employed?
I'm self employed with https://stockevents.app as well as employed as the Head of Product Management for a construction software company.
davidkuennen··on JAL A359 at Tokyo collided with Coast Guard DH8C on runway and burst into flames
It's so impressive that all of them got out alive.

It's also the first hull loss of an A350. Seems to be an amazingly safe plane considering this.

davidkuennen··on Tesla blamed drivers for failures of parts it long knew were defective
Look into the new ID7. I will get mine in a few months and from what I heard so far it's a damn good car. Everyone who tested it was thrilled.
davidkuennen··on Ask HN: What apps have you created for your own use?
Awesome! So happy to hear that.
davidkuennen··on Ask HN: What apps have you created for your own use?

I created it originally for myself. By now it has a few hundred thousand users.

davidkuennen··on Tell HN: Pet Projects vs. OSS Contribution
It doesn't matter. As someone involved in hiring decisions for developers, all we cared about was whether the candidate did something for himself or not. Because if he does, in our experience they're much better developers. Candidates who don't usually only take on the job for the benefits, but don't actually have any interest in the craft.
