Worth a black bar on the top of HN.
dannylandau··on How GoodRx Profits from Our Broken Pharmacy Pricing System (2020)
Thanks! Still confused, but just a little less. Seems like the opaque maze linking PBM's, insurance consumers and discount platform like GoodRX keep the real cost for each drug hidden from one or the other, so one doesn't really know how much they are making, and pharmacies are too afraid to lose the PBM network to challenge status quo. Not sure why government allowed this process to last this long, and not just step in, and regulate pricing for each drug.
dannylandau··on How GoodRx Profits from Our Broken Pharmacy Pricing System (2020)
I've read quite a bit about how the PBM model works and GoodRX, and still can't figure out how the system works and why?

From other sources, it appears that pharmacies actually lose money when accepting GoodRX discounts, and yet are unable or unwilling to lower their prices.

Very bizarre!

dannylandau··on Trading halted as U.S. stocks plummet
Yes, agreed -- will not trade. I'll go with Warren Buffet's refrain that trading is for losers.
dannylandau··on Trading halted as U.S. stocks plummet
With zero or negative growth looming both in China and Germany in the coming quarter, it is a safe assumption that this market has much lower to go to reflect those new realities.
dannylandau··on Trading halted as U.S. stocks plummet
Already blow past 7% on downside.
dannylandau··on Robinhood goes down again, during another historic trading day
You are making a fundamental mistake with your assumption that there is a clear distinction between laypeople and experts in the stock-market, there isn't. Money managers, mutual fund managers and hedge funds managers make terrible mistakes and lose money all the time, and are usually the 1st to panic. So, there is no such thing as an "expert" in the stock market.

dannylandau··on How to Invest in Startups
Can you list any of the companies you invested in? I'm very skeptical that start-ups are just sitting around that have this potential would allow any random angel person to invest.

Moreover, the probability of find a $10B+ exit happens only about 5 times per decade (10 years), so the chance that you got into one is very unlikely.

dannylandau··on Asimov’s Empire, Asimov’s Wall
Yap, it sure is, great, easy and entertaining read.
dannylandau··on Asimov’s Empire, Asimov’s Wall
I read his biography about 20 years ago, still one of most entertaining books I've ever read. Don't remember him talking about this stuff, other that his female fans were very rabid. Strangely, was never a fan of his fiction, but the biography is wonderful!

dannylandau··on Cryptoqueen: A woman scammed the world, then vanished
Painful to read, and realize that even minor ICO's can potentially do substantial harm especially when investors come from the African continent where even small sums of money represents their life savings and assets.
dannylandau··on WeWork lays off 2,400 employees
Just one small comment -- instead of investors, it was mostly Masayoshi Son at SoftBank that was pumping capital into WeWork and each round invested pumped up the valuation as well, so never had to face any reality from other investors, but it all came to a head in the prospectus for the IPO.

I think Galloway explains it well in this video -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UdhLWGrtDI

dannylandau··on Fiverr IPO’s at $700M valuation
Also use Fiverr, and you can find quality designers with portfolios from Dribbble and even some developers that are competent. You have to dig deep but the quality is there. The negative attitude in this thread is misplaced. Not sure where it is coming from.

For example, I use an iOS developer that charges me $50/hr on Fiverr, and I'm willing to put him against any Google or Facebook developer for quality and exceeding expectations. Although, I will admit that he is a rare find on Fiverr.

dannylandau··on Freelancer.com stole from me and ruined my life
Exact same issue happened to me as well. It was a Chinese iOS developer. Did an OK job, was planning to give him good reviews anyways, until he gave the condition to leave a 5-star review or no code. Got in touch with his team leader and matter was resolved quickly. Ended up leaving a negative review.

Generally, had very positive experiences with Upwork and other platforms including Freelancer.com which I no longer use anymore.
