danfitch··on Traffic Bait Doesn’t Bring Ad Clicks
Use Googles AdWords Keyword Tool enable the estimated CPC column. Take the keyword "mortgage rates" the CPC (Cost Per Click) on similar searches is around $30. Which most search terms are around $1,2,or 3. So even if a few people interacted with the ads you are getting alot more in return for ads being displayed. Now put Lindsay Lohan as the topic. You maybe break $1. I wonder why those articles perform better.

I work for the company that delivers ads to travelers before they travel, below your printed boarding pass. And ads that work well are ones that are contextually relavent to actions they are about to take or might take while on their travels. But the CPM is much higher than just random search terms, but it takes that guess work out of what internet ad servers are trying to do. We know exactly what the person is doing and can deliver ads to them based on where they are going, coming from and such. Most people searching for mortgage rates are not interested in the history of mortgage rates they are interested in the current rate and how they can perform the next action of refinancing, which means a big payout to the lender.

Yes
danfitch··on How to Break the Trust of Your customers in Just One Day - Lessons Learned
There is nothing wrong with a company charging for their services. They have to make money somehow. If you are going to make a large change like this set it up with information tell customers give them lead time, and let them easily make the choice. Bottom line if you have a product that is worth it, charge for it.
danfitch··on Lets make November "Launch an App Month", who's with me?
Looks great I think it will be just enough to get people started with selling online.
danfitch··on Ask HN: Anyone making a living from just 1 app?
Stick Golf rocks. I love it and my 4 year old also likes to think he is playing it. How do you make money on it though? I don't think I have ever seen any ads. EDIT(I must have downloaded when it was free? It you ever do a version update I will be buying it for sure.)
danfitch··on Ask HN: Side Projects Gone Big
I like the christian treatment center ads that run on the side.
danfitch··on You Can't Innovate Like Apple
If this is true then how did ping and the new iTunes icon make it past the 10-3-1. I am joking but not everything is perfect. Just not sure how those two slipped through.
danfitch··on Verizon agrees to refund customers $90 million for wrongful data charges
$2 to $6. Wow I am taking that paycheck to the bank! Everytime I got one ofthose charges I would call and get it removed.
danfitch··on JQuery Webcam Plugin - Communicate with a webcam directly from JS
I like this alot but the technology is still not there to be able to stream video and audio without flash. I wrote the site http://www.squarechat.com and try to use as much javascript as I can and only flash where it is necessary but I would love to be able to ditch flash and have video and audio streaming support.
danfitch··on AppleTV Runs iOS, Already Jailbroken
I bet they want to have almost anything that is possible on the AppleTV be possible on the iPad, but not the other way around.
danfitch··on If you put your hand in the Large Hadron Collider...
Peta would be all over that.
danfitch··on Faster Webpages with Cookieless Domains (With Keynote Testing)
Something interesting to do is see the source for google.com, msn.com

Compressed really well and built for speed. Then view the source at yahoo.com

Links to look at for performance. yslow http://developer.yahoo.com/yslow/

danfitch··on Ask HN: Check out our web app, AgileTask
Make more of the text for the image on the landing page visible. You have one shot to show people what your product does.
danfitch··on Visual R

danfitch··on HTML5 video chat implemented in Webkit GTK
I would like to use it for http://www.squarechat.com I use flash right now and it just doesn't feel right. It would be great to have support for this across other browsers too.
danfitch··on Ask HN: Contract/Consulting Gigs (September 2010)?

danfitch··on PS3 finally moddable via USB dongle
Now I wait for XBMC for PS3 how ironic.
danfitch··on Why Free Plans Don’t Work
For the launch of my next site I am going to do a limited number of free accounts a day(starting at different times in the day). Then you won't get overrun with free users, but allow people to give you their email to let them know when more free accounts are available. Not sure if this will help but worth a shot. Might force people to try it paid if they don't want to wait.
danfitch··on Rapportive (YC S10) Raises Over $1 Million From Gmail Creator & Others
Yes they do it but I just question how viable a company is that relies on blocking ads to display their data.
danfitch··on Rapportive (YC S10) Raises Over $1 Million From Gmail Creator & Others
Is that legal to replace the ads? I would think it is against the TOS of the site.
danfitch··on Ask HN: Programmers vs. Developers vs. Engineers
I work for a company who calls the guy managing the exchange server a Software Engineer(Which I think is odd). These terms are thrown around alot today without knowing what or who they are. I think people say 'oh they are in technology they must be a Programmers, Developers, Engineers but they really don't know what they are talking about.

My degree is in Computer Engineering and I work as a Software Engineer(Which is what I call myself). I used to work for Raytheon a large defense contractor, which called everyone an Engineer, didn't matter if they had a Computer Science degree, Computer Engineering Degree, or used to be a school teacher who taught them self how to code. I would like a clear definition but like someone else said that this is such a new area that the boundaries can be very low for what it takes to enter the field.

I don't feel like you should limit calling someone an Engineer or Programmer or Developer based on degrees(Because I think the whole education system is flawed) but I would like to see some consolidation.

danfitch··on Twilio Open Sources Stashboard, the Status Dashboard
Looks great simple is good! Might use it for a few things I have.
danfitch··on Twilio Open Sources Stashboard, the Status Dashboard
I like the idea of a dashboard but most of the time they are really only useful when they are custom dashboards displaying what is relevant to your project. But great work getting something out that is simple.
danfitch··on Client side javascript fast compression library using LZJB algorithm.
Interesting but I have yet to think of a way that I could use this.
danfitch··on Ask HN: Poll: Help me name my startup.
Book.io and books.io will be available in less than a month based on what nic.io says.
danfitch··on Google Wave Now Open to Everyone
Totally unrelated... Where can I sell the domain name wave.io .... Thoughts?
danfitch··on Rackspace Hits 100,000 Customers, 80 Percent Are Cloud Customers
Servers remain up the entire time we just have less cost from dedicated machines that were being wasted. They were more power than needed and we consolidated the architecture, and their cloud servers are much less expensive.
danfitch··on Pit of despair
I guess I was making an unintentional point, but mainly I was trying to ask others their opinions. I don't play alot of online games or use facebook but my wife and others around me are always online and they are taking up alot of the time that they could be actually socializing by looking at pictures on facebook of someone who they went to high school with that they haven't talked to in 10 years, and even then they weren't friends.
danfitch··on Pit of despair
Wow, I was just asking a question not making a point. I think that it is fair to do that.
danfitch··on Pit of despair
So is the internet a new age "pit of despair"? Is there enough social interaction for children these days or do they replace it with WOW and other "almost" social situations?
