davidjhamp··on React-map-gl – React components for Mapbox GL JS
It would be nice if you animated the position changes to avoid the jumpiness.
davidjhamp··on React-map-gl – React components for Mapbox GL JS
Seconded, in our case we haven't yet but its on the roadmap.
davidjhamp··on React-map-gl – React components for Mapbox GL JS
You can get the mapbox-gl map instance by using a ref and then grabbing the mapbox-gl map off of that (but not documented or officially supported).
davidjhamp··on React-map-gl – React components for Mapbox GL JS
Having used this, its not without its issues.

  * Adds a performance penalty over straight Mapbox-GL.
  * No support for animations / flyovers / etc.
  * You have to give width/height in pixels for map size.
  * Can't introspect map to get layer / point data w/o hacks.
The recent ver 3.0 was a big improvement.
davidjhamp··on Google Badwolf: Temporal graph store abstraction layer
The storage abstraction layer is also a shared concept, even down to providing only a free RAM implementation.
davidjhamp··on Zethos – Speed reading tool in 1 kb
I wrote one of these things(bookmarklet) but I never really use it. Reading in this fashion while faster just isn't that enjoyable in my experience.
davidjhamp··on Zethos – Speed reading tool in 1 kb
I made one with those features(except that pause doesn't jump to that word)

davidjhamp··on Zethos – Speed reading tool in 1 kb
I made one too that has key bindings as well: http://www.davidhampgonsalves.com/spritz-like-rsvp-reader-bo...
davidjhamp··on Show HN: A Speed Reading Bookmarklet
Made the same thing yesterday: http://www.davidhampgonsalves.com/spritz-like-rsvp-reader-bo...

HN will probably see a lot of these in the next few days.

Edit: Some users requested keybindings and I found them useful(pause, skip, rewind, etc).

davidjhamp··on Ask HN: why do you get up in the morning
That sounds pretty good but how does she decide whats on her list?
davidjhamp··on David Deutsch On Artificial Intelligence
Not to be nitpick but is it pretty well proven that there are other self-aware animals.
davidjhamp··on The Price We Pay for Cheap Meat
Love this comment. The biased pointing fingers at the biased.
davidjhamp··on An HTML5 app turned native in 10 minutes with PhoneGap Build?
Yup, sorry you are right. I've heard of people using a service like http://www.appstoreuploader.com but I haven't personally.
davidjhamp··on An HTML5 app turned native in 10 minutes with PhoneGap Build?
Iconic looks really nice, and I especially like the component documentation.

When it comes to the overwhelming number of mobile js frameworks its hard to get an idea of speed without running each of the demos individually and comparing. Do you have any rough stats compared to Sencha?

davidjhamp··on An HTML5 app turned native in 10 minutes with PhoneGap Build?
Are we calling phonegap/cordova native now?

Phonegap build is nice if you don't use any prosperity /closed source plugins.

davidjhamp··on Show HN: Smooth & Fluid Animated Heatmap
This is my entry for a local contest(http://www.apps4halifax.ca/) in Halifax NS. Was hoping to get some suggestions for improvements or comments.
davidjhamp··on Show HN: Fully-featured Nil interpreter in less than 1 line of JavaScript
But it is interesting that the title change resulted in it making it to the front page.
davidjhamp··on Finalterm - modern terminal done right
This looks like a cool project but lately I've been really enjoying a Guake terminal(http://guake.org) + fish shell(http://fishshell.com) combo.
davidjhamp··on Show HN: Escape from Bookmark Hell
Really like that the whole thing is a bookmarklet, good choice.
davidjhamp··on What happens when you sit at a desk for 13 years and also exercise
I have a pretty short commute(5km) and live in Halifax but with some good thermal underwear, gloves, jacket I was able to ride all winter except for about 20 days. On 23 mm slicks too but I'm getting something better this winter.

Gear makes a big difference.

davidjhamp··on SideProjectors – Marketplace to buy and sell side projects
I really like the idea of selling/giving away incomplete projects. Seems like this site could easily facilitate that(don't think I saw it mentioned).
davidjhamp··on My last name is correct and your DB validation is stupid
My last name is correct and your DB is down
davidjhamp··on Punchfork shutdown inspires Open Recipes
I felt the same way when I first read about the acquisition/shutdown. Like the idea.

As a replacement I found http://www.yummly.com/ today.

davidjhamp··on .NET and Node.JS – Performance Comparison
Javascript is slower at sorting numbers then .Net!

mind blown

davidjhamp··on The Minimum Viable Kitchen
I think the author needs to try to cook a great meal with a rice cooker before he labels everything that comes out of one as painful.

When it comes to minimal a rice cooker is what I would want. You can steam, pan fry, boil and slow cook. Short of baking and dehydrating(which I'm sure you could figure out) its got you covered.

Saying you 3 knives is minimum seems to be missing the point.

davidjhamp··on Barcode APIs
They do all sound pretty positive, but mostly because I omitted the lower quality API's so its not an exhaustive list. That being said, you are right and I'll go back and fill in the negative parts.
davidjhamp··on Crowd Sourcing Sucked, So I Put Instagram API to Work Instead
I started surfing about a year ago and I initially thought of the crowd sourced conditions app but I realized that people hate giving that info away and that friends form SMS based surf checking networks that serve the same purpose.

I really like this approach and could see it working at popular, touristy spots, clever idea.

davidjhamp··on Show HN: Save notes + bookmarks while browsing
seems like everyone writes one of these(mine is notefeeder.heroku.com). I hope one of them gets popular so that others will stop repeating this cycle.

Looks good though.

davidjhamp··on Scribd says: Beat our programmers at a coding challenge
I think they need to reevaluate how they score a tie, out of 58 games I have 4 losses and 30 wins and the rest are ties, but my percentage of games won is only 50%ish. Seems like a tie shouldn't be put in the same category as a loss.
davidjhamp··on Show HN: shortcutFoo is an effective way to learn shortcuts (Vim, TextMate, etc)
like the idea but I was hoping to be able to use it for eclipse.
