dan_blanchard··on Astronaut Selection
The thought of going to space is certainly enticing, but since I don't like turbulent flights or rollercoasters, this is probably not for me.
dan_blanchard··on The problem of sleeping without sleeping
Thanks for posting that. It's way more informative that this scanned book passage.
dan_blanchard··on Writing the Prince symbol in Unicode (2013)
You don't need a special font installed. It works fine in Chrome on OS X without anything extra installed.
dan_blanchard··on Patent US5443036 – Method of exercising a cat
But I thought prior art doesn't matter anymore? In 2013 the US patent system changed from first-to-invest to first-to-file.
dan_blanchard··on PyJS: write your JavaScript-powered web applications entirely in Python
That update was just a README update. Most of the files in the repo haven't been touched in over 2 years and they haven't done a release since 2012.
dan_blanchard··on Screeps – An MMO strategy open world game for programmers
This is a cool idea, but I can't imagine why you'd want to login via GitHub. They get read/write access to all your public and private repos.
dan_blanchard··on Toki Pona: a human language with 120 words
The title of the article should really say "Toki Pona: An artificial human language with 120 words."

Something like this would be way too inefficient to actually be used by people.

dan_blanchard··on Four-day work week – Lessons learned
"All of them are your past decisions you need to live with and all of them require attention."

Wow, this guy's wife must love being though of as a "past decision [he] need[s] to live with." Maybe it's just me, but that strongly implies "past decision you would not make again."

dan_blanchard··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2015)
Already have a job I love, so I'm not interested, but I was surprised to see that you guys are in the building right next to where I work remotely from (Princeton Overlook). Nice to know there are other Python machine learning people close by.
dan_blanchard··on GitHub Enterprise 2.0
Yeah, and the worst part is that GitHub doesn't even offer the same suite of services you get with the Atlassian ecosystem. It'd be one thing if it were a bit more expensive, but also included CI and a more full-fledged CMS like Confluence.

That said, ff they dropped the price, my team would switch in a heartbeat, because we use GitHub and Travis-CI for all our open source stuff.

dan_blanchard··on Show HN: SKLL, a utility to run scikit-learn experiments without writing code
I gave a talk on the subject last year at PyData NYC: http://vimeo.com/79511496

Hopefully I can give an updated one covering the upcoming 1.0 release at this year's.

Also, SciKit-Learn Laboratory (SKLL) was recently featured in the new O'Reilly book, Data Science at the Command Line, by Jeroen Janssens.

dan_blanchard··on Pyleus: An Open-source Framework for Building Storm Topologies in Pure Python
Thanks for the plug!
