danyim··on Tech Interview Torture Chamber
This is so painful to read after having recently gone through the gauntlet of Bay Area tech interviews myself. It seems like all the companies follow this exact same pattern of how interviews are conducted and few stray from the standard, not realizing how intimidating the entire process can be for the uninitiated. It's easy to say "the interview process is broken", but how do we fix it?
danyim··on WikiLeaks' files reveal major security breach at the CIA

danyim··on CIA malware and hacking tools
I wonder how many of the exploits/tools released are still usable today.

Also, the actual video press release had to be rescheduled due to their video stream being attacked.[0]

"NOTICE: As Mr. Assange's Perscipe+Facebook video stream links are under attack his video press conference will be rescheduled."

danyim··on A US-born NASA scientist was detained at the border until he unlocked his phone
How does that help? Aren't you passing judgment here?

Considering that they're white and not likely to be profiled like a person of color would, I highly doubt they'd be chosen.
danyim··on Time to Take a Stand
Although not directly related to crime rates in Chicago, 13th by Ava DuVernay is a wonderful documentary on Netflix regarding mass incarceration of minorities as a new means of racial segregation.

What makes you say that about Vice?
danyim··on Ask HN: How to prepare for a Front-end Developer interview?
I'm also in the process of interviewing for a front-end engineer position, so thank you for replying and providing feedback. I'm assuming it has to be written this way because the function being pushed was referencing i, which was within the scope of the closure. Turning it into an IIFE breaks out of that. Thoughts?

  // Assuming pre-ES6
  function iterate(k) {
    var funcs = [];
    for(var i = 0; i < k; i++) {
      (function(num) {
        funcs.push(function() {
          return num;
        });
      })(i);
    }
    return funcs;
  }

  var itTest = iterate(4);
  console.log(itTest[0]()); // 0
  console.log(itTest[1]()); // 1
  console.log(itTest[2]()); // 2
  console.log(itTest[3]()); // 3
danyim··on Ask HN: How to prepare for a Front-end Developer interview?
Would that exercise be the following? I'm not sure I understand what's being tested.

  const f = (k) => {
    const funcs = [];
    for(let i = 0; i < k; i++) {
      funcs.push(() => i);
    }
    return funcs;
  }

  const test = f(4);
  console.log(test[0]()); // 0
  console.log(test[1]()); // 1
  console.log(test[2]()); // 2
  console.log(test[3]()); // 3
danyim··on A beginners guide to thinking in SQL
You can wrap that first part into a INNER JOIN statement or use a CTE like someone else mentioned
danyim··on How “Silicon Valley” Nails Silicon Valley
Both of which have accents, one heavier than the other. Is that fair?
danyim··on How “Silicon Valley” Nails Silicon Valley
Why is this being downvoted? I think it's a valid point. Being an Asian-American in tech, it pains me to see that SV doesn't have an accurate representation (both in number and in stereotypes) of us on the show.
danyim··on Aerodynamic by Daft-Punk in 100 lines of code with Sonic Pi
The only thing that bothers me is that the bass track is off by a note. There's a phrase in there that is supposed to go down the scale, but instead it plays the same note three times. Otherwise, this is truly an amazing recreation of the song.

You should tweet this to Daft Punk and see what they think!

danyim··on Losing it All
I haven't experienced one myself, but much of the inquiries about certain facts (including kjackson's) makes me wonder if there were some artistic liberties taken when writing this heartfelt story.
