danielktdoranie··on How one engineer beat the ban on home computers in socialist Yugoslavia
Came to the comment section for the socialist cope “well actually”
danielktdoranie··on I'm Peter Roberts, immigration attorney who does work for YC and startups. AMA
Employers should have to prove they were not able to find a U.S. citizen who can do the job before they're allowed to hire someone that needs a work permit. Employers purposefully seek out non-U.S. citizens as they know they're happy to work for a lot less, especially if gets them into the U.S. This whole system encourages economic migrants, puts U.S. citizens out of work. As far as In am concerned you're actively working against your fellow Americans helping foreigners abuse and exploit our immigration laws.

I came here looking for this comment and you didn’t disappoint
danielktdoranie··on Generate pip requirements.txt file based on imports of any project
...it would also be nice if Debian (Ubunutu and other derivitives) stop shitting on pip in some ridiculous paranoid attempt to stop breaking apt packages (that don't break apt packages anyway) or because of "muh security".
danielktdoranie··on What, Me Worry? The Art and Humor of Mad Magazine
When I was I preteen in 1980s I loved MAD. I even had a collection, I resisted the urge to fold the back page just to keep them nice and instead folded the back page of a copy in the grocery store
danielktdoranie··on I Designed a Dieter Rams Inspired iPhone Dock
Personally, I don’t use a case on my iPhone 14. I pay Apple every month for Apple Care +. If I break it Apple fixes or replaces it for free
danielktdoranie··on I designed a Dieter Rams-inspired iPhone dock
If these were for sale I would buy one
danielktdoranie··on Hollywood Can't Ditch Its Teslas Fast Enough:"They're Destroying Their Leases.."
Elon’s sacrifice and protection of free speech on the internet has motivated me to support him financially, not only by paying for x.com’s premium+ but I am currently waiting for the CyberTruck to become available in Europe. I admire Elon a lot, not just for purchasing Twitter, not just as business man, but for what he has achieved with SpaceX: successful where long time aeronautical companies like Boeing have failed.
danielktdoranie··on Apple to upgrade base Macs to 16GB RAM, starting from Apple M4 models
My MacBook Air M1 has 16GB RAM and the base 256GB RAM. I decided I wanted to try some native Apple Silicon games like “Resident Evil: The Village” and “Death Stranding”. So I took a 1 TB WD_BLACK external SSD, installed macOS Sonoma and made sure to boot from that hard drive when I wanted to play games. It works perfectly. Sadly there is no way to add RAM externally ha ha.

I boot from the 256GB storage that is soldered on the MacBook Air M1’s logic board when I want to do anything else. I have about 174 GB free currently.

danielktdoranie··on Apple to upgrade base Macs to 16GB RAM, starting from Apple M4 models
As an Apple fan, what Apple charges for RAM is insulting. Pre 2012 it was standard practice to buy your MacBook Pro with the minimum RAM, and you could upgrade the RAM yourself buying from Crucial and the like for WAY CHEAPER than what Apple sold the RAM for. To stop that Apple started soldering the RAM to the logic board. I’d have no problem buying RAM from Apple if they charged a fair market price. Sadly Apple seem hell bent on ripping us off.
danielktdoranie··on Susan Wojcicki has died
Can’t say I will miss her. She was a tyrant who bragged about shutting down free speech and censoring people she did not agree with, the standard communist tactic of controlling language.
danielktdoranie··on KDE Spectacle: Option to omit shadow and transparent border
Good idea!
danielktdoranie··on Elon Musk strikes deal to buy Twitter for $44bn
Hell yeah he did! Freedom of Speech is back on the menu boys!

danielktdoranie··on UK Government Officials Infected with Pegasus
The patch for Pegasus has been out since September 2021.
danielktdoranie··on Ask HN: Why is Substack so popular?
I think the reason Substack is so popular is they value Freedom of Speech and it shows in their actions.
danielktdoranie··on Wikipedia globally blocks Apple Private Relay IP ranges from editing
Clearly Wikipedia doesn't need my annual donation anymore.
danielktdoranie··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
Someone explain to me how this is a "hostile" take over?
danielktdoranie··on Ask HN: Does anyone else question USB-C as an “improvement”?
There are improvements, many, in terms of power and the fact that it can be inserted either way... but dongles and adapters for USB-A devices is a PITA.
danielktdoranie··on Russia opens criminal investigation of Meta over death calls on Facebook
With all this banning of western media, social media and pornography websites looks like Russian citizens may end up being the most well adjusted and happy people on the planet.
danielktdoranie··on Russia opens criminal investigation of Meta over death calls on Facebook
Correct. Ask any kid bullied by classmates in private groups. FWIW one of the best things I ever did was delete my Facebook account.
danielktdoranie··on Russia opens criminal investigation of Meta over death calls on Facebook
Pretty sure Russia took responsibility for the hospital but my understanding is Russia claims their intelligence was 1.) it was no longer a functioning hospital and 2.) used as a base of operations for the fascist Azov Battalion... not that it didn't happen.
danielktdoranie··on Apple turns monitor height adjustment into a $400 upsell
Yeah, Apple's stuff is expensive. This is still alarming to someone? If you're looking for inexpensive, you don't go to Apple. That's not what they do, or have ever done.
danielktdoranie··on Ukraine warns Chernobyl nuclear plant suffered power outage
That's interesting. I thought all of Chernobyl's remaining reactors were shutdown in 2000... why does it matter if it has power or not?
danielktdoranie··on Apple M1 Ultra
Pretty God damn impressive. I have a MacBook Air w/ the M1 and 16GB and it's more computer than I need for my work flows. Work gave me a MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max w/ a 10-Core CPU, 32-Core GPU, 64GB Unified Memory... it is a monster.

Intel's got a lot of work to do to catch up. I think the only way Intel will catch up is to completely embrace RISC-V

danielktdoranie··on Does the EU's ban on RT also ban Tor?
Yes, because the protests on January 6th were literally the worst thing to ever happen in the United States, way worse than 9/11 or the Japanese Bombing of Pearl Harbour. Kamala Harris and Joe Biden told me so. January 6th was WAY WORSE than the riots and arson that took place in multiple cities the previous summer. Those were "mostly peaceful" where as the Boomers on Jan. 6th are terrorists and should be held without trial indefinitely.
danielktdoranie··on Does the EU's ban on RT also ban Tor?
Yes. One man's "propaganda" is another man's news. It's an assault on Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press.

I also note other news networks have been happily spouting anti-Russian propaganda as well (i.e. "Ghost of Kiev", "Miss Ukraine Fighting", and the "Snake Island Martyrs" to name but 3).

I also note none of the Western Media talk about shelling, murder, and rape of the ethnic Russian civilians in the Donbas since 2014. They call it "propaganda" now but 6 years ago these same western media outlets reported that "Fascist Azov Battalion Ukrainian Military were shelling and murdering Donbas "separatists" (now western media calls them terrorists).

News shouldn't have bias, full stop. news should just report the facts and let the viewer/listener decide. However, bar that both sides should have their voices herd in a democracy.

danielktdoranie··on Does the EU's ban on RT also ban Tor?
Yeah this is censorship and at best it's indicative of a "nanny state" and at worse it's Orwellian. In short, it's bullshit.
