daniel71l··on Ask HN: What are the tools to learn that could be useful for a lifetime?
Directly related to computing are the capabilities of asking questions. Why is that? Because the computer, being a tool to solve problems benefits from asking the right questions so you can solve them. Sinte the problem is usually within other peoples mind, you need to be good at extracting this knowledge from them. Hence the need for knowing how to ask.

If you add the issue of emotional barriers, then knowing how to handle difficult questions is even more powerful.

daniel71l··on Why doesn't advice work?
A different perspective. We all have our shadows, of things we believe to be but hurt us . When we need advice its usually about these topics. So the advice conflicts with our beliefs and we cannot act on them . Since these beliefs are hidden (shadows) then we ha e feelings against the advice and we rationalize why its wrong. In the proposed analysis, the answers are rationalizations of the feelings we have.
daniel71l··on Ask HN: How to be a manager? Any good sources for learning how to delegate?
Best source for learning to be a manager I found was manager tools podcast. Learn the trinity and you have the best foundation
daniel71l··on Ask HN: Has anyone been able to transform their personality?
As engineer to engineer... We are distributed on a bell curve, where everyone has different qualities.

One can move on the bell, but only to certain extent in a timeframe.

There are key traits that wont change, but some are flexible

I have changed to be more extrovert and being interested in other people, without changing who i am

I have experience in helping people overcome anxiety in many ways, one of them is people

Feel free to ask for more

daniel71l··on Ask HN: Paid Career Advice Services for people in their mid-20s
Wft sure.... I am engineer that work with other engineers You can laugh as much as you can

But the proof is in the pudding. I do help people

Dont believe?

Id love to talk to you

daniel71l··on Ask HN: Job for someone burnt out on tech?
Maybe you dont want people around you?

There are situations where the job is so demanding emotionally and yo dont want to be there

Lets talk, engineer to engineer

daniel71l··on Ask HN: Paid Career Advice Services for people in their mid-20s
I can help you, to find a way forward I have created a service to help people to overcome limiting beliefs, find their own direction

Eventually finding a road into programming or other technical direction

My email is in my profile, lets talk

daniel71l··on Ask HN: Paid Career Advice Services for people in their mid-20s
I can give you advice and help you overcome many limiting beliefs you have.

I have created a dedicated service to people who want to enter

daniel71l··on Ask HN: How can I stop pulling my hair?
A different take... Pylling the air might be a symptom if compulsive thoughts, makes with action. These thoughts are deep and come to you in situations of being not busy. Maybe the inner thoughts are related to not being connected to your emotions? There is hope, but i suppose we need to talk some more
daniel71l··on Ask HN: Are you facing mental exhaustion? What changes in lifestyle helped you?
Mental or emotional? Mental tiredness happens, but is usually recovered after a night sleep, being related with concentration and complexity handling

Emotional tiredness is much more difficult. It means we have a bad feeling that keeps un down and zaps energy.

The lifestyle change for handling emotional tiredness is diverse

But.. and its big but Sometimes one needs to do emotional work, to find out the reasons why it happens

daniel71l··on Ask HN: How to stop dreaming about working in other fields?
FOMO is an expression of insecurity, that im not good enough here, so there it would be different. But guess what... The same person, you, is still there with the same insecurity. So what happens? FOMO again

See a pattern? Work on the insecurity and the FOMO will cure itself.

There is no avoidance of the emotional work needed

daniel71l··on Ask HN: What should I listen to on a 16 hr roadtrip
Another option... Do not listen to other people Have time for your own thoughts and even get bored

My best ideas came from idling thoughts that made strange connections

Driving is one of the best times to get some idle time

daniel71l··on Feeling Bored Outside of Work
An alternative view... Maybe you are used to having external guidance for activities?

Losing interest in a project is similar to procrastination in the sense of not moving forward through the hard parts

So is there something you get excited and finish ?

If not then i would look on what really motivates you and what makes you feel appreciated

daniel71l··on Ask HN: Have you succesfully stopped being a procrastinator?
Are aware procrastinating is a way if handling emotional issues?

There are many ways its created, but at the end of the day one needs to work on these issues

For example, one of the reasons is to be confronted with the results... That I'm not good enough

You are welcome to email, see my profile

daniel71l··on Ask HN: I'm a DS, and I want to leave tech
As being in similar situation in the past, you are asking questions of meaning..

Why am I here? What is my value as a person?

As you mention, it seems your true calling is sharing your knowledge and teaching

Perhaps taking time to discuss what makes you enjoy will be fruitful

I have more to discuss, you are welcome to be in touch via email (see my profile)

daniel71l··on Ask HN: Has a life coach ever worked for you?
I am a life coach and engineer, working as hardware architect in security.

My personal experience is that coaching works, but you need to know who are you with and what you want to achieve.

As many said, most life coaches are like sport coaches.. go through a formula and use it to all clients. Of course this doesn't really work.

There are a few who see you as you are, with your specific issues and can really provide assistance to have a new perspective.

The main difference between coaches and therapists is the perspective. Therapists look at your past and help you find a solution. Coaches look forward and try to help in creating a different life.

I work using a different method that can help you create a new life, using your past decisions and emotional state.

Should you have more questions, my email is in my profile

daniel71l··on Ask HN: How do I find my “purpose”?
Would you be interested in another opinion?

Purpose is the reason you had your own "hero" story

The unique road you had from your birth till now gave you the strengths and uniqueness to do something you are capable of

I work with engineers to find the balance, and to identify your own calling or purpose

should you be interested, my email is in my profile and we can schedule a 22 min call

daniel71l··on Ask HN: How to Go Back Home
Hi Drifter, I am a coach working with engineers and programmers

I feel you pain of not feeling worth while, you say, you wanted to be a teacher.

would you like to have 30 mins call to see what really bothers you?

the call is free and its not to sell you any service

my email is in my profile

Daniel

daniel71l··on Ask HN: Good salary but no career, what to do?
I'm a coach specializing in engineers, and I've been in your shoes

to feel unappreciated and not being seen (like you say, not being talked to in months)

to feel that I don't make a dent (as you mention a code monkey)

would you like to have 30 mins call and see if I can help you

and from the saying I believe we are in the same country

Daniel

daniel71l··on Ask HN: How to regain focus when you feel overwhelmed?
I am a coach for engineers who have challenges, exactly like this

I know the pain of not sleeping well due to concerns I have felt how this stress zaps away all the vital energy

I would appreciate if you accept to have a 30 mins call, where I can listen to you and look together for a solution

free of charge and geared only to engineers

Daniel

daniel71l··on Get messy when it gets messy
Thanks for your comment:

Since its still ongoing, I cannot be too specific, but I can comment the following: the company is in an identity crisis, where the direction is unsure. meanwhile its a very good place to work, interesting, demanding and stretching my capabilities.

the sad politics are between the group I reside and the sales division, as they are desperate due to the identity crisis.

from my experience there isn't a company without politics, specially when you get closer to the business side.

daniel71l··on Doing a project with my retired father
Actually my father is in great physical shape. he runs, goes to the gym and rides his bike on a daily base.

the reason he wants to do this is to make another lucrative activity.

the question is more about the kind of services that might be lucrative, with one person operating the site.

daniel71l··on Ask HN: The project you're working on already exists. What to do?
Its actually a good thing you have found another site.

It validates your idea and gives you a focal point to differentiate yourself.

How can you be different? what can I do better?

how can I do a more customer centric solution?

how can I market better?

make yourself "not" the other site - how?

daniel71l··on Too much time on their hands?

daniel71l··on Ask HN: When did you last put yourself out of your comfort zone?
I'm now out of my comfort zone, as I'm unemployed. I see it as a beneficial period because it has taught me again how to sell myself and hunt for a job.

regarding your original question, I have written a blog entry:

daniel71l··on Ask HN: Recommend a Wiki that isn't MediaWiki?
I've used TikiWiki for an internal Wiki here in my company.

a small reason can be read here:
