darklycan51··on How Git cherry-pick and revert use 3-way merge
Git seems extremely over complicated for no reason, half of the features seem to exist because the system is so easy to mess up.
darklycan51··on Albert Einstein in 1939 composed a message for the people of AD 6939
Einstein has been hugely whitewashed, like for example they claim he wasn't racist because of a black college visit he did where did PR speak, while ignoring the nazi like statements he did in China while talking better but also somewhat subtle racism about Japan.
darklycan51··on Five years after it took on Steam, Epic Games Store is yet to make a profit
This is actually really common, I don't get it really, with Warcraft 3 Reforged they swapped the UI to WEBUI because they didn't know how to use legacy FDF files.

Not only did they get rid of the cool 3d menus made with actually rendered 3d models (mdx) but they swapped them to webms instead (lost a lot of unique animations).

Anyways, the UI loads incredibly slow, it's very laggy, yet if you open it in browser, it is actually fairly smooth, what is going on? nobody can tell.

darklycan51··on Five years after it took on Steam, Epic Games Store is yet to make a profit
I don't understand how such a big company can mess something so simple? like okay you don't have the features but how do you make it seem so laggy?
darklycan51··on Steam Deck OLED
It'd be nice if it was a real console and not a glorified Nintendo games piracy device.

It's very easy to be user friendly when your business model is relying on piracy, they even showed an emulator in a now deleted trailer

darklycan51··on CIA: All Foreign Governments
A lot of people in the gulf countries are temporary migrant workers, actual saudi population is closer to 50/50
darklycan51··on Bing Chat is so hungry for GPUs, Microsoft will rent them from Oracle
Net harm for what? nobody takes away your creative pursuit, you will always be able to do it as a hobby.

Health and other related research getting massive boosts by future more powerful AI is not a "net negative", if you don't wanna live longer or have your family not die of an illness then good for you, not everyone thinks the same

darklycan51··on Nature retracts controversial superconductivity paper by embattled physicist
The problem is when too much fake stuff comes out (example: health/climate) to the point where average people cannot see what is real or not anymore.
darklycan51··on Intel BE200 WiFi 7 cards locked to 14th gen CPU and Z790 chipset
Conspiracy theory but it's pretty funny how CPUs would work for years while GPUs would get (rightfully so) outdated fairly fast.

Now suddenly CPUs do this weird force upgrade with obscure features, and even Microsoft forcing people to upgrade with stuff like TPM that the vast majority do not care about.

Wouldn't surprise me if Windows 12 next year announces that it will only support intel cpus from 12th gen and forward and ryzen 7000 and forward.

It might really be time to migrate to linux on my non work pc

darklycan51··on Regarding Proposed US Restrictions on RISC-V
It's so beyond dumb that they think this in any way is related to national security, this has the potential very literally create some huge troubles for the US in the future...
darklycan51··on Why Cities: Skylines 2 performs poorly
Frost giant is building stormgate, the spiritual successor of starcraft 2, with even better/smoother gameplay than sc2 with Unreal Engine 5, they picked what parts they reused such as the renderer and built the underlying stuff from scratch, but still
darklycan51··on Why Cities: Skylines 2 performs poorly
Stormgate is using Unreal engine just for the graphics and it's doing pretty fine...
darklycan51··on Why Cities: Skylines 2 performs poorly
Why did they make the game in Unity instead of UE5? I assume it's something around the likes of "Staff is more comfortable with Unity", right, so let's release a game that runs like absolute garb. because we want to use a specific engine.

Next time I wanna take out my graphics card from my PC I'm going to use scissors instead of screwdrivers because I'm more comfortable with them.

When did the gaming industry become a place where what people inside the company want matters more than the end user? People love to cry about developers not being responsible for the state the gaming industry is at right now, but I disagree, and this is an example. Had they simply responded with "We cannot do it with Unity" management would have had no choice but to switch to Unreal 5.

darklycan51··on Bayer hit with $332M judgement in Roundup cancer trial
It is fairly funny, I remember how Monsanto used to run paid comments over every big news subreddit you posted stuff about them, then the moment they got acquired suddenly those stopped and Monsanto is evil.

Not saying they aren't but I trust them more now under a German firm than when they were American.

darklycan51··on 11% of the world’s billionaires have held or sought political office
either way it's wrong, the "rich" people often get there through cutthroat practices and then want to keep their fortune via policy making... not much better
darklycan51··on M3 Max Geekbench
basically it's just that they have access to the latest node before anyone else and not much more.
darklycan51··on The false positive rate of AI detectors and its effect on freelance writers
I'm having to start having doubts, recently Riot games had a controversy where one of its artists was caught using AI for art, just like with cheating in pro gaming/sports a lot of people say no but then turn out to really be doing it.
darklycan51··on Windows 11 adds native support for RAR, 7-Zip, Tar and other archive formats
Yes, people use .rar, get over it, an OS should not be designed around what a copyright holder wants, but what people need.
darklycan51··on Razor 1911
Definitely not me but man I remember headbanging to my friends keygen software from Razor1911
darklycan51··on YouTube's Anti-Adblock and uBlock Origin
The real reason why anyone could never compete with Youtube was (lack of) monetization
darklycan51··on Shadow: New browser engine made almost entirely in JavaScript
I thank everyone who uses chrome/chromium derivatives for such a great technology possibly being adopted by every browser as a standard.

Goodbye World wide web, it was nice knowing you.

darklycan51··on Apple backs national right-to-repair bill, offering parts, manuals, and tools
Anyone not naive knows that this is a coordinated plan to stop the full bill from passing, they want to control as much of the narrative as possible.
darklycan51··on Microsoft now thirstily injects a poll when you download Google Chrome
I'll be honest, I don't have a problem with this while Google is and was allowed to insert their own on pages such as Google.com

Everyone and their mothers thinks Google is the default internet, no different than people "forced" to use windows cause they don't know what Linux is.

If so then I have no problem with Edge taking market share away from Chrome.

If you want to criticize this then ban ALL advertisement for web browsers anywhere else it is in the real world, not fair and will just maintain Google's monopoly. And based on the recent years and trends of Google completely destroying the open web, is anyone really pro Chrome domination anymore?

Firefox and other competing smaller player who depend on Google money aren't looking to compete either, it is beyond obvious, so.

darklycan51··on Samsung and other manufacturers disable phones bought on gray markets
Wouldn't bother me if they targeted stolen phones. After all sorry but I don't see how you have a phone to resell unless you are an irresponsible consumer and I am pro shutting those people down.

if you buy a phone and use it till it dies, as we should, your phone shouldn't really be "resellable".

And shutting down stolen phones automatically is good for third world countries where owning anything remotely good means you are a target for criminals.

darklycan51··on Google pulls up the ladder on open internet, pushes unconstitutional regulation
Google has lost all semblance of good faith from me, they are just intent on making the web their ads-infested playground
darklycan51··on Windows 11 Pro's On-by-Default Encryption Slows SSDs Up to 45%
Wow ok this sounds significant, of course up to can mean a lot but even if it is 10/20% it's a lot.
darklycan51··on Google's 21-year deal with Apple is the "heart" of monopoly case, judge says
No... not even remotely
darklycan51··on Google's 21-year deal with Apple is the "heart" of monopoly case, judge says
This I think that yeah FF is losing badly on desktop, but it doesn't help that the majority of people use mobile and Google/Apple have created a duopoly on mobile... it very literally should be an antitrust, and quick before it's too late for any other competing engine to catch up.

I think we'll get to the point where they have had monopoly for so long that their policy making that they get to dictate as a result will be so ingrained inside of the web that it will be non reversible.

darklycan51··on The Oracle Java Platform Extension for Visual Studio Code
"Leave Visual Code crap alone".

Except that the vast majority of new and even old developers moving to VSCode prefer it over janky 20+ year old IDEs.

I like working on multiple ecosystems and not having to re-learn the wheel for each.

darklycan51··on The Oracle Java Platform Extension for Visual Studio Code
same, also interested in a comparison before I switch from the Redhat one
