danhardman··on Show HN: Scroll through all 43252003274489856000 Rubik's Cube states
What's the correct way to sort a Rubik's Cube state?
danhardman··on window.showDirectoryPicker opens up a whole new world
I guess, but it seems pretty typical to expect to install a new software or start a new project and require some form of loading/importing content in. It wouldn't exactly destroy the experience or at least the trade-off seems worth it imo
danhardman··on window.showDirectoryPicker opens up a whole new world
A few people have suggested adding a blacklist for dangerous directories or validating directories are empty first.

Why not just make the API create a new directory rather than selecting one? There's still a risk people create a directory in a shared location - but at least they're only risking the new directory then, right?

Can you add a guest mode that doesn't track my progress and add to leaderboard? I'd like to try it out

Home Wifi Mesh System - https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/deco/deco-x55/

Found my WiFi dropping off walking around my house and swapping to using data. Super frustrating but since installing these I've had perfect signal around my house.

on(), off() seems a bit unintuitive in my opinion. I'd opt for something like .watch(), .ignore()
danhardman··on Payment Request API
So currently, users are often redirected to the 3rd party payment service or interact with an embedded form offered by the 3rd party service and the user either has to register/login. Does this mean, in the case of PayPal, users will have to install the PayPal Payment API App on their browsers?
danhardman··on Show HN: Make Medium Readable Again
What're the benefits of removing iFrames over using an adblocker like uBlock? Seems like global iFrame genocide would hurt your user experience more. They're not all ads!
danhardman··on To Protect Voting, Use Open-Source Software
I'd like to reference Tom Scott's video[0] here. There is no need for an electronic voting system, paper ballots work perfectly.

danhardman··on CSS and JS code coverage in Chrome DevTools
Agreed. I often find the extra initial loading time is worth the improved user experience across the rest of the website once the bundles CSS file is cached.

Did the pot you use have holes in the bottom? It looks like you have it just sat on a desk so I'm assuming it's basically just a bucket?

Your moisture problem could just be that you were relying too much on the water evaporating/being absorbed rather than needing to drain out. Gravel at the bottom of a pot with holes in helps water drain really well. Alternatively, without the gravel you could place the pot on a dish, fill the dish and let the water be absorbed from the bottom up.

Is the idea of this to replace adding `console.log("code checkpoint");` in your code for debugging? Sort of a, I know the code managed to get to this point, so the error must be happening here?
danhardman··on CoinTent: A Sustainable Ad-Free Web
I was under the impression that AdBlock Plus started selling whitelist places and that's what user's became outraged over. I may be misremembering though, I only ever scanned post titles
danhardman··on CoinTent: A Sustainable Ad-Free Web
I'd happily display ads on websites that aren't incredibly obnoxious. I think ad-blockers need to have some sort of ad-policy or vetting system in place that when websites conform to them, I as a user get prompted with the option to turn ads on to support the website.

I'd much rather that than essentially have to pay out money to browse online.

danhardman··on Show HN: The pricing of a site generator like Squarespace, but done by hand
Is there something stopping someone paying the $50 for the first month and getting a website designed by you (I'm assuming you design from scratch each time) and then cancelling my subscription and leaving with the design?

Or the less sinister assumption that someone has just created a company for a cool new idea, needs a website and goes to you, then at the end of the month decides they don't want to do the company any more.

Designing a full website takes for more than a few hours, you're putting yourself at quite a bit of risk if there's no tie in. And if there is a tie in, it should be clear from the start

danhardman··on Show HN: Sales for Nerds- a podcast for tech people doing sales and marketing
Just listening to the first episode as this sounds like the perfect thing for me in my current situation. One suggestion would be to work on sound quality, the biggest issue being background noise. Audacity [0] is an open-source software for editing sound. There's even an awesome tutorial on removing ambient sound [1].

danhardman··on Show HN: Find any email address on the web
So you've taken something that only companies with large budgets were able to do, and made it possible for everyone?

Any way I can remove my email from your website in case a website I've signed up to hasn't hidden my email sufficiently?

What robots.txt rules do I add to protect my users in case emails get posted to my site in comments/posts?

danhardman··on Show HN: Find any email address on the web
This seems like an incredibly unethical tool on first glance.
danhardman··on Show HN: Amnesia for Twitter deletes tweets more than N days old
For the initial clean-up, you don't want to be doing it manually, especially if you have lots of tweets to delete because Twitter makes it a really tedious task.

There are online tools that do just this, without the need to download anything, but then you have to trust a 3rd party app.

danhardman··on Show HN: An app for entrepreneurs' Eyes
Bet you didn't do that whilst developing this!
danhardman··on Leaf – Machine Learning for Hackers
Straight off the bat you can split machine learning algorithms into whether or not you need to be able to see how a decision has been made. For example, Neural Networks are probably really good at diagnosing patients, however due to them being blackbox, they require a great deal of trust (in real life). Whereas decision trees could show the path taken to make a disagnosis.
danhardman··on Show HN: I made a note-taking and mind-mapping hybrid
It's a shame this has come out now, I'm preparing for university exams next week and this would have been perfect! I'm sure getting feedback from a student's viewpoint would be good for this project. Looks awesome!
danhardman··on Show HN: My chrome extension to make old webpages look good
Shouldn't this be called "Bootstrap Me"? The beautifying is simply just inserting bootstap.css into the current tab. Cool idea, don't think it needs jQuery though and popup.css can be stripped down massively.
danhardman··on Show HN: Codeposters – making code into art
I really like this idea of the Apollo collection, but I'm a bit disappointed that I can't see any of the code in any of the images. The close up of the comments is okay, but I would like clarification that there's real code there.

Can you please change this? A minimum length should be all that's required.

danhardman··on Show HN: A basic websocket chat server on RaspberryPi at my home
A new chat server that isn't vulnerable to XSS; the internet is learning.

Edit - Who killed it?

danhardman··on Facebook is down
This is going to have such a bad knock-on effect on all apps that rely on the Facebook Graph API. I mean, I can't even use Tinder right now!
danhardman··on Useful Python Libraries for Startups
Does anyone have any non-python alternatives to these libraries? A lot of them seem very useful to me, but I rarely work in Python.
