danielEM··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra for a big leap in performance and AI compute
There is no magic, if the data you compute as atomic chunk don't fit in cache then memory bandwidth R/W limit kicks in and architecture does not matter. On contrary - having multi gpu setup of same price and same memory size with even slower memories may give you effectively much higher bandwidth but at the cost of power consumption.
danielEM··on AliExpress runs silent WebAudio fingerprinting that breaks Bluetooth multipoint
I'm confused, doesn't access to microphone raise pop up asking for permissions? I'm nearly sure I saw it
danielEM··on Your Pension Depends on Kids You Did Not Have
If system is designed to save for your own pension, and system uses your savings for pensions of others then it is a system that doesn't work, not people looking for 'free ride'.

Also, if you want people to have more kids in rich countries you need to find other formula than just pouring money. And it has to be attractive to people, not forced on them.

danielEM··on Muse Glimmer: 30B-parameter model optimized for always-on local agent workflows
Been investigating these multichannel AMD based platforms last year and seem like none of them can in real scenarios utilize anywhere close to their theoretical bandwidth.
danielEM··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (June 2026)
My little project for today is sort of hardware hacking of Chinese Aubess WiFi switch with power monitor so I can reflash it without desoldering anything. :)
danielEM··on 1-Bit Bonsai Image 4B Image Generation for Local Devices
Is there a way to run it on Vulkan?
danielEM··on Zig: Build System Reworked
Well, I feel you very much about Python! Also was coding in plenty of languages for past 30 years (assembly, pascal, C, D, java, visual basic, typescript, C++, and so on and so for) and every now and then I wonder if that aversion of mine towards indentation based languages (python, nim) comes from lack of enough flexibility of my mind/aversion towards training my brain to use and recognize different coding way or it is simply because it not ergonomic enough once you reach certain skill level.
danielEM··on AI singer now occupies eleven spots on iTunes singles chart
You saying it like there are no other easy ways to launder money. Every time I walk by a cleaning service or hairdresser in a less dense populated area I wonder if they are involved in money launderinng.
danielEM··on Your phone is an entire computer
Why would you allow your phone to be a computer if you can sell a computer AND a phone? Allowing "random" OS to be installed on your phone would mean loosing control over your phone (including spying, gathering statistical data to influence major decisions, ability to paralyze communication of your country etc etc)

Android phones are nothing but linux phones and video output (DP over USB-C, earlier MHL) is for many years already included in many phones. I would love to carry one device with everything on it. I would be very happy if that device was like a laptop with detachable core, that acts as phone.

danielEM··on 10% of Firefox crashes are caused by bitflips
> problems because Dell sourced the absolute cheapest stuff for their computers;

Price itself has nothing to cause problems, it is either bad design or false or incomplete data on datasheets or all of it. Please STOP spreading this narrative, the right thing is to make ads, datasheets, marketing materials etc, etc to tell you the truth that is necessary for you to make proper decision as client/consumer.

danielEM··on Motorola announces a partnership with GrapheneOS
It is finally a time to replace laptops with phones and laptop like docking stations. With hardware prices you'll save on buying twice, keep all your stuff in one device etc. That is what any disrupting company should head for.
danielEM··on Microgpt
Well, I also think that there is a lot that we process 'in background' and learn on beforehand in order to learn how to drive and then drive. I think the most 'fair' would be to figure out absolute lowest age of kids that would allow them to perform well on streets behind steering wheel.
danielEM··on 74% of European firms would fail without access to U.S. technology
Actually social media is relatively easy to replace and as such not as big threat to European economy as other types of service. The biggest threat from social media is manipulation and collection of data that can be used to manipulate.
danielEM··on The state of Schleswig-Holstein is consistently relying on open source
Benefits are bigger than anyone realizes. Even if it would cost same it would still be money that are to circulate further in local economy.
danielEM··on Migrating the main Zig repository from GitHub to Codeberg
Looks like advertisement of codeberg - worked, got my account there

The message itself could be a bit nicer however. I agree with what it says but not with how it is written.

danielEM··on Why is Zig so cool?
@pron If all you mean is there is more syntax to D than to zig to achieve same/similar thing then you may be a bit aggresive on how you communicate it.
danielEM··on VR Headsets Are Better Than Ever and No One Seems to Care
Inconvenient, most of the times freaking expensive or vendor locked, no privacy - these are major reasons why it doesn't work out.

A good VR headset will be most probably a form of wireless screen (not a beafy computer) that is simple, lightweight (at most 200g in front of your face), cheap enough so you'll be able to wear it with you and not worry that something happens to it or be able to afford it for each member of your family without major effort and most of all - it should be replacing computer/laptop screen for daily tasks.

We could do it today, big tech is just holding us back with their vision of products

danielEM··on Intel Arc Pro B50 GPU Launched at $349 for Compact Workstations
Ryzen AI max+ 395 128GB can do 256GBps so lets put all these "ifs" to bed once for all. That is absolutely no brainer to drop more RAM as long as there is enough bits in address space of physical hardware. And there usually is, as same silicons are branded and packaged differently for commercial market and for consumer market. Check up how chinese are doubling 4090s RAM from 24 to 48GB.
danielEM··on Hacking birds to store images;-) [video]
Interesting video about birds and sound
danielEM··on Philips now offers 3D printable replacement parts [video]
That is a bit unexpected from company that produces light bulbs (pun intended ;-) ), but deserves spreading that idea out.
danielEM··on Android phones will soon reboot themselves after sitting unused for three days
Google saying they gonna reboot my phone for my safety - not suspicious at all ;)
danielEM··on JSLinux
100% agree, would like to meet that guy one day
danielEM··on I ditched my laptop for a pocketable mini PC and a pair of AR glasses
Didn't try Quest 3, but biggest disadvantages of quest 2 are:

- half a kilo hanging in front of your face

- working in the summer w/o air conditioning is a nightmare

danielEM··on I ditched my laptop for a pocketable mini PC and a pair of AR glasses
Having nreal air. It is so freaking inconvenient to wear for longer that every time I see someone posting how they replaced regular screen with ar glasses or vr (yes, tried also Quest 2) I laugh HARD!
danielEM··on Ask HN: 2x Arc A770 or 1x Radeon 7900 XTX for llama.cpp
3090 is about twice as expensive as 7900 XTX, so out of my budget at this moment. I'm EU based and my absolute top limit is 1000 USD. 7900XTX cost around that and dual Arc A770 cost about 30% less.
danielEM··on Ask HN: 2x Arc A770 or 1x Radeon 7900 XTX for llama.cpp
I've seen these threads (I've done actually quite some digging before reaching to HN), but my problem is that if I'm to make decision I would want to see how both solution compare directly with exactly same model on most recent drivers. Having results from different models, or results older than 2-3 months is not reliable in this case.
danielEM··on Framework's first desktop is a strange–but unique–mini ITX gaming PC
That is not a framework choice, that is an AMD architecture that doesn't use regular RAM modules as it requires wider data bus
danielEM··on Ukraine not invited to US-Russia peace talks, source tells BBC
We have 2025 and there are out there a people who think that can make decisions for you without even being asked. I smell so much troubles that even best class russian propaganda won't handle. :)
danielEM··on I'm a 17-Year-Old TikTok Junkie. I Need This Ban
:-) It is like you're trying to tell active drug addict with drugs next to her/him - "You can choose not to take them" :-)

If TikTok is addictive on large scale I think it is as good argument as all other arguments and should be taken, as well as all other arguments, into consideration.

danielEM··on Learn Yjs Interactively
Sorry, just did that test - it is 1075, not massive, I would risk saying that may be major issue of this lib.

Here is the code:

let left = 0, right = 1

let rightPrevious = 2

let counter = 0;

while (right > left && right < rightPrevious) {

    rightPrevious = right;

    right /= 2;

    counter++
}

console.log(counter)

Did look very briefly into repo, but didn't find a place where it is handled and don't have time to dig it, but if that issue is true I may help with resolving it. LMK
