danschumann··on Vim Foot Pedal
I remapped pressing jk kj kk jj to escape. As a regular vim user, only sometimes do I actually press i to insert, usually it's cw, a, s, etc.
danschumann··on 75% of the time we spend with our kids in our lifetime will be spent by age 12
"Spend all the evenings you can with the people who raised you 'Cause all the times they will change, it'll all come around" -Lorde
danschumann··on FBI Monitored Aretha Franklin for Years, File Shows
I have seen enough anime to know, they were monitoring her to see if her spiritual powers would keep developing, like a Jedi or something :D
danschumann··on I tricked myself into working out 3 times per week
Excercise IS one of those things that responds to direct pay incentives.
danschumann··on California to ban the sale of new gasoline cars
We need a superhero scientist because I don't think electric cars are a strong enough a replacement in their current manifestation.
danschumann··on Programming breakthroughs we need
The future of programming probably resembles the holodeck on Star Trek, or minecraft redstone.
danschumann··on Preparedness Paradox
Y2k. People act like it was a nothing because we fixed everything, but it wouldn't have been a nothing if we didn't fix everything!
danschumann··on Big changes ahead for Deno
Deno + Coffeescript? I mean it runs Typescript natively, so why not my favorite flavor of javascript, too? https://github.com/jashkenas/coffeescript/issues/5150
danschumann··on Why aren't smart people happier?
To be happy, you must define something as a source of happiness. Smart people might be more nuanced or finnicky about actually making such a determination.
danschumann··on Is it possible for the open source community to collectively run for office?
It would be similar to governance for crypto's. Take the lessons of the open source community, apply them too legal code. Take the successes up crypto governances, and apply them to political seats. I can tell your frustration and skepticism means it must be a good idea! I feel quite good about putting seats in high offices in the hands of those who own the most of a digital token.
danschumann··on Being swamped is normal and not impressive
Being swamped feels bad, and therefore by emotivism standards IS bad, objectively so.
danschumann··on What the Hell Is Up with Dilbert?
You make me feel bad therefore you are bad. That sort of thinking?
danschumann··on What the Hell Is Up with Dilbert?
"But underneath that is profound loneliness – the kind only a genius in a world full of idiots could possibly understand." Are you mind-reading loneliness into Scott(he has never said he's lonely)? Btw the edgy cartoons are the funny ones. Are we not allowed to talk about the new vectors people take advantage of in the new system? That in and of itself seems like a vector(create a problem people aren't allowed to talk about).
danschumann··on We're going to need a lot of solar panels
I mean if we suck it out of the air and put it back in cars, then we close the loop, right? No more externalities?
danschumann··on U.S. public health agencies aren't ‘following the science,’ officials say
Frustration is an emotion which seems to be ever increasing against a monolith that is the internet, where your voice doesn't feel like it matters, because you can't see the reaction of anyone.
danschumann··on Why we're sticking with Ruby on Rails
I still think it's funny that the ruby on rails creator didn't have enough experience for a job in ruby on rails in a jobpost that required a temporally impossible number of years experience.
danschumann··on The danger of license plate readers in post-Roe America
This should fall under a reasonable right to privacy. They should need to get a warrant for a specific crime to search for specific plates, not blanket access to search all and contrive crimes stridently after the fact.
danschumann··on SpaceVim 2.0
Oh wow, I'm a vim user and i have yet to hear about this. It's basically a version of vim with more goodies? Does it run in terminal and gui?
danschumann··on Why is life expectancy in the US lower than in other rich countries? (2020)
Guns, drugs, and rock n roll? Basically Hunter S Thompson effect...
danschumann··on People who are isolated from others do worse on cognitive tests: new research
Processing confusion is a biggie in dealing with the forces of humanity around you and distinguishing a sense of self in the pandemonium. Addressing confusing on a test is also important, to know whether or not you are guessing, and spending more or less time accordingly, even skipping and coming back(because other questions can actually give you the answer, or the mental waypoint for retrieving it).
danschumann··on SMS phishing is way too easy
This is another reason why using password managers is good. I let it auto fill, so if I got redirected to a bad domain, it wouldn't autofill, and I'd double-check the domain.
danschumann··on Facebook says Apple is too powerful – they're right
how is there not a decentralized social network yet? Maybe a similar interface, like the main operating system, and maybe multiple 3rd parties hosts, but something like wordpress for social networks... like if everyone's facebook page were merely hosted on their own server ( or they paid a 3rd party a couple bucks a month ). Then, no more ads, and we get more of the geocities guestbook appeal.
danschumann··on The most satisfying checkbox
I will agree that the change of not having a automatic stream of income, to having a stream of income, is quite a successful, satisfying feeling. I've not yet done enough simulations and calculations on whether or not UBI or what else is best. At least UBI would be more efficiently spent gov dollars than any other program. Every dollar the government spends is probably about as 10% as effective as just giving the money directly to people, but then it creates jobs, culture, etc. Like I said, I dunno what the perfect mix would be, will do some simulations one day to design the perfect societal/governance policies.. or maybe AI will beat me to it. Optimizing for happiness while reducing unhappiness, without scapegoating... what were we talking about? kinda went on a rant there.
danschumann··on The most satisfying checkbox
In theory... the most satisfying checkbox would take your inner most desire, that you've been trying for the longest time... and when you check the box, it completes the desire. Visually it doesn't matter as much as the function. Like checking something off your bucket list is more satisfying than checking something off the grocery list. I don't know if the visual component is as important as what is actually functionally done. "beware the pleasures of the eyes" As I get older, I am more and more skeptical of people trying to influence my emotions.
danschumann··on The state finally letting teens sleep in
The later they start, then the less time they'll have to get in trouble after school. Basically no one gets in trouble BEFORE school, right? Oh wait.. I got suspended once before school. Is there any studies on whether or not people are more likely to get in trouble based on time of day?
danschumann··on Show HN: The Bitcoin Note – Secure, Self-Custodial Bitcoin Wallets in Cash Form
Those printed things are probably still cheaper than the transfer fees are in bitcoin, or did they did those?
danschumann··on Microsoft Purview: Additional classifiers for Communication Compliance (preview)
What is the effect on creative expression and sociability, between co-workers, when they know they're being analyzed by a computer to figure out if they should be fired?
danschumann··on Coffee drinking linked to lower mortality risk, new study finds
So the correlation is like a societal strength test of worthiness?
danschumann··on The Central Social Institution in Prague, Czechoslovakia, 1937
Looks like something out of a Marvel movie.
danschumann··on YouTubeDrive: Store files as YouTube videos
This reminds me of Blame! where humans are living light rats in the belly of the machine. Lol, also reminds me of the geocities days where we created 50 accounts to upload dragon ball z videos.
