I run a startup and a consulting business in Miami.

My girlfriend has been offered to move to Boston, and I'm not going to hide that I'm afraid at the idea of leaving a place where I built tons of connection in the past 6 years (I moved to Florida from Italy, so I started with 0 connections). I'm afraid that I will have to start from scratch again in Boston, where I don't know a single person.

What are you thoughts about moving a company to Boston? Are people open to accept a new person in the community or is it very closed and elitist (I'm definitely not MIT or Harvard material).

IMHO I think that's a wrong affirmation. They restrict what developer can sell through their platform. Big different. You could then complain about not allowing not approved apps on the device, but it would be like saying that Playstation or Xbox limit your freedom by not allowing Super Mario Kart run on their consoles.

I wish they were also showing the amount of profits generated by the startups. The amount of founding doesn't translate directly in success...

You are looking it from the wrong point of view. NeXT IS really successful. Its technology is the heart of millions of devices, from computers to phones, and even part of the culture of the manufacturing process spill over to Apple. NeXT's team as well, starting from Jobs was the starting point of Apple renaissance.

It would be enough stopping spending trillions of dollars in today's wars.

I wish more hackers would invest their time and energies in this kind of projects. Inspiring.

That would be Apple ;) You can probably use the latest iOS longer (as discussed yesterday) and it also hold a much much better resell value.

While it may not be directly important to the final users (if you don't count security upgrades between versions), it definitely impact the ecosystem. If you need to pick a platform to develop for, you go for the more homogeneous one from a OS point of view. Also enterprises invest more in devices that have a longer support life. They want to buy something that even in 2-3 years is fully supported by the manufacture.

Because using messages you already have access to a lot Siri's understanding. 3rd party access could be very problematic if you consider that Siri would have to understand also several way to say the same things, otherwise it would become just simple keyword recognition.

It would be great to have open access to iMessage, that would probably be cheaper for Apple than release a 3rd party API for Siri.

Apple is investing in helping its oversea partners to build these facilities in exchange of ridiculously low prices and few months of exclusive on all those shiny things they produce. That's how Apple's margin are the double of a device with a similar price (e.g. the tables)

That was the exact opposite reaction of my girlfriend's. She's basically upgrading her iPhone 4 just for Siri. Context, she's tech savvy but she works as a tax accountant.

I can see using it myself as lot as well, especially for reminders and texting while I'm driving.

@brador I think that may work with Siri actually. People try the more conversional stuff in demo because, let's face it, it's more "magical."

I am in a pretty good shape, working out and playing basketball multiple times per week. Still, the few times I tried yoga it literally kicked my ass. I've grown a lot of respect for those old ladies doing it.
