This is the second time I've seen this pop up on Hacker News and the second time I've been surprised because it is my last name.

are you French? means quick in French

And "screw" in Italian.

which kind? verb or noun?

Noun.

...in addition to "vine".

Both Italian and French, actually! Family is from NE Italy :)

It just means "screw" or "grape" (the plant) in Italian. The French "vite" would be "veloce/velocemente".
