darthg0d··on Microsoft kills official way to activate Windows 11/10 without internet
This was me after decades of running Windows. I'm now firmly on Debian (13).
darthg0d··on Exercise: Minesweeper in 100 lines of Ruby
Ditto. I did the same with GoLang a couple of years back, but didn't aim for clean/terse code: https://github.com/jedib0t/go-mines
darthg0d··on France is fighting to save your iPhone from an early death
Anecdotal, but I didn't start using iPhones until my 11 Pro, and I haven't had a reason to replace it till now.
darthg0d··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
Do you think all Twitter employees have a say in how Twitter is run?
darthg0d··on Microsoft 365 Outage
All JetBrains products support using a license key instead of using the JetBrains account.
darthg0d··on Google Has My Dead Grandpa’s Data and He Never Used the Internet
I think this article was debunked heavily here: https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/czfml2/google_h...
darthg0d··on Porsche's Taycan EV has pulled in more than 20k deposits
It was the other way for me. Test drove the Cayenne, Macan, GLC43, S, X and a few other vehicles. With the Porsches and Mercs, while the seats were super comfortable, it was like walking into a "button exhibition". And my god the typefaces they used on the Merc and the forced use of a barely working "joystick" instead of a touch-screen was all counter-intuitive.

Of course this was in 2017 and things could've changed now, but with my 2 years in the S, I'm sold on Tesla. Only rule being get a Tesla 1 year after the model is introduced so they iron out all the production issues.

darthg0d··on Tesla announces biggest quarterly loss
I don't think it qualifies as 'long-range'.
darthg0d··on Microsoft Band
I guess even the online purchase is restricted to US. Did not check that. My bad. On the bright side, I'm sure it will be internationally available in a few months.
darthg0d··on Microsoft Band
There is an order online link just below the 'Find Store'. Check it out.
darthg0d··on iCloud cost pegged at $25 per year, all 4 major labels signed
I think the $25 per year is for access to the cloud service. You'll still have to buy your tracks.
darthg0d··on Previewing Windows 8 (Video)
I think there was mention of how easy it will be to install/uninstall apps in the All Things D presentation earlier today. Registry+DLL hell might just die with 7.
darthg0d··on Android Becomes Number One in U.S. Smartphone Market Share
WP7 is under-rated. I've seen more than a few in non-developer hands.
darthg0d··on Steve Jobs' reality distortion takes its toll on truth
This has been happening for quite some time. One of the earnings call last year was more of Android-bashing than a talk about Apple's successes.

EDIT: I believe it was Steve doing the talk back then too.

darthg0d··on RIP Microsoft Zune brand
Other than the unlimited songs which have DRM on it, you get to own 10 songs every month (in MP3).
darthg0d··on Motorola Cliq XT Won’t Get Android 2.1 Upgrade
Agree with you. Someone should step up their game when it comes to updating their older phones.

Apple can do that with the iPhone and Google can do it with their Nexus models probably because they don't release a bazillion different phone models in a year (like HTC/Motorola/etc...).

darthg0d··on Motorola Cliq XT Won’t Get Android 2.1 Upgrade
I get that. But Motorola being incompetent doesn't mean being open is not advantageous - which is what the article seems to imply. Would you blame C++ if someone uses C++ incorrectly?

Take for example CyanogenMod - the guys involved in the project don't get paid by any of the manufacturers, but they are able to build ROMs that can run on a host of devices while providing a consistent stock-Android user experience. How is that for being open.

darthg0d··on Motorola Cliq XT Won’t Get Android 2.1 Upgrade
What does being open have to do with Motorola not updating one of their phones?
darthg0d··on Android Market Web Store just Launched
Had the same problem with all browsers in the morning (Chrome, Opera, IE, Firefox). But it seems to be working now (no certificates/cookies issues). Tried pushing a random app to my phone, and it worked seamlessly.
