davebryand··on Sting Operations to Expose Celebrity Psychics
"someone struggles to figure out how to make a lightbulb work, then woosh, anyone can test that lightbulbs work."

That's exactly what you can do with remote viewing: test that it works for yourself.

It seems like you're assuming that it is possible to use such powers for base and counter-life purposes like amassing wealth or that anyone that has reached such a subtle level of consciousness would even care about being wealthy.

davebryand··on Sting Operations to Expose Celebrity Psychics
So if every person were able to successfully do this but science can't explain it, what do you call that?
davebryand··on Sting Operations to Expose Celebrity Psychics
(EDIT: When I was going through YC and my startup phase I would have automatically down-voted this post, too. Love you all.)

Skeptics: Of course there are many charlatans out there, but I'd love to understand how you justify dismissal of all non-local consciousness phenomena given that the CIA has been using Remote Viewing for decades and that anyone can learn to do it. Go prove it to yourself that it works and you'll taste the potential of consciousness and non-duality.

davebryand··on Sting Operations to Expose Celebrity Psychics
There IS a way to prove it--at least to yourself: learn Remote Viewing and you'll have direct experience. In the meantime, read about how the CIA has been using this non-local consciousness technology for decades:

The downside is that once you do it successfully, no one is going to believe you, anyway. :)

davebryand··on Death of the private self: how 15 years of Facebook changed the human condition
What I love about this whole wave of social media overdosing is that during the hangover people might "look in the mirror" and try to re-find their private, inner self. I see a reversion from extrinsic focus to intrinsic focus which is going to lead to an explosion of creativity across the world and can give us back our messy, fun internet.
davebryand··on Consciousness as a State of Matter (2015)
Same :)
davebryand··on Consciousness as a State of Matter (2015)
The way that non-dualists (those that see a single consciousness of which our own awareness is an aspect <-- not a great definition) approach this is from the basis that consciousness is primary and the physical manifestations that exist around that flow from consciousness. So, from that perspective, physical rules that govern rocks are actually subordinate to consciousness.

Non-dualism doesn't make any sense to the rational mind, non-dual realization usually arises in someone that has explored the realm of their own personal consciousness very deeply (meditation, contemplation, psychedelics, hypnosis, lucid dreaming, etc).

davebryand··on Bandersnatch Shows You What Depersonalization Disorder Feels Like
Maybe, or maybe we exist within a realm that is more like a video game, where each frame is generated based on the prior state of the game plus the inputs (Thought) from every character in the game? This is what people mean when they say "thoughts are things" or talk about "conscious creation".

Ultimately the topic of Awareness or Consciousness transcends rationality, so the only way to know what the hell I'm talking about is to try and walk the Path yourself. :)

davebryand··on Bandersnatch Shows You What Depersonalization Disorder Feels Like
Yeah, this wasn't a great post. What I intended to convey was that I found it interesting that some of these, at least categorically (time flexibility, detachment from self, and dream-like reality) are central to Awakening. Of course, in Enlightenment, there is conscious control over all of these elements, so that being experiences none of the negative aspects described here.

davebryand··on Bandersnatch Shows You What Depersonalization Disorder Feels Like
This is the state that most of us committing our lives to spiritual practice seek to achieve. All of these overlap with symptoms of Enlightenment, although the enlightened being has conscious control over all internal processes, so they are not only able to feel joy and love, they've reached the source of those emotions.

* Detachment from self, feeling as though one is watching a movie about oneself.

* A sense that one is not in control of one’s thoughts and actions.

* Reality may seem dream-like or unreal.

* Distorted sense of time.

* Perceptual alterations like visual snow, halo around lights.

* Emotional numbness, unable to feel joy or love.

davebryand··on Bandersnatch Shows You What Depersonalization Disorder Feels Like
The bodies of knowledge and practical tools (meditation/breathing/etc) from the great spiritual traditions over many thousands of years come to exactly this conclusion: your consciousness DOES create your reality. "Control" of reality is a different beast, you have to ascend to very high levels to achieve that, but it's 100% possible and happens all around us.
davebryand··on How to Be Successful
I recently discovered, which was difficult as an atheist, a huge body of work on this, under the topics "spirituality" and "philosophy". It makes so much sense now, but we've lost touch with it in our modern society. The idea of "what makes a successful human life" has been the hottest topic of written literature for all of history, it's just that we've lost a little touch it.
davebryand··on How to Be Successful
Yes! I'd say there is a little more to the "answer", but yes!
davebryand··on How to Be Successful
Either that or the people that are actually successful in life are doing something that the people here can't fathom. :)
davebryand··on How to Be Successful
YES, love this!

The only point that I really disagree with is that money can buy freedom. Only enlightenment brings freedom and it can't be bought. Keep up the good work!

davebryand··on How to Be Successful
A more accurate title for this is "How to Be Financially Successful".

I'd love for Sam to write a post called "How to Be a Successful Human" or "How to Live a Successful Life". This more important topic has little-to-nothing to do with financial success.

davebryand··on 'Bitcoin will go to zero': Davos talks up the future of blockchain
So, a meeting of all of the most fiat-currency dependent people in the world produces a message saying that a potential alternative is going to zero. Maybe it will, but BTC is v0.1 crypto-currency and it's death will make way for whatever crypto v1.0 looks like. Unfortunately for the establishment, thoroughly represented at Davos, crypto-currency is here to stay.
davebryand··on A Lifetime of Systems Thinking
Yes, sorry, that was a pretty lazy post :) The most exciting thing about Stage Yellow is that it's the first stage of Tier 2, which means beings at this stage can see that there are levels before it.

More details[1]

What is the essence of the Yellow value system?

Core Values: Systemic, integral, emergent

Paradigm: Synergy “ I am learning.”

World View: The world is a complex, self-organizing, natural system that requires integral solutions.

Life Motto: “I manifest myself, but not at the cost of others.”

Life Theme: Effective action to support the whole.

Life Philosophy:

I am searching for freedom and embrace (integral) space and complexity.

What is the origin of the Yellow value system?

Period: 50 years ago

Geographical Location: The Western World

Founders: Systems thinking and holists such as, for example, Einstein, Bohm, Wilber and Graves.

In reaction to: At a given point, the Green value system may cause frustration because complex problems that humanity is confronted with cannot solely be solved by consensus and a people-focused way of thinking and living. Moreover, the Green group process takes a lot of time and energy, which can be used in more useful ways. The need to take oneself and the world to the next level causes people to break out of the group and to offer their unique contribution to the world in a complete independent and free way. This is done by combining different existing ideas, theories and models and distilling new connections from them. The world is now seen as an integral whole, in which the value of all value systems is acknowledged. However, some values and manifestations are more suitable and appropriate than others. There’s a freedom from fear, from nature, from the boss, and from others, as one simply does what one needs to do. There’s a new consciousness emerging, which sees life just as life, and that life is an integral part of a big and vast universe in which humans just play a small role.

How do you recognize the presence of Yellow?

Yellow is recognized by the large amount of ideas, connections and complexity that it introduces. Yellow’s starting point is an overarching vision about a system (on an individual, group, organizational, national, planetary and/or cosmic level) and then determines what the system needs to grow and blossom. In order to do so, Yellow will pass by personal and purely human-orientated interests. Yellow is also characterized by an enormous drive and focus (Yellow knows exactly in which direction it wants to move). Yellow has the ability to look far into the future and, at the same time, keep things close at home and integrate the past. Yellow often has visionary and revolutionary ideas about the future.

How do you recognize the absence of Yellow?

There is a lack of focus from a broader perspective. There is no overview or vision about the future. The skill to look at a problem from different angles is lacking. People are “afraid” of chaos and turbulence. Energy does not “flow” and structures and processes exist primarily to keep things as they are. There is not a lot of vision and the issues of the day take up all the energy.

What are the general characteristics of the Yellow value system?

* Overarching view of living systems * View life as a chaotic organism in which change is a constant and in which insecurity is an acceptable way of living * Integrative structures and evolutionary streams * The need to develop natural living environments that support human evolution in a step-by-step and phased way * Integration of head, heart and gut feeling * Focused on both process and content * Moves freely in different value systems * Change is a constant: it’s emergent and about long-term thinking * “Acupunctural interventions”; small actions with a big impact * Personal freedom without harming others or nature * Thinks and acts from an inner-directed core

Sayings

* We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them * Imagination is more important than knowledge * There are no facts, only interpretations * Wisdom is knowing what you do not know * Good wine needs no bush * Do right and fear no one * Turn your hand to anything * The darkest hour is before the dawn * If someone strikes gold, everyone will know

davebryand··on Alien Life May Exist on Large Planet 30T Miles from Earth: Researchers
What does water on another have to do with life there? Yes, the form of matter self-animation and replication that evolved on earth requires water, but won't similar evolution on another planet have different dependencies based on the environment of that place?
davebryand··on What I learned at work this year
I don't see why anything should be done. Obesity is your body telling you that you are doing food consumption wrong. If the human that is wearing a large body in life doesn't find the awareness to recognize that they must change their behavior, I don't believe society should try to innovate them a thinner body. Their currently large body is a gift from nature intended to signal that a course correction is needed. This enlarged body (which will usually come back to shape and health through corrected nutrition) is a manifestation of a more fundamental internal issue (mental or emotional). Innovating thin bodies while not addressing the internal issues will only cause more problems for this human and society at large.
davebryand··on What I learned at work this year
"We still need a lot of innovation to solve problems like malaria or obesity, but we are also going to be focusing more on improving the quality of life."

To solve obesity we need the opposite of innovation. Nature has delivered the perfect array of nutrition for the human animal to thrive. We have innovated ourself into obesity and the reversion to the simple truth of natural nutrition is the cure.

“We approach these animals as if they are works of art: would we cut pieces out of the Mona Lisa to study it? No – we’d use the most innovative tools available.
