Something that I did as a teenager and just tried again is take a sticky note, cut a small square in it and place it on your screen, you can "refind" pictures so it's not all random. Probably obvious to those more knowledgeable than I but nonetheless amusing.
When I worked in at a hometown pizza place (how stereotypical, right?) we were told again, and again, and again by the again, stereotypically 'Old Italian Man Owner' how important 'word of mouth' was to keeping his business alive after he inherited it from his own father. That was around...2015(ish) and...well, communities are aware of the local good spots to go and visitors are left to seek out online reviews when that word of mouth doesn't reach them to make their decisions. Yeah, trolling can happen but you can also get a good opinion of the place if there are negative reviews. I'll follow with another anecdote.
Earlier that same year(2014-ish) I worked at another pizza place that was newer to the (small-ish but not really) city in a prime downtown location; throughout the 3 high schools a lot of the kids found that the owner was a piece of shit - I'll skim past the health code violations and focus on the prime thing he didn't pay his employees and as high school kids, we didn't really know how to be made whole so our option was to bombard the Facebook page, Google and whatever medium that was available to spread the word of the unfair practices of this owner to the town.
So its a double edged sword. I can't imagine the shithole would have chosen to opt-in when the reviews were used to highlight the problems.

My view of TikTok isn't so much that it's purpose is to be used as an threat; but rather a way to create an (insanely) lucrative e-commerce market in the same what it's being used in China. [1]

Do you feel as though you're essentially done with the project or is this something you'd like to see yourself working on in the future? neilk brought up that a startup tried this concept so it would seem that there is - or, rather was a niche in the market for it. But very cool and well done.

This is contextual per family; but absolutely not. There are parents who make it known to their children that they were never wanted so when a child goes no-contact, the onus of cleaning up after them post mortem can be handled by someone else.
Personally, the idea of "fundatory" is lost on me; I am working to perform a function that furthers an end goal and in return collect payment for doing so.
If work wishes to have a weekend event or a no-obligation after work get together, the people who wish to be there will happily show up with those who would rather not be there won't.
Another comment brought up the idea of "no such thing as a free lunch" which essentially waters down the issue to that of "be grateful". You should be able to be self reliant while also able to attend college full time.
But the economic reality often pierces the veil of how unrealistic that scenario actually is when your parents refuse to spend a dime on you or your education.
Well, hey now... Nothing wrong with changing the medium. It should be encouraged! Storytelling shouldn't be constricted to a single format. Imagine how interesting and engaging it would be if school children could interact with a literary world in the classroom.
Specifically I'm reminded of playing user-generated levels in Little Big Planet.
Some of those were especially engaging and told an amazing story and if you followed the creator on Youtube, you could sometimes play an entire storyline when another level was introduced.
The other comments here hit the nail on the head with the article forcing a biased conclusion.
This was certainly not the case as recent as 2015-2017 when I was working in restaurants. Most of my coworkers would complain around tax time that we would owe as much as $2000+. Working both in a corporate restaurant and smaller family operated one at the same time, the staff was made to essentially over report your nightly earnings as we had to pay out 20% to the bartenders, kitchen staff.

(edit: oh my god I think you actually commented on that post! awesome work keeping up with the idea!)
Makes you wonder if this type of transaction is practised by billboard personal injury law firms ("ambulance chasers") across the country. With how common personal injury commercials play on the radio and television it seems there is no shortage of attorneys willing to take a personal injury claim where insurance is quick to pay out.
That would have been so much more interesting of a blog post; I'd love to see a write up that does some investigative work to determine just how much of engagement on instagram is driven by scripts.
> Makes me want to write a short story (I wish I had movie making talents for a short movie) where social media bots keep reposting content and sending heart emojis to each other after the future where Putin's nukes killed us all
I may just post this as written to reddit.com/r/WritingPrompts/ :)
Hah, I have an Amazon Fire TV, not the stick, the actual TV. So...built in ads...huzzah... the UI on the TV has gotten progressively worse.
