They use bitcoin "mixers" and harder to trace coins like Monero/zcash etc.
danaos··on We have reached the "severed fingers and abductions" stage of crypto revolution
I went from early bitcoin adopter to early bitcoin skeptic and despite missing most of the gains I have no regrets. During the early days the crypto space was concentrated to small online communities. People were mostly interested about the technology and the talk of price was limited, in the context "mass adoption". Nowadays it's about the price and the memes. Add to that the money laundering, energy waste and these abductions. Too many smart people work on these pointless projects instead of useful tech that benefits society.

Interesting as I'm considering buying a scope. Does this still give the most bang for your buck in 2023? Many online commenters mention the Siglent SDS1104X-E as a more modern alternative.

danaos··on An Update on USDC and Silicon Valley Bank
You have a point. If I remember correctly this event is related to the SegWit drama. Circle was not among the biggest supporters of the upgrade.
danaos··on An Update on USDC and Silicon Valley Bank
I have always kept away from circle after they were caught manipulating reviews.

On top of that Octave is not 100% MATLAB compatible, especially if are into more complex projects with toolboxes. I wasted tons of time try to do a college assignment in Octave before turning to MATLAB.

Probably just a reference of Greek mythology. You chop one head, two grow. An analogue of spawning multiple domains a site is taken down.

danaos··on FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried to be released on $250M bail
Tangenially related: There's an ongoing scandal in the EU dubbed Qatargate[1]. It appears Qatar bribed EU politicians to buy influence. Starring MEP Eva Kaili, vice-president of the EU parliament. A journalist noted her suspicious involvement in the crypto space in the past [2 (article in Greek)].

Quote:

> In 2018, during a meeting at the Delphi Economic Forum, I asked the MEP how we could explain the complex blockchain technology and explain its potential, so that the ordinary citizen and small and medium-sized enterprises - as she claimed - can benefit from decentralised financing.

> "People don't necessarily need to understand them", Eva Kaili had replied with a smile, after a sharp pause and a brief elaboration. "Cryptocurrencies are a bit like weather - you can enjoy their benefits without knowing in detail the process behind them."

Well. I feel that we are barely scratching the surface with "Qatargate". I'm so glad to have exited crypto years ago. The space is filled with get-rich-quick people, apparently they don't even understand how blockchain works.

danaos··on Former Coinbase PM charged in cryptocurrency insider trading tipping scheme
That is barely scratching the surface. I remember reports on reddit of people buying newly listed crypto assets in advance. That was in ~2016 and they didn't even try to hide.

Thank you! I will probably follow suit with my GP. It's always good to find people suffering from the same condition. Helps with managing your psychological issues.

danaos··on Insider Trading at Coinbase
This is not new at all. I recall reading a post on reddit describing insider trading at coinbase years ago. That was back in 2016 when they added ETH. Apparently someone knew they would list ETH, days before it happened.I couldn't find the post, but this came to my attention: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-42425857

It typically takes more than 20 hours on my dual core laptop. It's a pain, but once compiled I get the best of both worlds: fast as chrome, privacy friendly as firefox.

EDIT: Looks like popularity is on the rise [1]. Hopefully it will make it into the community repository.
